  1. Thanks Tom for replying.Bear with me,what I meant with Q.2 was a bit more basic I think!!.I have not bought ez scenery yet and just wanted to take a look inside the generic scenery folder in fs9 to see the objects trees/buildings etc available which I will be able to use along with the scenery objects that come with ez scenery.I followed the fs9 path scenery/generic/scenery,texture but I am unable to view the finished article as 'drawing failed' keeps appearing.I assume I require a utility to be able to display the trees/ buildings etc.My apologies for this rather basic question.regards Jim

  2. Hi,I am thinking about buying ez scenery and have some questions I can't find answers to on their site or from searching and would like some advice.I have looked at the Avsim scenery forum but I'm well out of my depth.1) I want to place buildings/objects using ez scenery in fs9 on my laptop and later transfer the changes into the scenery folder on my main pc.I am a novice at this,is it reasonably easy to do?2) A basic question, but I have been looking inside the fs9 scenery folder trying to open/view the scenery objects, as I understand I can re-use the objects using ez scenery as well as using their own library objects. So far I have been unable to view any of them as 'drawing failed' keeps appearing. Is there a utility that I require to do this?.I have tried photoshop etc to no avail.thanks for your help regards Jim

  3. I have acquired a minor guage problem with all aircraft.I've noticed that in full screen mode, the 2D cockpit guages have become oval shaped i.e taller than they are wide.3D is fine. They go back to normal shape when I switch back to windowed mode.I can of course reshape the panel every time I fly but it's a bit of a pain.I have recently downloaded a couple of 2D panel only aircraft.Could there be a connection possibly? There is probably a glaringly obvious fix that I've missed so any help would be much appreciated.regards Jim

  4. Hi Ian,reading your post I have the feeling we both worked for the same major U.k airline albeit you at the pointed end,me in the dreaded fwd galley ,although now recently retired.Almost all your observations re flight crew/cabin crew relations are spot on but with the following exceptions.I remember some great cabin crew /flight crew pi*s-ups a few years ago, but stricter enforcement of the drinking rules put pay to that and night stop socialising started to die off. Also in my day cabin crew/flight crew were given cash allowances at hotel check-in, so spending it on booze and food felt like you were spending someone elses money.Yes we did sometimes pester the flight crew to taxi in slowly if there was a chance at chocks that we would cross over into a new time period and get some increased extra time period payment.Equally I remember a few pilots who would make a game out of skidding around corners flat out to try and get on chocks before triggering the extra payment just to thwart us!!Yes If you are a two ringer f/o I probably did earn more than you,but thats after 28 years of seniority and pay increments .It does not take long until your salary overtakes mine and leaves me for dust. And finally ,there were lots of 'liaisons' between flight crew and female cabin crew and there probably still are just as there were between 'non mincing' male and female cabin crew.........I made a lot of flight crew friends over the years and generally the two groups got on pretty well, even got free sim time occasionally.regards Jim

  5. Pat ,I absolutely agree with you, the above mentioned service did not work for me.I eventually found the problem myself(overheating) and I have since spent countless hours reading and digesting posts on Avsim and I am now able to fix most problems myself or with the help of other members whose knowledge is second to none.regards Jim

  6. Hi Mike , I am absolutely definitely no expert with computers or tweaking but in my case I would agree with others that although my fps hold up very well with the upgrades,I too still get some jerkiness at the same time as good fps in the mid 20's at complex airports/cities suggesting it is my p4 3.4 running out of steam.Things get noticeably worse if I don't open the pc case and apply an external 7" fan.Your p4 3.6 may help a little in this dept and there is always the overclocking/increased cooling option.Best of luckregards Jim

  7. Hi Mike, when testing fps these are the standard parameters I use.PMDG 747 ,no flightplan in fmcVC (fwd and 10 o'clock view)CLEAR SKY/MID DAY250 kts2500 ftSEATTLE 340 degreesFPS locked 25With Seattle City directly to my left at 10 o'clock I used to get approx 19 fps with the 6800 card and 350 watt supply. Now with the 7950 gt and 650 watt supply I get approx 24-25 fps.I use FS GLOBAL 2005, GE PRO, all sliders to right excluding autogen on dense, sight distance 40 miles.Hope this is of some helpregards Jim

  8. Thanks Ken,you pointed me in the right direction. It does appear that a new runway or rwy number 16c has been added with the latest sid/star AIO,which does not match airac 0608.I just downloaded an older sid/star version, the August one, for KSEA and the problem appears to be solved.Time maybe to buy credits for Navdata methinks.thanks for your helpregards Jim

  9. I have a message 'KSEA error:16c rwy unknown' message appear when I enter KSEA in the fmc origin/destination boxes. No runways appear for KSEA in the arr/dep section of the fmc.I had uninstalled/reinstalled pmdg 747 yesterday and it was fine afterwards.Today I downloaded airac 0608 and sid/stars AIO and that's when the problem began.I have reinstalled Airac 0608 but still have the problem.Have tested KJFK/KLAX/KDEN/KSFO/KMIA/EGLL/EGGB/EGPF and all is well.I know the answer is simple but when it comes to computers,so am I.Any help would be appreciated.regards Jim

  10. Hi,I bought the PMDG 747 soon after it was released and being new to flightsim it was my first add on.Having only used the default aircraft before I was surprised how easy it was to get airborne and also how very different the aircraft felt.So pleased I was with just flying her that I decided that I would not be in too much of a rush to learn how to program the fmc and understand the systems. However, that did not last long and I now enjoy flying both 'by the book'and just plain joyriding. An excellent add on.regards Jim

  11. I too had problems getting the spoilers to work on the ground with the throttle quadrant and PMDG 747,finally cured by reducing engine idle to around 25% from around 38% which also cured a few other problems. Was a while ago and can't remember exactly what I did. regards Jim

  12. How is this for realistic.Last summer while watching the Concorde Re-heats ignite in spot view from the rear ,a strong wiff of burned kerosene suddenly hit me right in the nostrils just as they ignited. For a second I was in heaven. Then I realised a small window just behind my monitor was open, and my oil fired boiler which has the exhaust vent just below the window had switched on as usual at 16.30.All that was missing was the jet blast.A true story.regards Jim

  13. Jth,the doors are closed from outside overnight and security seals applied.Generally a couple of hours before departure the ground engineer opens one or more forward doors left side either from engineering steps or the jetty.regards Jim

  15. I have exactly the the same problems with trim / altimeter which occurs only when the throttles on the ch quadrant are passed the detent position and in idle.If this is your problem, move the throttles out of idle momentarily while trimming or changing altimeter settings.A cure it is not,but It works!Hope this helps
