    Robert Whitwell Retires from AVSIM

    Tom Allensworth

Robert Whitwell, AVSIM's Reviews Editor for the last 10 years, has submitted his retirement notice. Robert has said in an email to me:

    Hi Tom.

Well it’s been 15 years since I first came to AVSIM. I had just retired from the RCAF and wanted to keep my hand in aviation and simming was the answer. In 1999 I Googled “flight sim” and AVSIM pops up and I was intrigued at what I saw; wow have we ever grown in leaps and bounds since then.

I applied and was accepted to be a combat writer and enjoyed reviewing all 3 versions of Microsoft’s Combat Flight Sim series, amongst other titles. But wait, AVSIM has conferences? I first met the “gang” in Reno and attended all of the conferences we held.

When Aiden had to go overseas, I stepped in to assist in the editing and publishing of reviews. As Aiden’s career took more of his time away from the hobby, I became the full time Reviews Editor.

Zip ahead 15 years, and I find that the hobby has changed dramatically…. Microsoft’s iteration of the product kept moving ahead and 3rd party vendors kept up with the technological advances. Then MS crashed and burned by cancelling FS 11 and tried to “sell” Flight….you and I can tell them “we told you so”.

Robert's position will be taken by Chase Kreznor, who takes over responsibilities for Reviews Editor and can be contacted at reviews@avsim.com. Chase has previously held responsibility for the file library system and other key components of AVSIM.

Robert, from all of us on the AVSIM Team, we thank you for your years of service and countless hours working on behalf of the flight simulation community.Thank you for your service and your contributions. We wish you and Kathryn all the best in your future endeavors and we certainly hope that you will stay connected in the forums and elsewhere in the community.
