Kicked over the traces, bit the bullet, pulled the trigger. Yes I bought the AFM Mooney. It is a fast airplane. Not as hard a plane to slow as I had thought though. LOL

QuoteThanks for the very useful feedback Pippin. I to only fly in VR so that is very good news indeed. I will be getting the AFM ovation very soon, probably later today.
So thanks to everyone for the feedback all of it was helpful, considerate and very useful in determining an outcome.

I would like to have the Mooney Ovation, is there any feedback regarding the Alebo Mooney versus the Advanced Flight Modeling Mooney Ovation? Any thoughts as to which one is the best. At first blush I considered the Advanced Flight Modeling but am rather put off by early access, work in progress, updates coming out on a weekly basis etc. Alebo usually has beautiful modeling, 3D usually well done, but quite often flight modeling is somewhat suspect. Eeny Meeny Mini Moe, which is better I want to know!!

The ASDG super Cub, has pretty good tail dragger qualities. Although I am not tail dragger qualified I have seen several pilots familiar with the Super Cub to be quite happy with their model. I like it although it is too hard to start in my opinion.

Don't hesitate, don't meditate, just get it.

QuoteIf you play with the settings in vr2 you may find it is actually pretty stable. With the new VR stuff we have to relearn some of the program.

QuoteIf you have rudder pedals I would try to unplug and plug them back in. If you don't have rudder pedals make sure you don't have brakes set to a button, slider, or an axis in the joystick assignments. If none of that make sure you are hitting keyboard "V", or "B". If nothing else works try a reset, just close and reopen X-Plane, a reboot may be helpful after closing X-Plane. If none of that works, I would delete xplane.pref file found in the root folder of X-Plane 11 under Output\Preferences, just delete xplane.prf file only then close X-Plane and do a restart. The prf file will be rebuilt on startup. If none of the above do the trick I would do a complete fresh install of X-Plane 11.

I don't have Aerofly but when your frames are jumpy and shuddery it is called judder and is almost always caused from your settings being too high, or Super Sampling too high. I would try setting all settings to low and Super Sampling set to no more than 1.5 in OTT, see if you get a solid frames. Then after getting things looking OK as far as judder, start increasing things slowly. takes a bit of time but well worth doing. The rig you have is more than capable. Good luck.

On my version of OTT when I click the Add profile at the top of the list it locks the whole app up and apparently nothing happens. I looked at the shortcut at the bottom of the task bar and noticed there were two files showing up, for OTT, when clicking the second file it came up blank but I right clicked the blank window and maximized it and the profile window showed up and allowed me to make changes. Hope this makes sense.

If you need to reset your floor, go into SteamVR settings and redo room setup. to find the correct height for flightsims measure the distance from your floor to eyelevel while you are sitting down, not your height when standing. In flightsimming we are always sitting down instead of standing up.

I can't seem to get the mouse to zoom so far. Perhaps I'm not doing it right?
-
I have seen several posts wishing to be able to zoom in native VR. There is in fact a zoom available, it is the equals key on the keyboard for zoom out and the minus key to zoom back in.

For those having trouble with XP 10 or even 9 planes, generally if you open the plane in XP11 planemaker just open save and close, they will pretty much work in XP11. If you do this with a XP9 plane first open save and close in XP 10 planemaker, then in XP 11 planemaker. Not every XP 9 plane will work, but some of them do. I have a plane made for XP 9.6 that works beautifully in XP 11.20VR. That is the T34 Mentor from J. Rollon. Wonderful plane.

Presently the only way to interact with XP 11 in native VR is with the touch controllers, and the only official support is for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. That doesn't mean that other HMDs won't work. As you have found out you can see the hanger so as soon as they implement something other than the touch controllers to control you should be good to go. LR is looking into the possibility of mouse use.

7 hours ago, Paraffin said:That's one reason we need a zoom function. I use zoom on almost every flight in in regular 2D flying to spot a distant runway. I call it the "Chuck Yeager eagle eye cheat," to compensate for relatively low monitor resolution.
I'm often flying bush planes into non-controlled airstrips without being on an ILS glidepath, so acquiring the runway visually is critical. And X-Plane does a superb job of modeling features out in the distance without pop-in. So I hope a zoom feature makes it into the VR mode.
There is a zoom function click = (equals sign), on the keyboard to zoom in and the - (minus sign), on the keyboard to zoom back out.

