  1. For offline flying, I highly recommend Pro-ATC/X and PF3.  They both have their pluses and minuses, and differ a bit.  Pro-ATC/X has the advantage of better voices/more realistic sounding as I notice some PF3 voices get rather robotic sounding.  The only thing I do not like about Pro-ATC/X is their choice of leaving out "Center" in the phrasing, such as "contact New York on ###.##" instead of "contact New York Center..."  Minor annoyance to me, as it is my choice at present.

Do some research and hope you enjoy your choice.

I am also interested in UT Live.  Looking mighty good.  Wonder how much impact it will have on my system.

    Cheers.

  2. Many people probably overlook the fact that P3D was not created and is not developed as an eye candy game for the general public to enjoy.   I don't believe LM cares what the general public consensus is about P3D.  They (LM) have a totally different mission/goal.  Therein lies the difference in further development.  Who cares that there are so many nay sayers out there in social media land trying to tear apart P3Dv4.  They have their right to free speech.  However, I take a stand when they come into the P3D forum and do so, with little to no consideration, no respect for where they are telling their tale.

Really, it is a shame that people will stoop so low.  It is so easy to hide behind a monitor and keyboard and blast away.  So many these days are self proclaimed subject matter experts because of the internet/world wide web.  I just don't get it.  Life is too short.  Flying a PMDG 737ngx/777 or 747 in P3D is just too much fun for me to see it their way.

So sad they try to take everyone else down to their level.

Or maybe they both are good for what they are. Maybe people who thinks the other sims looks bad just expresses a feeling, rather then looking at something from a developers view who know what it takes to create a sim with the current hardware and graphics engines. I like both sims for what they are. The only thing is the spending of addons that is scratching my head. Could also be a dedication thing that a dont see.

In my opinion, if you want the eye candy, XP10/11 are great.  However, if you want in depth study level a/c, great choice of 3rd party atc, weather, numerous airports and other addons, P3Dv3/4 is the way to go.  I don't know if XP will ever catch up to FSX/P3D as far as the level of addons are concerned.  If they do, it will be years before it happens.

I personally spend 75% of my flight time viewing the interior of an a/c, monitoring instrument gauges, panels, FMC, etc.  I am simulating flying an a/c.  You don't fly a real one from the outside (spot view), so I don't use spot view very often.  The external (spot type) views are less important to me than the vc view.

That's my take on it and why I'm here in the P3D forum.

  4. I am on the fence, but since DTG did not go outside the box and create a "new" sim (looks like a whole lot is straight from FSX code), can't get excited based on what they've done thus far.  It is not fair to claim "look how FSX was when it came out" as that was 11 years or so ago.  Also, look at the advances in pc hardware/software technology since 2006.  Just sayin.

This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

The key words here, "may or may not change further"  and "wait and see if the game progresses further" have me a bit concerned.  I just don't get them adding this to their comments hinting it may not progress any further than where it is now.  I'm sure they could/should have selected their wording better, at least from an optimistic stand point.

  6. Thanks, Richard.

I worked through the different posts and recommendations and got it working in FSX and P3D, using UT2 and Tootings (Pete King) super duper trafic package.  Guess I was making it seem more difficult that it really was.

There is a great tutorial in this forum on how to link P3D to the UT2 FSX installation. I used that setup for a long time until I rebuilt my system on a new computer with only P3D and no FSX.

    Richard

Richard,  if you happen to find the tutorial, please let me know.  I've been searching but not found it as of yet.  I have the general concept down, but would like to see the tutorial to be 100% accurate and hopefully error free.

Also, how do you set the ai density for P3D, because normally, the UT2 AI traffic density is controlled by the settings in the UT2 software, which would effect FSX but not P3D.  So in this case, would I set the standard P3D ai traffic slider?

    Thanks.

  8. I have downloaded Pete's updates, but I am trying to decide as per my question above, as that is a lot of work to get everything set up properly, and I want to forego that until I determine if I definitely want to go with UT2 again.  My question boils down to:  is using UT2+WOAI definitely better than using just WOAI?  An important point, also, is that I have both FSX and P3D installed.

I guess I could just install a single WOAI package and see how it goes, but that does not give insight on UT2 with FSX & P3D installed.  I'm simply looking for input from those who have been there/done that or have similar experiences.

  9. A few years ago, I installed UT2 and a variety of WOAI airline packages in FSX and had things working pretty well. After a pc crash about 1 1/2 years ago, I had to reinstall FSX and did not reinstall UT2/WOAI.  I am now flying all of my tubeliners (PMDG) in P3Dv3.3.5 and use FSX for GA flying (A2A, MilViz & RealAir).

I have been contemplating trying AI once again, but primarily in P3D flying the various flights for my VA.  The way I understand, the simplest method would be to install the AI into FSX and then copy over all the required files to P3D, since I have both sims installed.

Now for my main question, would it be recommended to use UT2 and WOAI or stick with just WOAI for the trial?

The deluded self-appointed "serious" simmer who presents himself in opposition to the inferior masses of "gamers", has to be one of the funniest characters in the flight sim community...

Hardly the case and unless you can point out how someone posting here is "in opposition to the inferior masses of "gamers",", I believe your comment to be in a condescending manner.  Unless I am reading into your post.

Do you consider yourself a "serious simmer" or just a casual simmer?  I am a serious flight simmer.  I get very involved with flight planning, prepping, preflight, use GSX to load fuel, pax, etc., use real weather and PMDG's great a/c, along with detailed addon scenery.  It is what I like to do.  I do not put down the "inferior masses of gamers".  My take is, to each, their own.

  11. James,

There are a total of 14 available STAR's for KORD from the most recent cycle - 1705.  Don't be surprised if some of the STAR's don't show up when you select a runway as some STAR's will be runway or approach direction dependent.  I hope explained it well enough to not confuse you.
