  1. What about this one, does it suit my requirements?Look carefully, is it a decent system? :( (I'm not sure if the link will work correctly - the video card for instance is a Zotac GTX 260 etc. and there should be 6 items totalling
  2. Right, cheers all, there's definitely a lot to investigate! The search continues!...(At the moment, i'm sort of leaning to building my own system from scratch)
  3. OK guys, bringing this ageing topic to the front again... :( Found this fairly decent system and as far as I'm concerned, as long as I can get on average about 20fps, never going much lower than 9fps in FS9, with sliders more near the right than the left, and most check-boxes ticked, then that'll do me fine. Do you lot think this is achievable with the above PC, with several high-quality AI, scenery, weather and airport ad-dons installed? And, considering this system...: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3Processor: Intel® Core2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs)Memory: 1022MB RAMGraphics card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE... can run FS9 at a fairly constant 19fps +/- 2/3fps around EGLL with virtually all max. settings, (and SSTSIM Concorde, with dense/very dense scenery & traffic) then I am sure this one I've found will do a just as good, if not better job. (FS9 can't stay on this PC for useage reasons)Any ideas? Bare in mind the price of this one is pushing my budget a bit. :( Cheers
  4. Right, thanks Mark,I'll take your word for it. That PC does look pretty good, a bit pricey but as I say, I want a long term investment. I'll make a decision/part decision and let you know! :( Anyway, looks like I'm gonna have to leave my original choice well alone! :( Thanks
  5. sigh... Would people seriously not buy from this one? (my initial choice) :( I'm sure they must have sold before and people been happy with their systems, after all their customer service enquiry response is pretty swift... :( I want this to be right, but if too many people agree with TechguyMaxC (I'm not patronising anyone, I respect all your opinions entirely... otherwise I'd have bought that PC already) then I will have to look at a more expensive one more seriously. :( It's just it took me so long to find this one.Cheers
  6. OK, thanks Mark, i'll have a look and post back in due course :(
  7. No problem. Much more importantly, thanks for all your help! :( I'll post if any thing changes but hopefully it won't! :( Cheers again guys.PS: What would we do without Avsim? - I'm glad we have almost really kicked that 'hacker' up the a**e! What a t**t! :(
  8. OK guys, After some mucking around with REP, FS Sky World, and MSFS skies and clouds in general, I have come to a conclusion:The sky itself seems to directly affect the cloud colour, as when I reinstalled the default cloud/sky textures, the result was the rather lame default sky, clouds and all, and then when I replaced the default sky textures with ONLY Real Environment Pro's sky textures, the colour of the clouds changed dramatically. ONLY the colour. They were still the default clouds with exactly the same structure/detail, but they just had changed colour to having a very obvious blue tint when above them. I then removed REP's sky textures, and, abracadabra, the default cloud colour returned... Correct me if I am wrong? :( So... I installed FS Sky World's sky textures and upgraded the clouds, and low and behold, they were as white as snow, and grey as... well, a grey cloud. No blue! I'm pretty happy with that! Horray! :( If you want i'll show you a screenshot (in similar conditions to the one for which I posted my problem)? Hmm, good suggestion DieselTen, I think my visibility is unlimited, but how would reducing it change the cloud colour? B) I'll investigate it, as I would be fine with REP's sky, if it weren't for what they do to my default clouds... :( Cheers
  9. Great site TechguyMaxC! How does this one look? Which is better: AMD, or Intel; for MSFS and gaming in general (as well as reasonably decent amounts of internet use and quite a bit of varying work)?I really want this to be a long term, upgradable investment...
  10. Right, :( that's given me a lot to think about, i'll post back with some new ideas soon.PS: flyhalf, you have Windows 7?!
