fsx freezes/crashes then automatically reboots computer

Featured Replies

hi im chris i know its a long title but it grabs attention, also i know its not a ctd but its close, anywho i had fsx deluxe sp2 on vista 64bit then upgraded to acceleration and now after sometime playing the gauges get fuzzy and freeze then a few moments later the whole game freezes and stays that way for about a minute then reboots my computer, i have been getting fatal error messages when i try and use a certain downloaded plane that worked great on deluxe sp2 but not on acceleration... please help

please can somebody help

Did you install clean or did you install Acc over sp2?

John

i had deluxe with sp2 the had to uninstall sp2 to put on acceleration

What add-on is giving you the trouble, or is FSX crashing with everything?

John

fsx crashes with everything even the default aircraft, i have a socata that causes a fatal error message but worked great with deluxe and sp2

I would reinstall a clean FSX + Acceleration W/O sp 2. In between FSX & Acc restart, you should do this between any add-ons you install as well! And test each new add-on before moving on to the next.

I been having same problemExcept doesn't matter what add on etc I am using, or even with a clean install without add ons.System would either freeze screen and all I hear is loud sound or system would just reboot itself after 30 to 40 minutes of use.I thought I had solved problem by under clocking my GTX 285 VC, user a Dell XPS 730 forum user suggested it.We suspected system is not giving enough power to GTX card, even though I have a 1000w PSUWell yesterday and again today on a long haul flight it has locked up system after about 2 hours, ( well I guess that is some improvment)I have to manually reboot, but get no windows error in event viewer.Current clock speed of GTX is Core 602mhz, Mem clock 1153, Shader clock 1406Cooling Fan set to 50%If it is over heating, I am not detecting it, got a program called Everest which monitors system.Plus all fans are clean.Changed drivers,Any suggestions?System is Dell XPS 730 with Nivia Ultra SLI 790xQ9650 CPUTrancsend DDR3 1333 8gbWD Raptior 300gb HDNvidia GTX 285 1024mbAgeia Physc Card

I've had the loud sound before, the only way out was to reboot. That was from the on board sound card ot getting along with an add on. May be a long shot but maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound card drivers.

Hi JOhn, thanks for suggestion, I have onboard and PCI Creative SB Xfi card, Onboard audio is disabled in bios. I did update drivers for SBXfi card yesterday, as Windows 7 had installed it's own drivers, as it likes to do, well most OS like to do.This time I got Win 7 ones from Creative web site.I doubt this is the problem.Video card the GTX 285, this system or FSX along with system just don't like each other.By under clocling card as I have said, I have extended how long FSX will run before system just reboots from approx 30 mins to now around 2 hour mark, ran two long hauls yesterday in different parts of the worldMelbourne to Wellington and LAX to Honaolou and both around 2 hour mark rebooted system, whether I was actually flying myself or was away form PC and plane was on auto pilot, also different afct used, one default A321 other flight I used Captain sim 757-200FSX deluxe with Acc installed and DX10 checked. Hmm, that's a thought try without DX10, as after all DX10 is only a preview. but shouldn't matter, nor should under clocking VC, I've read quite a few posts on other forums where systems are o/c and more powerful and they have no issuse with FSX, although not yet found any Dell XPS 730 users with FSX.Default Factory clock speeds for the GTX areCore Clock. 648mz Memory Clock 1242, Shader 1476What I have them under clocked to are. Core Clock. 602mz Memory Clock 1093, Shader 1371It is not Win 7, as it will happen with Vista 64bit or 32bit as well, I have a duel boot, two HD, well 3 in fact except Win 7 is not detecting 3rd HD fully, not sure why, as Vista does. Going to goole to see why as it has a NFTS partion on it.As I know some say to install FSX on different drive to OS, not tried that.A mate of mine suggested to me late yesterday to try putting the gtx card into another PCIe slot ( I have 3) maybe not enough power is getting to the slot it is now.I also have a Ageia Physc card, as system came with a Radeon 3870, I'm not even sure if I need the Physc card as I belieave the GTX has that onboard itself. If this suggestion doesn't help, thne I put the Radon back in and see how it goes. If problem persists, Dell is getting a phone call. Although due to USB controller and Master Controller problems, they only replaced MB and Master Control board and 3 fans last month. So only CPU, Ram and Video card could be the issues, oh I guess Power Unit might be, not found a way to test if that is putting out the power it should be.Sorry for long post, but a bit to explain.CheersPhil

I also have an GTX285 VC and its factory overclocked fairly high. Aside from drivers I haven't had much trouble with it. Did you have the ATI card in prior to the 285? If so are you certain all the old drivers are completely removed? Is the Ageia Physc Card needed? I don't think FSX gains anything from it can you try pulling it and see what happens?I have seen strange things happen with a failing RAM, this is easy enough to test. Vista has a built in tester and a google for MemTest should get you what you need. The power supply could be overheating do you have an older one or a friends you can try? It is possible to test them with a multimeter but I'm not sure which pins to test, again a quick google would help you with the correct procedure.

John

thanks for the replies, sorry i havent been on here for a while, i'll try the suggestions, and here our a few more specs just incase it helps9800gtx X2 in sliE8400 wolfdale overclocked to 4.02ghz8 gigs ram780i motherboardit cant be an overheated issue because it started before i overclocked my cpu, and ive monitored the temps cpu hits 52c under 24 hr prime 95 stress test, with 4 120mm side fans blowing in, a true cpu cooler with 80mm fan and a 120 mm fan blowing through the hardrives and a 120 mm exhaust fan, im sure the cards are getting enough power its a 750 watt power supply

Hi John, thanks for reply and suggestions. Yes ATI radon 3870 card came with system but drivers are gone, as since then I have done fresh installs of both Vista and Win 7 on each HD I have.I could swap power supply unit from my Dell XPs710 which I use for my work ( I am self employed) Would just need to check it's compabtility to the 730, should be the same I guess. Thanks, aware of memory tests, Dell also has it's own inbuilt one as well. Memory in it is not orginal Dell 4gb, I bought some Transcent 4 x 2gb sticks earlier in the year, I could try putting orginal ram back in and testing, but FSX didn't run right when Radon card and orginal ram was in system either, if I recall correct. But of course I can try again and see.I've taken out Physc card, as far as I understand, the GTX has this onboard it's card anyway, although not had any reply on Nvidia forums to confirm this.Anyway not had a chance yet to test GTX card now I have it in PCIex slot 2.Going to do that today to see if it makes any difference.I'll report back what happens.Happy New YearPhil
