  1. Hi JD, Bob guys

    Just after some advice,

When RC is running the option window often presents me with various options to proceed with ATC namely:

    press 1 to proceed

    press 7 to proceed

unfortnately when I select GSX the options window it presents are ALSO numbered form 1 through to 6. Now when I select/press no1 for example it activates the option in Radar Contacts window instead (RC4 seems to take priority).

So is there any way I can change the option nos in RC4 so they don't conflict with GSX........................eg SHIFT 1 or CTRL SHIFT 1

Thanks for any help and advice

    John

p.s ive also posted on the GSX forum to see if anything can be changed in GSX (really looking forward to RC5)

  2. Hi Guys, Just to let you know Ive managed to get RC4 up and running, for anybody else having difficulty with this, I eventually solved the issue by the following method. 1) copied the DLL and placed one copy into the System32 folder and one into the System64 folder2) Followed the original instructions given by JD, However I hit the ENTER KEY after entering JD's code/input text. and after doing so CMD found and recognised the DLL. RegardsJohn

  3. Hi Ronzie, Thanks for getting back to me, however I'm still having difficulty. Because I'm running Windows 7 64bit do you happen to know if I should place the MSSTDFMT.DLL into the WindowsSystem32 folder or the Windows 64 folder ? This is how Ive executed your instructions: 1) Open CMD (via run as admin)2) TYPE: Cd \windows\syswow64 THEN PRESS RETURN3) THE CMD WINDOW NOW READS: C:\WINDOWS\syswow64>4) TYPE:regsvr32 /u msstdfmt.dll - IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ABOVE TEXT5) THE CMD WINDOW NOW READS: C:\WINDOWS\syswow64>regsvr32 /u msstdfmt.dll 6) TYPE: regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll - IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ABOVE TEXT7) THE CMD WINDOW NOW READS: C:\WINDOWS\syswow64>regsvr32 /u msstdfmt.dllregsvr32 msstdfmt.dll If I now hit ENTER I get a message saying the DLL failed to load check binary etc Can anybody please verify that what Im entering into the CMD window is correct and the results that CMD window is presenting is as expected. Many ThanksJohn

  4. Hi guys, Have received this error message ALL day............ after following every suggestion in this thread. JD: Could you please clarify what you mean when you state enter missing file name here? (are we supposed to type msstdfmt.dll ?) ........ and are there any spaces or returns/enter in your instructions. Having researched Microsofts tech I have located and downloaded: the missing msstdfmt.dll and placed this DLL file into my Windows\System64 folder...........I have then proceeded to follow your instructions via CMD (run as Admin) for 64 bit users:At the prompt type the following:Cd \windows\syswow64 (press the enter key)The prompt will change to this:C:\WINDOWS\syswow64>Type the following:regsvr32 /u msstdfmt.dll (enter missing system file name here) .............. NOT sure what file your refering to?then type the following: ........................................ should we enter or return after the above instruction or does the text continue on the same line ?regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll (enter missing system file name here) ................ NOT sure what file your refering to? sorry if this is basic stuff to you, but to me having (never had to enter CMD before) I just want to make sure I follow your instructions correctly. For your info I'm running Windows 7 64bit and Radar Contact 4.3 Many thanksJohn

  5. Hi Word Not Allowed,Well those temps appear to be pretty stable: under 100% Load the highest Coretemp recorded was 39C, as for the ambient temp Ive no means of measuring it....... theres NO heating on and its raining outside (British Summer-time) LOL.gif Anyhow have reinstalled ALL my FSX and 3rd party addons and to be completely honest, I'm very impressed with FSX performance (No stutters, CTD, No memory errors) so much so I'm cosidering NOT overclocking.Ive still got afew more FSX test I want to perform (just to push it to the limits) eg: 100% A1 traffic, Photographic Scenery, LevelD 767, Radar Contact, REX, TrackIR, landing at Heathrow during Dusk.and see how It performs, but upto now I'm a very Happy Chappy. Thanks for All your guidance.Cheers John

