  1. Hi all, Just wanted to share some news with you about a commercial Vietnam war project in the works that some might find interesting... It’s called “When Thunder Rolled” and is currently still in development, but it leverages the Thirdwire combat flight simulator, not FSX! It's planned to be “mod friendly” and the spirit of development encourages people to get involved and help make a better product in the end. I always wished FSX had the capabilities to support a project like this could leverage the FSX engine and air combat functionality - think there's some progress being made but this is an interesting alternative. Well anyway, just wanted to pass along the news in case others might find it interesting, for more information you can visit their website at: www.whenthunderrolled.com Regards,Steve
  2. HA HAHAH AHAHA HA HA...clears throat...Seriously though, those "new scenery" screenshots represent unplayable conditions. Long ago this was documented as such on the website, but now I don't see that note there anymore. I doubt highly you'll get that level of autogen on any modern computer today...and still be able to fly the plane.I did play x-plane, loaded up my home airport - and I can't even get off the friggin' runway...LOLWell, anyway - good luck with X-Plane, you'll need it!
  3. Well, I really wish X-Plane was a serious VFR alternative to MSFS - but at this stage it's not even close in my opinion. Oh well, maybe another 5 years....????
  4. Why I don't fly X-Plane...because I can't get off the friggin' runway!Nice Autogen - right on my runway...LOL!
  5. Wow, it's been a loooong time since I've peeked in here. I just can't stand the MS FS2004 scenery blurries anymore, and would like to explore some of the other flight sims options lingering around. Can someone please tell me how the VFR flying is? Specifically, what is the scenery quality around 1D2 airport, Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal Airport located in Plymouth, Michigan? Details here: http://www.airnav.com/airport/1D2 I know that Randall Rocke in the past was so kind as to actually make this airport specifically, but do you get "photo realistic" textures/scenery surrounding it? What does it look like today with any scenery enhancements? Would someone be so kind as to take a couple of screenshots for me? What does Detroit, MI look like - has there been any really cool break-throughs in the scenery rendering? Thanks for reading, and for your consideration... Regards,Steve
  6. Any progress or updates to share?
  7. "OK! I'll turn it down, honey..." I'm tired of repeating that phrase to the wife. It drives me BONKERS that I have a nice 6.1 surround sound speaker system, but at this point need to look at exploring options for a nice headset.I'm looking for something analog (not USB), and something that supports the "surround sound" effect. My budget is $100-200. I think I remember something about the Medusa? Any other ideas or insight would be appreciated.Hopefully, in a few weeks, I can respond to the wifey, as I pull off my nice new headset "What's that honey, I couldn't hear you!!!"
  8. Great post Michael, I am experiencing the exact same problems, and will be following this thread closely. For what it's worth, here are my settings:TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=300[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=7.00000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=7.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=3Regards, Steve
  9. "GLOBAL MAX TEXTURE" set to high! What does this impact overall???
  10. Well geez, that's pretty enticing now, isn't it. Well, I think I'm going to go for it then. I've always been extremely impressed with Flight1 from their products to their support - so I may pull the trigger on this one within the next few days. That is really more than a satisfactory and fair answer, IMHO. Regards, Steve
  11. Well, could we get some indisputable confirmation on that? If it's a yes, I will be purchasing your product ASAP.
  12. Clouds, yea, that's a good one. That's why I have Flight Environment, and actually use the reduced resolution/DXT3 options. I think honestly, the clouds still look fantastic. But specifically, which variable(s) then???MAX_UNLIMITED_VISCLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE3D_CLOUD_PERCENTDETAILED_CLOUDSCLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITYRegards, Steve
  13. Getting back into FS2004 again. I wonder if anyone's ever come up with a list of the top settings that most impact frame rates? Do you guys have any insight - perhaps we can do a quick hit list, or point me in the general direction of a topic/web site where this has been previously discussed? What really are the top 5-10 settings that most impact frame rates? For example: Autogen density, AI Traffic, etc. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Regards, Steve
  14. I'm just getting back into FS2004, and really looking to take the plunge with Ground Environment. I think my subject line says it well - if I buy Ground Environment today, would I be eligible for a free upgrade that would make Ground Environment compatible/updated to work with MS Flight Sim 10? Regards, Steve

Outstanding idea, that would be the ultimate experience in my opinion, and I couldn't agree more! Some day that will come, and I'll be more than ready!
