  1. Hi John, thanks for reply and suggestions. Yes ATI radon 3870 card came with system but drivers are gone, as since then I have done fresh installs of both Vista and Win 7 on each HD I have.I could swap power supply unit from my Dell XPs710 which I use for my work ( I am self employed) Would just need to check it's compabtility to the 730, should be the same I guess. Thanks, aware of memory tests, Dell also has it's own inbuilt one as well. Memory in it is not orginal Dell 4gb, I bought some Transcent 4 x 2gb sticks earlier in the year, I could try putting orginal ram back in and testing, but FSX didn't run right when Radon card and orginal ram was in system either, if I recall correct. But of course I can try again and see.I've taken out Physc card, as far as I understand, the GTX has this onboard it's card anyway, although not had any reply on Nvidia forums to confirm this.Anyway not had a chance yet to test GTX card now I have it in PCIex slot 2.Going to do that today to see if it makes any difference.I'll report back what happens.Happy New YearPhil
  2. Hi JOhn, thanks for suggestion, I have onboard and PCI Creative SB Xfi card, Onboard audio is disabled in bios. I did update drivers for SBXfi card yesterday, as Windows 7 had installed it's own drivers, as it likes to do, well most OS like to do.This time I got Win 7 ones from Creative web site.I doubt this is the problem.Video card the GTX 285, this system or FSX along with system just don't like each other.By under clocling card as I have said, I have extended how long FSX will run before system just reboots from approx 30 mins to now around 2 hour mark, ran two long hauls yesterday in different parts of the worldMelbourne to Wellington and LAX to Honaolou and both around 2 hour mark rebooted system, whether I was actually flying myself or was away form PC and plane was on auto pilot, also different afct used, one default A321 other flight I used Captain sim 757-200FSX deluxe with Acc installed and DX10 checked. Hmm, that's a thought try without DX10, as after all DX10 is only a preview. but shouldn't matter, nor should under clocking VC, I've read quite a few posts on other forums where systems are o/c and more powerful and they have no issuse with FSX, although not yet found any Dell XPS 730 users with FSX.Default Factory clock speeds for the GTX areCore Clock. 648mz Memory Clock 1242, Shader 1476What I have them under clocked to are. Core Clock. 602mz Memory Clock 1093, Shader 1371It is not Win 7, as it will happen with Vista 64bit or 32bit as well, I have a duel boot, two HD, well 3 in fact except Win 7 is not detecting 3rd HD fully, not sure why, as Vista does. Going to goole to see why as it has a NFTS partion on it.As I know some say to install FSX on different drive to OS, not tried that.A mate of mine suggested to me late yesterday to try putting the gtx card into another PCIe slot ( I have 3) maybe not enough power is getting to the slot it is now.I also have a Ageia Physc card, as system came with a Radeon 3870, I'm not even sure if I need the Physc card as I belieave the GTX has that onboard itself. If this suggestion doesn't help, thne I put the Radon back in and see how it goes. If problem persists, Dell is getting a phone call. Although due to USB controller and Master Controller problems, they only replaced MB and Master Control board and 3 fans last month. So only CPU, Ram and Video card could be the issues, oh I guess Power Unit might be, not found a way to test if that is putting out the power it should be.Sorry for long post, but a bit to explain.CheersPhil