10 hours ago, sightseer said:Can anyone tell me if an i5 6600K and a 1070 (8gig) would be enough to run XP11 on a Rift? (Win7 64 Home with 16Gig)?
I have a 6850K at 3.6 Ghz and A GTX1080. Your 1070 will probably do as well or nearly well as my 1080 does and I would bet the 6600 will be Ok also. You won't max out but with orthotiles you really don't have to have a lot of autogen and in VR AA is not nearly as important as it is in flat screen. I run FXAA only in VR and it looks good, when in flat screen I had to run 8X+ all of the letters added toget rid of the shimmering.

1) How much does an average VR headgear weigh, I tried to find the information on there web site but it is not available anywhere (http://oculus.com and http://vive.com)
2) Can you see your keyboard when using the VR headgear ?
3) In X-Plane, do you need any or all those controller that come with the VR headgear, or can you just use the normal yoke/throttle/pedal and keyboard ?
Thank in advance
My Oculus Rift CV1 weighs 18.7 oz. (530.136 grams)
As already stated you can see under the nose piece, but it isn't really made that way. It depends on the shape of your face. LOL.

You maybe able to run room setup again and find something that is not quite right. To get to room settings right click the SteamVR icon and click room settings. I put this up as some of us are really not use to Steam, I know I had to stumble around in Steam for awhile LOL

8 hours ago, charliewards said:Finally I can use my touch controllers in a cockpit! But... and this may be a stupid question... how do I brake without pedals or touching a joystick button or keyboard?
Grab the parking brake with the touch controller, would be the only way I could think of if you don't have rudder pedals. Otherwise you would have to set a button on your joystick/yoke.

thanks in advance. jp
Hello Brian there is a FSX forum right on below this one and the P3d forum is just below that one. I'll bet you would have some luck if you browsed in there this forum is for virtual reality using Oculus or vive or one of the other headsets that are coming on. LOL
Good luck,

I order to get a solid 45 in VR, I have to do 70 without VR. LOL. Fortunately it is easily doable. Not maxed out, but I didn't have to make any changes from what I normally run.

If I go the Steam vs Direct route, can I still install scenery, aircraft, etc, that isn't through Steam (exp: 3rd party, freeware, etc.)?. I would expect yes, but want to verify before I commit.
Frankly, my choice would be direct purchase, but does X-Plane 11 ever go on sale other than through Steam?
I have never seen a sale from Laminar Research, I still buy from them for the support to the simulator. That's just me though.

6 hours ago, Griphos said:Make sure that the planes you get are built for XP11 and not just listed as usable in XP11. Some older aircraft have patches, but still don't work fully correctly in XP11, even though they are listed as working. Do your research. The PMDG DC-6 is one of those. It doesn't appear PMDG is going to update it for XP11 either.
I don't fly tubes, so can't comment on your list of specific aircraft, except to say that the C172 is a bit demanding in terms of FPS performance. It's very well done, though. Personally, I'm eyeing the upcoming XP11 version of the 732 Twin Jet. I love classic planes.
Other GA aircraft I can recommend are the Aerobask craft, such as the Panthera (which includes a house made 750), the Just Flight Arrow III (perhaps the best GA plane available at the moment), and the ASDG Super Cub (although this one performs terribly on my system...I mean single digit FPS on load in). There's a freeware Lancair Legacy for XP11 that is quite nice, actually. For aerobatics, the Mudry CAP 10 is quite well done, and is built for XP11.10.
When Pete finishes the update on the SMS Beaver, it will be a must have. Same for the upcoming v2 version of the Twotter, I think.
I am surprised you have trouble with the ASDG Super Cub. fps on my system is about the same as the Just Flight Arrow III. Neither plane taxes the fps for me.

Yes X-Plane 11 has the laser pointers and they work very well. The first version of VR did not have the laser but versions since then all have the laser pointer.