  11. OK, thanks onurksn, i'll have a look in the library when it is back up, or over at flightsim. Today at some point I am going to play around with REP and FS Sky World and see if I can get better sky and cloud textures, without the water saturated clouds! :( But you know... I don't remember adding any clouds in, ever, and although it was a long time ago, the default ones, i'm sure changed after REP...? Maybe not? :( Anyway, i'll look into it, and hopefully post back later today or tommorow - either way there'll be no more blue clouds!Cheers
  12. ... right, that burst my bubble! :( Is it still a good system though that fits my needs, ignoring the graphics card, and seller? I'll look elsewhere too, but I do think this looks good. Can you suggest a good place (not too expensive please!!!) to buy one similar?
  13. Cool, thanks Onurksn,I've started from scratch today putting the default clouds back in (from FS Sky World) and am going to go from there. :( I could have sworn that REP didn't have clouds, but apparently I am wrong... :( I'll see if I can see a change with onurksn's cfg file. Cheers everyone and i'll keep you posted.More suggestions would be appreciated still!
  14. Hey guys, I have looked around for a similar post but not found anything I wanted, besides, I want to know if this exact system will be able to fly primarily FS9 with brilliant frames (anything above 20, for me) and FSX with good frames, and stutters unnoticeable, with all the bells and whistles and sliders at least at a good looking level...I am trying to replace my current old (Windows 98!!!), slow, noisy, rusty and generally quite crap system for a brand spanking new one and this one fits the bill pretty well, especially at this price! :( What do you think? Here's their intro to it, with some specs:"Envizage present this brand new custom built AMD Phenom Quad Core 9950 (4 x 2.6Ghz Cores = 10.4Ghz) PC base unit complete with onboard ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics with up to 512mb of memory and support for ATI Hybrid Crossfire, 8GB of DDR2 800Mhz Memory, 22x CD & DVD re-writer drive, 500gb SATA 2 hard drive." The link to the product page.I know the video card is a little questionable but that can be sorted out, what about everything else? Would it, for instance, be able to run a PMDG 747 at Heathrow with MyTraffic/Ultimate Traffic with AI at 100%, UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme scenery, Active Sky, Ultimate Terrain and Flight Environment plus more (the latest addons) (...phew!), and still have reasonably smooth frames (15 or above - below that is where I personally notice) so I could land manually easily, and still see the runway whizzing past without it's motion breaking up? And what about FSX with all the similar bells and whistles, let alone out of the box? I would be ecstatic if it did - i'm fed up with trembling frames where ever I go! :( What about the future - will it last and be able to uphold good gameplay on future editions of MSFS (if there will be) and other intense shooter games released, with or without upgrades? It'd be great if I could have some feedback on this one guys, so I can become a hard-core pilot. :( Thanks a lot in advance!
  15. Cheers for the reply jfri.Yep, the white circle is the highlight, the rest of the picture is a bit darker than normal, the highlight is normal brightness, and the clouds in it are especially blue, I think they should be a dark grey colour, and on the other clouds, where their underside and edging is blue, they should be grey similarly... apparently not! :( I'll have a look into the suneffect file, that's the only thing I can think of right now...How did you jfri fix your red cloud problem?
  16. ... any ideas on this one?Any sort of help would be much appreciated...
  17. Hey guys,Apologies if this has been posted similarly some where else, I have checked quickly but couldn't find anything.I was flying the other day and decided to take a snap of my new (first ever) repaint. I normally do not like to fly with too many clouds but I wanted to for dome variation in screenshots.I have seen this weird blue cloud thing before but have not been bothered until now:You will see in the highlighted area is where they look most blue, but the others also look blue, especially noticeable when flying above and overcast layer (less noticeable beneath clouds, strangely). :( The only ad-dons I have now are Real Environment Professional and Airport Environment Upgrade, does REP supply cloud textures? I think it doesn't, and after putting the default FS9 clouds from the CD back into the folder on the hard-drive, just to be sure, my conclusion is that it is the suneffect file, which supplies a blue-ish halo around the sun... is this sensible? Is it something completely different? What does anyone else think, because those clouds sure as hell aren't the default ones (which are only better because of the colouring). :( Hope there is some ideas on this one.Cheers.