  6. Hi Everyone,In FSX (Free Flight Window) under the CURRENT WEATHER settings (User defined-Custom) you can change the weather visibility from 0.1km to unlimited. Once you've changed this setting (say to 20 miles) is it possible to make this a permanent default mileage? Is there any setting in the FSX.cfg for example, ........ that can be changed so 20miles becomes my default visibility.Any ideas anyone. Many thanksJohn

  7. It is best to keep everything on the FSX drive if you can. I thought the purpose of your post was that you were running out of room? I do not use photo scenery, but if you install photo scenery to another drive make sure that drive is as fast as the FSX drive.
Hi Gary,Will do,..... thanks for that.I think Ive pretty much decided to go ahead and purchase another SSD to match the one I have for FSX. Futhermore I'm going to back of my current scenery off the FSX SSD and install it along with ALL my other scenery on the NEW SSD when it arrives. That way the FSX drive will only have FSX installed plus a few bits. Will report back if this creates any problems, but Im not really expecting any as Ive been really impressed with the speed of FSX and these Drives.Kind RegardsJohn

  8. You can install your scenery in as many HDDs as you want (the more the merrier, within reason), as long as it's on an HDD different from the HDD you installed FSX on (so FSX can load files from both HDDs at the same time).A good strategy for loading scenery onto four different HDDs so you get the most simultaneous accesses to the HDDs (concurrency)could be:
    1. FSX and aircraft
    2. Meshes and Landclass
    3. Ground Textures and PhotoScenery
    4. Airports

    Cheers,- jahman.

Thanks Jahman,I guess I'll have to purchase another HD.Many Thanks for your HelpJohn

  9. As wannabflyer said, download realtemp, coretemp, hwmonitor, or speedfan, and tell us what idle temps you see. If you are at stock, you should see temps in high 20's, low 30's. Also what heatsink are you using. One last thing, the difference in temperature might be that one program measures the CPU temperature and another measures the temperature of the cores. For example, gigabyte boards have a program called easytune 6 which measures CPU temps, while realtemp and the other programs measure core temperatures. Speedfan measures both temps (the CPU temps are lower than the actual core temps by a couple of degrees as you observed).
Right Then,Installed the programs you recommended and here are the results of a 1 hr TEST:ASUS Thermal Radar: IDLE: 21C FULL LOAD: 34CREALtemp IDLE: 22C FULL LOAD: 37C max - 21C minCOREtemp IDLE: 23C FULL LOAD: Core0 = 37C high - 28C lowCOREtemp IDLE: 23C FULL LOAD: Core1 = 38C high - 30C lowCOREtemp IDLE: 23C FULL LOAD: Core2 = 36C high - 25C lowCOREtemp IDLE: 23C FULL LOAD: Core3 = 35C high - 28C lowThe SPEEDfan test had my SSD's, HHD, and CPU ALL at 128C (?) which I don't quite understand, however given these results would you say these are relatively normal. Oh the REALtemp also indicated that my Thermal Status was ALL OK (if that means anything)Just for reference: my Heatsink is Antec 920 as statedMany thanks for ALL your helpJohn

  10. All I was refering to was not installing the backup files and installations files to the FSX drive. Some programs must install to the FSX drive. Example, GEX is a downloadable program, I did not download it to my FSX drive I put it on my c: drive, the backup files are on my c:drive as is the installation file. Only those programs that you can choose a different directory to install to and not have it on the FSX drive.I moved nothing manually nor would I. Just me.
Hi Gary, everyone,In your opinion would it be to any advantage if I installed MY Photographic Scenery (Generation X) on a seperate drive (NOT the FSX drive) or is it best to keep Scenery files on the same drive as FSX.Many ThanksJohn

