  1. I have a thought... They do not calculate the same thing. The flight level change / 3 method results in a distance of 66NM for an altitude change of 20,000 ft. The altitude change *3 method results in a distance of 60NM for an altitude change of 20,000ft. Nathan's method is closest to the true 3 degree glidepath (it's actually a 3.14 degree slope, but pretty close). Rodd's method produces a 2.82 degree slope. While Nathan's method is closer to the true 3 degree slope, Rodd's results in a more conservative distance, giving some extra breathing room. So in the end, they both achieve the same goal, albeit slightly different numbers.
  2. BTW....any advantage to going the full deal of cooling the GPU and northbridge too with an open end system? I don't really do much gaming other than FSX.
  3. Thanks for the input guys. Upgraded my video card to the GTX 670 2GB...only added about $30 so I am comfortable with that. Also switched to Samsung 840 PRO SSD. Considering the Corsair H100 for CPU cooling.
  4. Yup...another new rig thread...it's been 7 years since I built my last rig so it's time to upgrade! 5. Not set on Asus at all...so long as the DFI boards are compatible with the rest of my system.Athlon 64 4000+Corsair XMS 3500LL Pro (2x1GB)Asus 550W PSUXFX GeForce 7800GTX 256MBAudigy 4Lian Li V1000B casePlextor 716-AL DVD burnerAny recommendations?
  6. Hi everyone,So I chose the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo for my new system but no one has any in stock. I'm thinking of perhaps "downgrading" my aspirations to a A8N-SLI Premium or Deluxe. Any comments? Here are my thoughts: I'm only running one Geforce 7800GTX 256MB for the time being....so is there any benefit to the A8N32...other than "future-proofing"?
  7. Hi Jeremy,Thanks for the input. The Asus A8N32-SLI does support 3.0Gb/s. I think I'll just go with the 4000+, and keep the 7800GTX SLI on there as well.Ray
  8. Hi All,After several years of buying off-the-shelf systems, I have decided to revert to building my own system. I have come up with the following, but wanted some input on a couple of things.Asus A8N32-SLI DeluxeAthlon 64 4000+ (San Diego 2.4k)2x1GB Corsair XMS 3500LL ProXFX Nvidia 7800 GTX SLI 512MBAudigy 4 ProWD Caviar SE 16 250GB (7200 RPM / 3.0Gb/s)Dell 2005FPW 20.1" LCD Flat PanelHere are my questions:The 256MB version of the 7800 GTX is 2/3 the price of the 512MB verson, and I am wondering if there'll be significant performance difference in FS9? Should I just take the 256MB and save the $$$?I know FS9 is CPU intensive, so there is the option of the FX-57, but again, wondering if there will be that much performance gain over the 4000+ (for 3.5 times the price)? As far as add-on stuff goes, I have a full suite of PSS aircraft (always used) and the UK2000 scenery (rarely used), but that's it.FS9 will probably be the most demanding use of my computer. Thanks in advance for any insights,Ray
  9. The Speed Control Indicator shows 1.3 x Vs (Vref). Vref is your final approach speed. We use Vref as a target for what speed to cross the threshold at. It is automtically calculated by the lift computer and displayed on the speed control indicator.Hope this helps,Ray