  3. Might be wise to get 750w PSU, if your system can take it.500w doesn't sound enough.Just a suggestion.
  4. I been having same problemExcept doesn't matter what add on etc I am using, or even with a clean install without add ons.System would either freeze screen and all I hear is loud sound or system would just reboot itself after 30 to 40 minutes of use.I thought I had solved problem by under clocking my GTX 285 VC, user a Dell XPS 730 forum user suggested it.We suspected system is not giving enough power to GTX card, even though I have a 1000w PSUWell yesterday and again today on a long haul flight it has locked up system after about 2 hours, ( well I guess that is some improvment)I have to manually reboot, but get no windows error in event viewer.Current clock speed of GTX is Core 602mhz, Mem clock 1153, Shader clock 1406Cooling Fan set to 50%If it is over heating, I am not detecting it, got a program called Everest which monitors system.Plus all fans are clean.Changed drivers,Any suggestions?System is Dell XPS 730 with Nivia Ultra SLI 790xQ9650 CPUTrancsend DDR3 1333 8gbWD Raptior 300gb HDNvidia GTX 285 1024mbAgeia Physc Card
  5. Yes no progessive taxi is a issue with DX10, although it does show from top down view. I still kind of think it is a driver issue why it won't show from other views. Not that I use it much, as I can folow ATC most times, as I do have real life flying training. VFR day and night PPL licence in real life.Note sure what you mean by runway lites, they come up okay on my system under DX10Phil
  6. How did you go, did Fresh install fix things. As in last week, I am getting similar errors, it can happen at the start of a flight or 10 or 20 minutes into it, the faulty module is either Terrian.dll or API.dllThis is the latest error report.Problem signatureProblem Event Name: APPCRASHApplication Name: fsx.exeApplication Version: 10.0.61637.0Application Timestamp: 46fadb14Fault Module Name: terrain.dllFault Module Version: 10.0.61637.0Fault Module Timestamp: 46fadb59Exception Code: c0000005Exception Offset: 000afc44OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1Locale ID: 3081Additional Information 1: f3b5Additional Information 2: 67157acfc10691bf1c01accd62406c5aAdditional Information 3: b4f4Additional Information 4: 686b80d14c6be7494511e7ba36846343Only add on, I've installed in last 2 weeks, is some payware scenery called Real NZ from Godzone.http://www.windowlight.co.nz/acrossthestrait.htmlI've reported problem to them, in case it is to do with there scenery, but I doubt it, as I disablled it and deleted fsx.cfg file and started FSX again and crash justed happened again.Looks like a repair installaiton for me. First time in a over a year I've had to do this.Anyone with suggestions, please post,TIAPhil
  7. I think it is to each person's taste. Also if your running XP, one cannot run DX10 preview.I use DX10 all the time, but I have the system to take advanatge of it.Dell XPS 730 Extreme Quad core 9650 3.00 , O/C to 3.94gb ramNvidia GTX 285Vista 32bitI've noticed in Windows 7 Beta ( I have a duel boot on my system) that the DX version is DX 11, what that means for Flight sim, who knows, as with what hapepned with Aces earlier in the year, I've not heard of any certain plans to make the next version. I guess time will tell, Yes I agree there is a lot of add ons one cannot use with DX10, but there is more and more every month being released.Phil
  8. Especially when system is a Dell XPS 730 and can be overclocked.Dell even has videos on how to do it on You Tubehttp://forum.dmxdimension.com/f6/overclock...-xps-630-a-300/
  9. Hi SharrowOnly looking at gaming system now, been busy with work, which in these times is good to say.Going to have a go at overlocking CPU either this evening or tommrrowI'll have a read of Nicks guide, thanks for link.Yes I've looked at Track R, is in my mind as one option as is Duel head to go. Don't need the triple but if I do go down that path I might as well get triple, as the duel appears only to be VGA, although I did see on one page a DVI version, but not yet found where one is dol, probably been succeded by the tripe version, who know I may add a 3rd monitor one day.I've done the extended to other monitor bit ands then in FSX opened another view and locked it and drag it across to left monitor, that was with Radeon card, that is how I knew frame rates dropped. As your asking the system to run two windows of FSX at once basically. Thanks again for your post and info.Went to check out the 180.48 drivers (got the latest installed currenlty, 181.20) and found a link at Nvidia site.http://www.slizone.com/object/sli_cuda_learn.html#gamesSometing I should have a read up on as it mentions running multi Monitors, although from my brief read of page, I don't think kFSX is a game it will help, but who knows.CheersPhil
  10. Hi Sharrow, yep that is what I did, put the 8800 GTX in system last night, had not toruble running it, although got rid of the blurries when running DX10 preview, frame rates basically little change, but as people have said here CPU alters Frame rates.Yes I do run a few AAA titles on a 24 inch monitor, I want to run duel monitors, have a 20 inch Dell Flat screen, e.g Left monitor has a left cockpit view and main moniotor has forward cockpit view.Others have told me, only way I could run that is with "Duel or Triple head to go" as when you have two FSX windows open and extend desktop, ouch frame rate killer. And their right about Frame rate hit, it's basically 50% less but if Frame rates are down to CPU, then this Duel head to go won't help will it, Anyone here use one of these Duel or Triple head things?Although then why would I get such a hit on Frame rates runnign duel monitors? Maybe it is also down to Video card? They seem expensive, more than a Very Good video card.Anyway I do some research on that product and check out the GTX260 or 285ThanksPhil
  11. I'm similar,I have it on one drive with Vista and another dirve with Win 7Activation for FSX and Accelartion not a problem.I think you can activated FSX 3 times in some time period as long as it is on same PC or IP, not sure about IP as how would they know.