  11. You can use prime95, intel burn test, linx, folding at home, or occt to stress the CPU. I've only used prime95 and intel burn test, but be careful with intel burn test because it drives my temps much higher than prime.
Hi guys,Been running my System at Idle for an hour now! ....and the CPU Temp has remained at a steady 41C (according to the ASUS BIOS CPUtemp indicator), However having consulted the ASUS BIOS Installation disc I decided to install ASUS Thermal Armour Software to see if the TEMPS on that particular Software agree with ASUS BIOS indication...........THEY DONT.The ASUS Thermal Armour sensors are indicating my CPU Temperature at 22C (Huge difference). In conclusion if I split the difference at say 31C is that TEMP more in line as to what you guys are seeing on your systems?RegardsJohn

  12. As Jahman says you can store the installation files for those programs off the FSX drive. However anything that needed to install to FSX will still be part of the FSX file. You can get an idea of how large your actual FSX installation is by right-clicking the FSX folder and selecting properties. That is the actual size of the FSX installation so you can plan your HDD size accordingly. The storage drive does not need be an SSD.Example: I have FEX, the FEX program is on my c: drive, it could be on any drive but the cloud texturers it installed are on my FSX drive, they cannot be moved. Same with GEX, the installation file and any backup files are on my c: drive and could have been installed onto any drive but whatever files were installed to FSX cannot be moved. ASE the same, it installed on my c:" drive and could have been installed on any drive, I do not use ASE for clouds so nothing is installed on my FSX drive, ASE can be installed anywhere.
Hi Jahman, Gary,When you mentioned FEX installed the TEXTURES files onto your FSX drive (even though the FEX program is installed on a different drive) is this something you had to do MANUALLY or did FEX do install the TEXTURES onto the FSX drive automatically. For eg if I install RADAR CONTACT onto a different drive other than FSX. would that install the AUDIO WAV files on the FSX drive because it would require them during FSX play.?Thanks for your patience, John

  13. It's way too high on idle. My guess with that cooler it should run about 30-35c on idle. I am running 35c idle with watercooling, but I am overclocked to 5Ghz with idle voltage of around 1.25 (clocked 1.52).Either too much or not enough paste.I don't really know Antec 920, but did you follow the installation guide exactly?I'd also suggest you turn off Q-fan or whatever fan management routines there are in BIOS. Let it spin at max. And also if there is a CPU fan connector, connect it to the corresponding connector on the board. The fan IS turning, right?
Hi everyone,It appears when Ive checked the BIOS that the CPU fan was only running at 400rpm. Now Ive changed the CPU fan settings to HIGH (2300rmp)................the CPU temperature is at a steady 41C (this is at idle i.e. just booted-up and entered the BIOS) ................ IS THIS TEMP STILL TO HIGH?Before I pull my system to pieces and re-apply the PASTE is their any programs/sofware you can recomend that will enable me to put my system under LOAD to order to obtain a LOAD Temp. Many Thanks for your HelpRegardsJohnP.S. just incase it may HELP you my Motherboard TEMP is 27C, and my CPU voltage is 1.208V (Intel 2600K - the system is NOT overclocked)

  14. I'd say a little high... but it depends on what cooler you're using... Stock or aftermarket? And with the 1 hour temp is that a stress test program like P95 or OCCT? Or just idle temp? If it's idle it's too high.
Hi there,Yes that is at Idle, I thought it may have been a bit to high. As regarding the cooler its an after market (Antec 920) but Ive only just installed it so Ill look to see if I can raise the Fan speeds. What TEMP should I be looking for at IDLE?Many ThanksJohn

  15. Hi Guys,Having installed my CPU, Heatsink and ALL the other components required for our beloved FSX, I began to wonder if I'd applied the CPU thermal paste correctly? So is there any guidelines as to what the NORMAL operating temperature should be? I know it will vary because people are using different Heatsinks and Cooling equipment, but is there,......... for example a MAX danger level Temperature or MIN temperature guidline. At the moment my temperature is 46 degrees C (after 1 hour running time)based on a 2600K cpu (NOT overclocked)Does this appear HIGH or LOW?Hope you can understand this waffle......RegardsJohn

