ASE Thermals FS9
adamv66 replied to adamv66's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumThanks for your reply....Ok for example I get ASE running then set myself up at an airport in the sailplane and let ASE complete its initial weather depiction. I then go back to ASE under the options "thermals" tab and click "create new". I leave the base and upper alt at default (200+10200) and give it a good strength (1000fpm) and wide range (5) for max coverage area. then click apply/save. Go back into FS9 after a few moments to allow it to generate the thermal and slew up to saw 5000 feet and... nothing! No evidence of thermal activity at all... the sailplane just slowly descends.... Seems odd as I am getting the message "thermal generated:990fpm etc...." on the main screen but it does not seem to be implemented.

ASE Thermals FS9
Having some issues getting thermals to perform properly using ASE and FS9.... When I create a thermal manually in ASE I am getting no response or representation of the thermal in FS9... Tried creating some pretty big (1000fpm) thermals to check and the glider isn't responding at all. ASE is working fine in all other respects and I am seeing turbulence during my flights... I am also getting the messages "up/downdraught generated" and "thermal generated" as I fly along yet they just dont seem to be appearing in FS9.My wind settings all seem to be correct - both thermal sliders are set at 50% and 1000fpm for the up/downdraught sliders and I have got FSUIPC set to "weather settings off"....Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?

Strange Visual Issues...
Come to think of it, my last graphics card was an ATI X1600, but didnt see this problem then - so this can't be an issue with all ATI graphics cards?

Oh... bummer! Thanks for the reply anyway...

Strange Visual Issues...
Hi all,I've just installed FSX and the PMDG 747 onto my new system and I'm getting some strange distortions in the 2D cockpit. I've marked these in red on the attached screenshot. The only thing thats really changed from my old system that might affect it is my monitor resolution which is now 1366x768 and graphics card ATI HD4650. Is anyone else using this card or resolution successfully? I'm also running Vista 64bit.Something that seems a little odd is that all the errors seem to fall along diagonal lines across the screen. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?Adam

Fuel consumption
Hi Phil,So you're saying that the chart is basically wrong?I wonder if one of the PMDG developers would be able to provide the actual chart/algorithm that the aircraft was programmed with... I'm not a computer programmer but I'm guessing the queen must have been programmed to calculate how much fuel it would be using at a given configuration (weight/altitude/drag etc). If this algorithm/chart were provided we could prioduce our own, completely accurate, fuel burn tables....Adam

Fuel consumption
Hi,I'm dragging this thread up as I was just going to start a new post questioning the same thing.... (referring to page 10 of the "cruise and fuel planning" manual):How is it that in the example mentioned above fuel burn of 22000lb/hr is shown as the optimum over 20000lb/hr? It is not as a result of speed as another user posted, because M0.86 at FL360 provides exactly the same TAS as M0.86 at FL370. There might be 1 knot or so in it.... Theres no way a 2000lb/hr burn is offset by an extra knot of airpseed!Interestingly, I tested this out (600000lbs gross weight) and at FL370 and FL360 found that fuel burn was almost exactly the same (22000lbs/hr) Which leads me to question the accuracy of the figures in the table...Also the IAS/TAS column has some major discrepancies... It does not correlate to M0.86 (for example at FL360 M0.86 equates to 493/288 TAS/IAS, not 475/264) There's quite a discrepancy.... And I am using standard TAT. Which of these figures takes precedence?Does anyone know where this chart came from? Are these confirmed typo's?The only reason I'm being so particular is that after a few years of flying the queen I'm now trying to get my fuel planning figures SPOT ON. I feel that in FS we have the ability to MORE accurately plan our fuel burn than in the real world. We have no variables such as different burn rates for different aircraft or unexpected/unpredictable winds or having to fly different routes due to ATC/weather etc etc. The simulation performs exactly the same every time, so given the correct figures in the burn table theres no reason why we should not be able to predict our fuel burn precisely...Adam

sound issue?
Oh wow.... thanks for the quick reply!!! Pressing Q twice... why didnt I think of that??!! ok well i'm happy at least i know a workaround now for when it does occur.... many thanks!Adam

sound issue?
Also forgot to mention that this all relates to the 747X...

sound issue?
Hi...I'm going to try and drag this thread up as I am still seeing this behaviour after many months and despite full reinstalls of FSX and PMDG. I have sort of started to live with it although it still really bugs me! Has anyone else encountered the same? Any known possible causes??Many Thanks...Adam

Fly over waypoints?
In certain departure/approach procedures you are required to overfly a certain navaid before commencing a turn/proceeding towards the next waypoint...

Fly over waypoints?
How do you do it in the fmc?

Fly over waypoints?
Hi,I've always wondered if there's any way to specify certain waypoints in the FMC as FLYOVER rather than bypass, ie. not to start a turn until AFTER the aircraft has passed the waypoint? Many Thanks....Adam

747X Load manager
Hi,Something i've always wondered.... When loading cargo for the 747X PAX aircraft using the load manager - does it matter *where* it is loaded on the aircraft? (ie. which boxes) Or is this just a pictorial display of how *much* cargo is loaded and the load manager automatically positions the CofG?Many ThanksAdam

sound issue?
hi,did a quick search in the forum but couldn't see this issue mentioned before....occasionally (when switching views) a continuous max engine thrust sound can be heard regardless of what thrust the engines are actually at. as an example, if i am sitting at the gate with the engines shutdown, the sound will continue as if the engines were running! it happens whilst in the air too. i have found a workaround, which is to change the selection in the checkbox in the PMDG sounds menu (allow sounds to play in external views). if i do this then the sound stops. oddly, it doesnt matter whether i check the box or uncheck it, just as long as i change it from whta it is currently set to, the sound stops. has anyone else seen this?many thanks, adam

Virgin Atlantic Repaint
thanks for this!

Virgin Atlantic Repaint
Hi just a quick one....Any update on when the regular Virgin Atlantic livery for the 747X will be available? Only the special livery which is only on 1 aircraft is currently available....Many Thanks,Adam

options menu troubles
the problem has now returned! cant understand whats going on. i run a really clean installation with no add-ons or tweaks. is anyone else seeing this? its seriously annoying not being able to change any of the aircraft options!

Fire
so basically this failure does nothing? just places a warning on the EICAS?Adam
-
Fire
The failures option for fire/overheat detection systems for the engines does not appear to function correctly? if the fire detection system is failed in an engine and a fire subsequently occurs, the normal fire warnings are still displayed....Adam

options menu troubles
thanks liam. after a couple of re-installs and restarts the problem seems to have just gone away!

Thrust Limit Protection?
So i guess that means i'm the only lazy one who sometimes loads her up and blasts her off with absolutely no prep at all! haha! thanks vangelis Adam

Thrust Limit Protection?
Hi,I've noticed a change in behaviour of the thrust limit protection in the 747X compared to the FS9 version. In FS9, when simply loading up the 747 and applying full thrust (without setting up FMC or anything) the thrust will increase up to the TO limit but not exceed it. However now in FSX if you do the same thing and apply full thrust, it goes sailing past the TO limit to engine limits of greater than 117 N1. Is this intentional? I would have thought that the same thrust protection should apply to prevent damage to the engine etc?Adam