  18. Hey guys, I've just got FS Panel Studio, for the primary reason that I want to edit a gauge to get the colour right for the panel I want to install it on (the brilliant gauge can be obtained free here from the library). The original colour is a dark Boeing brown, the colour I want is a light grey colour. By editing the bitmaps I got the 'day' colour matching very well with the rest of the panel. I then edited what I thought was the 'night' bitmap by obviously making it a lot darker, and when I went to test it, in the day the colour match with the rest of the panel was perfect, but at night it was totally out. :( At night it simply maintained the 'day' colour and looked weird amongst the other gauges. So clearly there is no changing between the two bitmaps. I am a beginner at this and am doing it for my own pleasure only. Hopefully you can understand all this... :( I know that the FS panel bitmaps have only one 'day' texture and the 'night' effect is applied with some colour parameters in the .cfg file. So my question is: is this a built in aspect of the gauge and if so how do i change it? Can I get rid of the bitmaps altogether to get rid of the gauge surround? Can I do this in FS Panel Studio? Don't hesitate to ask what the gauge and panel is if necessary - i just didn't want to upset anyone.EDIT: My apoligies, I perhaps put this post in the wrong forum, please move it if neccesary. Thanks in advance.
  19. OK, looks like I've got to spare a whole afternoon soon cleaning it all up and sorting it all out - at least I'll know it will actually work though! I'll keep you posted.
  20. Cool, thanks Opa, It was very strange with Gauge Explorer, but anyway, I'll try that method I mentioned and do it within the next week or so and post back what happens in due course. Hopefully it won't be too laborious as I don't have that many add-on aircraft, as I can't really afford most of the payware ones (tight for money at the moment, being young and all) and I'm a bit of a perfectionist with freeware choices! :( See you soon.Cheers. Christ! Are you serious?! I better go fly now and see what happens!
  21. OK, Opa, something very strange happened after that suggestion of Gauge explorer... I installed it and everything and I looked at all my gauges and almost all of them were 'dead'. When I went to move them so I could check all was OK with the one's left, the process seemed fairly normal and OK, until I checked the gauges folder, and they were all still there... in the backup folder which I had specified for the moving of the gauges, nothing! I tried it again, and nothing happened... although the application suggested so... Strange, I reinstalled, installed in a different place and the same result, nothing, I couldn't delete them either. Odd. :( I think this might be because I run FS9 on a 98 pc? I have no idea why this didn't work, so, I have another solution, if I- deleted the entire FS9 gauge file, backing up my personally modified gauges, and then - put back the default FS9 gauges from the CD, and then - found the gauges of all my old FS9 add-on aircraft (by partly 'reinstalling' them),- put the add-on a/c gauges in their panel folders, and - putting the shared gauges in the FS9 Gauges folderwould this be a reliable, if crude method? Thanks.
  22. Thanks Opa, i'll look into this now :(
  23. Hey guys, Firstly, my apologies if a similar topic to this has been posted elsewhere, I did do some searching but I couldn't find it anywhere and I'm in a bit of a hurry, nevertheless I am sure someone can help me. I am just about to do a clean-up of my FS9 folder and over the months I have gained quite a few left over gauges from deleted aircraft which I no longer wanted for whatever reason. The gauges actually take up a significant amount of hard drive space on the rather small hard drive I have, so I want to get rid of all these unused gauges. I have tried a couple of cleaning programs before, but they all came back with different gauges that could be deleted safely - some of them I know were used in several panels! :( This was not helpful and so I did not pursue it anymore. Now the need has come round again and I seek a reliable piece of software that simply gets rid of all the gauges (including .CAB, .XML and shared files) that aren't used at all in ANY panel. I would absolutely love a program that does this (preferably for free), and I would love the person that suggests it to me! :( Hope there are some answers out there somewhere and once again apologies if this has been posted elsewhere.Cheers.
