  1. Thanks for the reply,I have to go from 1.20 zoom on the ground to 1.34 in flight due to mismatched projectors/view sizes and it is the return during descent to 1.20 that I want to be accurate otherwise when I touch down all the airport views are out of alignment with the main fwd view and the immersive effect is lessened,it used to be fine before when I could see the text .I'll try the backspace idea but I find the zoom level does not default on startup to the level(1.20) as set in Wideview,so if I can get that to default to 1.20 on backspace that will solve the problem with one key stroke,I'll have a look at the .cfg to see if it can be set there.

    regards Jim

  2. Hi I have an enclosed multi view setup and need to use +- keys to regularly change the zoom rate on the left/right views in flight, but having just repositioned one of the projectors I can no longer see what zoom rate is applied to one of the views (red letter message).I don't want to have to always open up the views window each time to see the zoom rate,so is it possible to reposition the red messages somewhere else on the view, tried dragging but no go.

    Thanks for your help.

    regards Jim

  3. Thanks for the reply. After posting yesterday I came across a payware utility by FSPS called Rwy Bumping Effect which does just as its name .I bought it, and with buttkicker it really gives a good thump in the seat plus sound.Unfortunately I'm having some issues with it at the moment which the very good support is trying to fix but it has great potential. If I can't fix the issues I'll maybe try AES.

    regards Jim

  4. Hi I've just got a buttkicker for xmas and it works well , but what is missing is the sounds/feel of the nosewheel running over the centreline lights at speed, does anyone know of any fs9 freeware/payware that does this ?

    regards Jim

  5. Thanks Chris... If I have understood you correctly, The FSim is not controlling the LEDs...Its the DPDT switch that gives power to the LEDs, by turning on the Switch, you are sending a switch signal to the Flight sim and then allowing the +5v to power on the LED at the same time.

    Right?

Do you think, it would be possible to turn on the LEDs without throwing a switch? Meaning.. if the OMI Radio Beacon Indicator lights (Outer, Middle, Inner Beacon lights that come on when on an ILS approach) come on in the Radio Panel, could that be made to trigger the LEDs?

    Manny

Hi Manny the Bu0836x card only allows inputs through the card , it does not work with outputs from the sim/aircraft i.e the outer marker etc output from the aircraft cannot be sent back through the BU0836x card to operate an led,for that you need an output card which are widely available.

    regards Jim

  6. I stand corrected. :) I didn't know about that 757 to JFK in the early 90's.
No probs :( ,the a/c would then shuttle from JFK to YYZ and back, but the narrow body was unpopular across the atlantic and the service was abandoned after a couple of years.regards Jim

  7. British Airways don't operate the 757 anymore, and never to New York. The BA owned Open Skies do however. From Paris - Orly to Newark (previously JFK)
British Airways definitely did operate a 757 from BHX to JFK in the 90's,I was regularly on it :Money Eyes:regards Jim

  8. OK,I did leave out the important variables - I know, but the takeoffs I quote are from me as a passanger on a real 777, 747, 767 doing international flight on a packed plane. As a PDMG 747 pilot, I just notice at sea level, standard pressure, no winds, it seems that a 520,000 lb 747 takes off way too soon (20 secs) with flaps set at 10 degrees. As a passanger,I always time the takeoff from enginees spoolong up to wheels up - and I usually get 35-45 secs - never 20 secs in a jumbo. But I was on a JetBlue A319 at JFK 31L and we were wheels up before the threshold. We only needed the run up area to take off.
I used to time the take off run out of Nairobi northbound to London on the 747-200 back in the 1970's as it was always famously long winded. The longest run I recorded on a very warm evening was 1 minute 25 seconds from brake release(take off power already set) to lift off!!.It must have been rather "interesting" for the crew...regards Jim

  10. Thank you for that informed and considered opinion. I am mildly curious though, just how much extra are you willing to pay in terms of ticket price, journey time or connections in order to find route you can complete on just Boeing aircraft? And just so we have have a point of comparision, can I ask roughly how many flights you make a year and to how many different destinations?
    :( regards Jim

  11. I would like to ask to PMDG if they have already contacts with flightsim labs for the drivers to make work Cpflight hardware (MCP, EFIS, COM, NAV and MIP annunciators) like they did for the fs9 version.I plan to build a home cockpit as soon as NGX comes to life using CP flight hardware, can we expect this cooperation between those parties?I asked the same question to flightsimlabs on their forum but I still didn't get any answer, Cp flight just answered "we think they will make a driver for it".What's the PMDG position? Many thanks
Apologies if I'm wrong but I'm not too sure that pmdg and flightsimlabs contact each other that much......but I'm sure a driver will be forthcoming at some stage, and I can highly recommend cpflight hardware.regards Jim

