April 17, 200818 yr Hi,I have a problem when taxing on big airports (for example LIRF,LEMD,LFCG) with busy AI traffic on the ground. The fact is thatRC gives me a 'taxi to the ramp' or 'taxi to the holding position (hold short)' clearence but it doesn tell me what taxiways to take. So, I must decide myself which taxiways to take and it happens a lot of times that an AI aircraft turns straight towards me, sometimes the AI aircraft stops in front of me, sometimes the AI aircraft simply runs into me - crash !Who, RC4 or the FS AI engine', controls the ground movements of AI airctrafts ? Is there any way how to detect which taxiway an AI aircraft will take ? Are there any general rules for taxing on big airports with two or more paralel taxiways ?When RC4 instructs me to follow a certain AI aircraft there is no problem, but in most cases there is no aircraft to follow.Any ideas how to avoid such conflict situations with AI aircrafts on the ground ?Thanks,Hugo
April 17, 200818 yr RC does not provide taxi route instructions.RC does not provide crash protection while you are on the ground in this version. FS should provide that.RC ground assigns first priority to runways AI are using. Some airports have numerous parallels dedicated to take-off only and landing only. Once RC ground supplies a runway direction, you can request perhaps a nearer runway to your gate in the same general direction. You can get an idea of active runways from the ATIS function. Occasionally an AI arrives using a different runway and RC might change your runway assignment when contacting ground. For departure (and arrival) I obtain airport diagrams so I can choose an appropriate taxi path to the assigned runway or gate. After you have received your taxi clearance from ground, either departure or arrival, the straight line heading and distance to the runway for departure or your preflight chosen gate is shown in the RC window. With a chart in view plus this general direction/distance information you should be able to follow. You can also use the freeware AFCAD to print out an airport diagram but while in small congested print in will ID gates (on request) it will not globally label taxiways. Some of our beta testers have a dual monitor setup and use applications that show a diagramatic overhead view of the airport with your aircraft and AI locations so you can be aware of impending conflicts. This link to a website provides links to sources of airport data:http://www.bruceair.com/aviation_resources...ion_Charts_DataFor most of European diagrams I use:http://vateud.org/default.php?section=1⊂=0Go to the country of your choice, select the homepage of the chapter, and then you will usually find a pilot resource area containing charts. Here are some free locations to get you started.Italy - http://www.vatita.net/?dir=download&pagina=planning/chartsSwitzerland, Austria, Germany - http://www.vacc-sag.org/?PAGE=airport_overviewFrance - http://www.vatfrance.org/joomlavat/index.p...d=74&Itemid=166Spain - http://www.vatspa.net/web/component/option...id,418/lang,en/ follow link and register (free) - in Spanish. There may be other sources.US - I use the free airport bundles from flightaware.com - resourcesThe next version of RC will have better AI control while you are taxiing. You also have an option (if you can get used to it) that once you have pushed back you might want to switch to an overhead view. This is not always 3D accurate but it will show AI and taxiways.
April 18, 200818 yr Thanks a lot for your detailed answers, now I at least know how it works.Concerning charts, I always use Jeppesen airport charts and orientation on the ground is not a problem. Anyhow, I have two more questions:1. Is there a time-out limit for an AI aircraft to disapear whenboth of us stand face to face on the same taxiway or link but in the oposite direction ?2. How to switch to that 'overhead view' after push-back you mentioned in you answer? Thanks,Hugo