  12. Thanks for replies and info guysI check out Tom's hwardware site, I think I've been there before, sounds familar.Trying to understand it, but I take it the higher scores the better, gee ATI cards don't rate well on that site.Even the 8800GTX rates better than the 3870x2I have a Ge Force 8800 GTX 768mb 384bit GDDR3 card, I got it for my other XPS system I use mainly for work, ( I'm self employed)Yet this card always caused trouble and didn't perform any better than the ATI 3870 is currently doing, well maybe a bit better as I've said, Dell tech and I checked system fully and they changed MB, CPU, HD, Ram at no cost, but what I have not done is tried this card in newer XPS system, I read the other day the Nvidia 180 series drivers are better than the 170 series, you guys finding this to be the case,?There was one 170 series driver that stopped after running any game especially FSX after 10 or so minutes. You suggest I go with the GTX 260 or 280, but they don't score as well as the 8800 GTXWhat about this one, which appears very new? GTX 295 or is that the one Sharrow you meant as the new one?http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...0noiCjCPDnCin9DOn the cpu side, I have a Quad core Intel extreme cpu @ 3.00ghz and 4gb ddr3 ram.Which both can be overclocked, been doing some overclocking with video card with Rivatune and a program called 3Dmark V to check what I change is still stable. But as Sharrow said, CPU effects FPS, so next overclocking will be CPU. Thanks again guysCheersPhil
  13. Ah, turning off UAC, didn't think of that of a reason why I coudlnt get My Traffic added to scenery libary, I'l give that a try.CheersPhil
  14. I can't speak for Nvidia users, but I let Win 7 install the driver for my Radeon card.Which was I quite sure was same version driver as the beta one ATI has on their web site for download, excpet when you let Win 7 install it, it says it is a certifed driver, can't work that one out!
  15. My initals views on Win 7 Beta To my surpise or maybe not such a surpise when I ran DXdiag, it came up with DX11Oh great M$ to run Windows 7, in 12 months people are saying, there are going to have to be a whole new series of Video cards, well maybe not, as I ran FSX and found no difference to how it performed in Vista. Although I think it could of been the Beta drivers ATI had realeased, soemtines when I ran FSX, it display settings of FSX no video card was listed. Just 0.0 and 0.01 ( I have a duel card)I hope and I'm sure many do, next version of FS wil fully support DX11 and not this preview thing we currently have, but I don't get M$ why jump to DX11 when DX10 is not fully finished or is it and FSX just isn't coded to use it!Cynical answer is to get is simmers to upgrade hardware.Although my hardware add ons like CH rudders and PFC cirrus !! Console worked fine and FSUIPC did too.Had trouble installing "My Traffic", couldn't add it to scenery libary, not sure if that is a Windows 7 issue or what!!One thing I did like about Win 7, was start up and shut down were far quciker than Vista. As one other post says here, it is on first apperance Vista with Cosmetic changes, but after only 2 days of use, need more time to judge it.Thought others might find this interesting.CheersPhil