  16. Hi There,Just after some advice on the way FSX interacts with HD/SSD drives. This is my current set-up at the moment (New Build):SSD-1: Windows 7 64bitSSD-2: FSX + Airports and SceneryMy question is I'm running out of space on the FSX SSD drive and therefore Im looking at purchasing another drive for my FSX addons. If I aquire another drive for lets say: ASA, REX, Radar Contact etc,........... Will FSX be able to interact with this additional drive.I hope you can figure-out what I'm trying to achieve. Many Thanks guysJohn

  17. Since it's not in the case - I'd remove everything except the CPU/Cooler, including memory and just connect the PSU. ANy BIOS beeps? ADD memory and repeat. SHould get video error beeps. Continue as necessary connecting the HDD last.Vic
Thanks for the reply,Ive done as you suggest, but still have the same problem. Does anybody happen to know if the PSU fan should activate as soon as I switch on the PSU switch.? The reason I ask is I pulled ALL the cables from the PSU and plugged it directly into the mains, but when I switched it the PSU fan remained idle. Also been researching for the last few hours, and it appears as though I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, (quite a few infact), but they all seem to be pointed the finger towards CORSAIR and the AX1200 PSU.John

  18. Hi Everyone,Just run a TEST build before installing into case, but there appears to be a short of somekind.1) Corsair AX1200; when switched ON the motherboard LED light displays (GREEN - power ON) byt the PSU fan does NOT ativate? IS this Normal?2) When shorting the POWER switch pins on the Motherboard (To activate the TEST) the HEATSINK fans move for a Milli-second and then the Corsair PSU trips-out?These are my cable connections:From the Corsair PSU AX1200: I have ONE 24pin Power cable connected directly to the Board + ONE 8 pin power cable (Supplementry)also TWO 8 pin cables connected from the PSU to the GTX graphic cardFrom the HEATSINK: I have ONE cable conneted to the CPU FAN (3 pin) and ONE cable connected to a USB socket on the ASUS P67 MotherboardIs there any way of Eliminating either the Corsair PSU or the ASUS motherboard.Any suggestions, ideas will be greatly appreciated as I'm really P....d off.Regards John

  19. Hi guys,Have just completed my build for FSX as I write this thread, but I'm abit unsure how to proceed. Before I boot it-up (for the first time), am I supposed to install WINDOWS, FSX etc before I overclock my system (Intel 2600K, ASUS P67 M/board, DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 1866 Ram) or do I OVERCLOCK my System now before installing anything? Also bit of a dumb question I think, but I only have a Logitech wireless Keyboard and Mouse so how can I get my NEW BUILD PC to recognize the keyboard/mouse without installing drivers etc? or can I plug a (USB) keyboard and mouse straight into the NEW BUILD?Thanks for any Help or AdviceRegards John

  20. Hi Guys,As part of a NEW build I went ahead and purchased a Windows Home Premium 7 64 bit system, however when it arrived and I opened up the packaging, I found a Windows Home premium 7 64bit (OEM)? version. My Question is what exactly is OEM? and will I be able to legally use this version on my NEW build. OR do I need to return this DVD (Un-opened) and purchase a different Windows system. Many thanks for your helpJohn.