  12. Hello all:I found this 'possible tweak' for FS2004 on flighsim.com posted by ZION in a thread called terrain.cfg and blurries. If you guys have already heard about it and/or tried it then my apologies.I've tried it and it looks promising for visuals anyways. I didn't notice any great improvement in FPS's but it definately didn't hurt them either. So here goes.First make a backup of your terrain.cfg file found in your main FS9 directory. The change isn't a big one so it shouldn't be hard to remember how to change it back :) but getting into the habit of making a backup of files before you change them is always a good one.Now at the very top of the file you will see a line under the [General] section that reads DefaultTextureCount=238Now to determine what to change this number to, keep scrolling down your terrain.cfg file and you see headings of [Texture.####] where #### is numbers used to represent textures used in the sim and they usually start at 1024 for the first one.So keep scrolling down the file to find the section with the highest number. Mine was 1261. It should be right before the sections for autogen. So now take that number, again in my case 1261, and replace the default 238 in the line I mentioned at the top that read DefaultTextureCount=238 to read DefaultTextureCount=#### (your highest number). Then save it and then go fly around a bit and report back on the success or no change or worse results that you find.Like I said it was NOT me that found this possible 'tweak' so remember don't kill the messenger. That's why i asked you to make a backup :)So let us know if this works out as we could possibly have a bunch of happy simmers if it does help us out.Again this is for FS9 / FS2004 and the terrain.cfg file found in the main FS9 directory. Thanks and waiting to hear your results.Paul.
Thanks for the info,I've tried it and I may well be imagining it but there appears to be a very significant improvement for me. :( regards jim

  13. Lets face it most Americans want the world to buy American aircraft and protect American jobs, and most Europeans want the world to buy European aircraft and protect European jobs, nothing wrong or surprising about that, simple really :( .regards Jim

  14. What is the best way to back up FS9? I have a huge install and it would take weeks for me to go reconfiguring my installation, plus if I build a new PC I want to transfer the (especially payware scenery and aircraft as well as lots of freeware scenery) whole lot across. Is there a 'procedure for this?Would love to know. I made a Ghost (Norton) back up of my PC with FS2004 fresh install on it with this PC but I don't think a Ghost image would work on any other PC, even with the same Motherboard. I have the same Motherboard in storage (just need to build a 2nd PC) but activation won't work I think.Any ideas and suggestions, tips and of course procedures WELCOME!
I have a 2pc setup and could not face the idea of a HDD crash in either drive so I took the easy no skill required (important in my case!!) albeit more expensive option of buying 2 spare Hard drives and a Hard drive duplicator device £45 approx.Incredibly simple to copy the whole drives to the new drives.I have no idea if there are any pitfalls in going down this route but I have tested the new drives and all is running perfectly. The drives are now stored awaiting the inevitable crash.Obviously if I make any major changes to my installations in the future I will need to re copy the entire drives again but it only takes me approx 45 mins per drive.regards Jim

  15. Hi Guys Could I ask for a little advice, I'm using the B747-400 Queen of the skies As I approach landing with Autopilot disengaged at 400ft and Autothrottle disarmed at 30ft just about to actually land, I engage my reverse thrusters and for some unknown reason the plane revs up and takes off clearing the runway again almost like a touch and go, VREF is correctly set Speedbrakes armed LOC & GS Capture, I wonder if I should leave my autothrottle engaged ? Could anyone suggest any solutions please Many Thanks Richard
It rings a very vague bell that I had a similar problem years ago and that when landing with anti icing on and applying reverse thrust the same thing happened, ever since then I've always disengaged anti icing before landing, not sure if this is the same problem.regards Jim

  16. Along with a number of misspellings in my post :( I also neglected to mention that all pilots that I worked with were very professional at all times, and many had a great sense of humour and took part in the usual banter with us (cabin crew) whilst keeping a close eye on the safe operation of the aircraft. regards Jim

  17. You need to post aircraft specific stuff in the respective aircraft thread, and also use your full name in your signature...Andrew
I will post it in the 737 section where I notice plenty of people who have purchased pmdg products who are also only comfortable using their first name, seems I'm not alone....regards Jim