  21. Hi Everyone,Been reading up on computer jargon for weeks now so I can go ahead and build a better performing PC for FSX. (I'm a flyer not a geek :He He: ) So from what I have managed to figure out this is what Ive come-up with. Therefore I could do with your advice/guidance on compatability issues before I go ahead and order the items. The rig is purely to run FSX. Case: Lian Li PC-B25FWDProcessor: i7 2600k (1155) Sandybridge (would like to overclock to something around the 4.2G mark)Power Supply: Corsair AX1200 WattMotherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67 (1155)Heat Sink: Antec 920 HeatsinkMemory: 2x4Gb: Corsair VengenceSDD Drive: 240Gb (Purely for Windows 7 - 64 Bit)SDD: 240Gb (Purely for FSX) + 3rd party additionsGraphic Card: Nvidia GTX590The one thing I'm not to sure about is the Memory (Ram) if anyone could advice on mhz/speed etc Id very much appreciate it. Also I'd prefer to increase this form 4gb to 8 or possible 16 (if you think it will be to any advantage)Thanks Guys for help and adviceRegardsJohnp.s Id just like to say a big thanks to ALL who have posted here, without these forums I would'nt have been able to learn what I have over the last couple of weeks.
Hi everyone,A couple more things I forgot to ask: Sorry if they sound dumb questions.1) Does FSX run any better with a particular version of Windows 7 (eg Home, Premium etc) I will be installing 64bit?2) Will I also have to purchase a NEW FSX deluxe to run on Windows 7 or will my copy of FSX (Vista) run OK.3) I intend to install Windows 7 64bit on an SSD drive, What size SSD do you think I will need in order to leave some space on the SSD for Window updates, fixes etc. (will 128GB be enough for example).4) Eventually Id also like to install FSX on an SSD drive, once installed do you recommend I install ALL my 3rd party add-ons on the same SSD as FSX (Scenery, Airports, REX, Aircraft etc).?Many thanks again guys for your support.Johnp.s. Went ahead and purchased some of the build yesterday, and I received the components today: Lian Li case, ATX1200 PSU, ASUS Sabertooth P67, and last but not least one i7 2600k processor.

  22. I've spent about 12 hours over the last 3 days benching my new GTX 590 using FSMark11, and I've found a few interesting things about it that you may want to know before you purchase. The details of my rig are in my sig. Single Display Testing: The absolute fastest benchmark result I got was when I turned one GPU off. In single GPU mode I got an average of 42fps during the bench. When running in dual GPU mode I only achieved a stuttery 32. By forcing AFR through NVidia Control Panel, and setting BP=0, I was able to increase my performance to an average of 37fps.Surround TestingMy surround testing was not conducted using the FSMark11 protocol, rather it was tested flying around Flightbeam KSFOX, with TrafficX @ 200%, Aerosoft Megacities San Francisco, and tweaked according to Nick's Setup Guide. In NVidia surround testing both GPU's are in use at the same time, so there is no option to force AFR. With BP=0 I achieved 18-20 FPS very smoothly, however the sim was very unstable. I had one BSOD, one black screen, one Fatal Error, and some light scenery artifacting. By setting BP=1, Poolsize=490000000, I achieved a more stable sim, and a much smoother one. My FPS, however, stayed constantly at about 18 fps. I was very impressed how playable it was. Landing at the airport in heavy traffic, flying between buildings downtown at high speed, through clouds, and cruising around the city panning quickly, nothing interfered with the smoothness. Best FSX experience I've had yet. It is worth noting that during this entire test my GPU usage was pegged @ 99%, and VRAM usage at ~1000-1100MB per GPU.Given these results, I do not think that I can recommend the GTX 590. In single display testing, the card is hamstrung when using dual GPU's. The GTX580 has a faster clock, so you will be running a GF110, but at 800MHz+, rather than 612+ with your 1/2GTX590. For surround performance, I can't help but think that the 3GB GTX580 with TH2Go would be a far superior choice. No multi-GPU penalty, equivalent VRAM (more per GPU actually), and a significantly faster clock should = better performance.Don't take all this to say I hate the card, the GTX590 isn't performing poorly; I've never played FSX this smoothly, or had as enjoyable an experience as this with the sim. However, I think that your hard earned pennies may be better spent with a different choice.
Hi Guys,Thanks alot for the info, I was swayed over to the GTX590 having read that it is superb at detailed cloud redering (where as the ATI/AMD 6990 etc was poor) also I was thinking along the lines of being able to run a 3 monitor set up due to the GTX590's 3 out-puts PLUS I was thinking that 4Gb is better than 3Gb.As I said this is ALL abit new to me, just to clarify does FSX perform better running a SLI/Crossfire set-up? (i.e. running with 2 G/cards) because I only intended to use one really. Anyhow thanks again for your guidance...... I'll go and have a look at the GTX580 now and see how much that card cost along with TH2Go.Kind regardsJohn
