  1. OP post is right. In Dovetails latest build: None Steam FSX is re-directed to Dovetails server when checking in registry if FSX is activated and then tries to find Steam FSX. If not present on your PC it forces you to download Dovetail FSX. It also prevents FSX.exe to open again in the future as it puts some sort of lock on. Therefore rendering none steam FSX useless. You need to purchase Dovetails FSX in order to fix this issue. I made that up......
  2. That cracked me up Jim. But you are right. Turning stuff of in Bios when they supposed to be on will open a can of worms.....
  3. That makes me think if SID is overrated in the simmers world. I commuted last year almost every week between Gatwick and Hamburg. I could swear that many times the plane made a slight turn or went straight towards Kent and the channel. Sometimes it did several turns before it flew straight on.
  4. DC-9 from Coolsky is very nice. Good old school VI flying....
  5. I like to know too. I am planning to buy a good ATC program. Heard good things about Radar Contact and Pro ATC X apparently is now coming along nicely. i like to add to the OP which combo is best with a crew program aka FS2Crew or MCE ? Cheers
  6. MS FSX no SE is smooth and frame rates are high. However with FSX SE I suspect that when you are install Orbx, UTX, REX etc etc it will eventually become slower since Dovetail has not rewritten the original source code.
  7. Well said +1. I bought FSX SE but will use it with my next Windows 10 install. Then goodbye FSX DVD.
  8. I am astonished on how many people are confused about FSX and steam. FSX SE is still the same simulator. Nothing will be arcade like etc. Third party developer's need to update their installers. I have a lot of old games on steam which were on DVD's before. They are running fine and many with community mods.
  9. My brain is not working today....Went out for xmas party last night. YES YES I buy it !!! You got me convinced.
  10. Will not buy it until all addons work with Steam FSX Edition.
  11. ASN all the way. I am using Opusfsx for cameras only. However I did do a comparison and Opus still has cloud popping and wind sheer issues.ASN is smooth spectacular and gives a real weather feel.
  12. My god I never actually looked at the prices in the pub or it never occurred to me how much a pint cost. I just buy them and drink...... I thought there are the same as at Sainsbury's. When you buy a pint there. That's very funny....
  13. 6£ pounds more to pay. That is equivalent to roughly 3 pints of finest ale. Mmmmh.... if I drink only two pints a month for the next 3 months saving one...I can buy the airport. Done deal. Airport bought.
  14. ASN is superior to Opus. I own both. Never looked back to Opus.
  15. I don't think it has anything to do with stock FSX ATC. It handles collisions very well. I crashed twice mid-air. And prior to the collisions FSX ATC informed me several times of the approaching aircraft. I ignored ATC warnings because I thought that FSX ATC is rubbish but seconds later....bang
  16. Are you part of the scam ? Reading your name name and number of posts. Mmmh.......
  17. I forgot.....Must be old age. I am using ASN and OpusFSx 3.40 for live camera. I noticed that my Thrustmaster, Saitek pedals are not recognised by FSX once my flight has started. I mean being at the gate and ready for pushback. That happened after I installed ASN. However after uninstall and re install and trial and error. I found that Opus live camera has something to do with it. 1. If your controls are disconnected. Open Opus camera panel and just save all cameras again. This seem to work. But not always with latest OpusFSX This finally resolved the issue for me: Start TrackIR Start OpusFSX Start ASN Start FSX I used to start Opus and ASN once my flight was ready at the gate. I have done now many flight in the last two weeks and not a single problem with my controller. I had never problem with Opus prior 3.40. However we all know what FSX is like. This could be a combination of many factors for some users.
  18. I had the same problem and blamed ASN. I was wrong. In my case it had nothing to do with ASN. OpusFSX which I use for live camera was to blame. I found a work around and did not had problems since.
  19. If you use OpusFSX 3.40 that might be the problem. I found that out the hard way after endless testing and googlin. I found a work around. Open the camera options in opus then close it again and controllers are back. If you don't use Opus, then....... Who knows.
  20. I am using Opus for over a year now. Before Opus, AS2012 was my weather application. I tried ASN - bought the upgrade- for couple of weeks now. I am back with Opus for now. Thats what I like about ASN: I like the smooth weather changes Almost to none cloud popups Easy to use interface Weather accuracy is the same as Opus, both programs give me sometimes the wrong weather predictions. I dont like Turbulences needs to be tweaked - How many turbulences are there during a flight ? ASN is more like a turbulence simulator than weather program.... Sometimes ASN displays strange cloud formations - Although I read that the devs a aware of this bug and working on a fix. Why did I go back to Opus ? FSX freezes/stop working with ASN after a certain amount of time into my flight. I know this might be my pc/fsx setup but still it should not happen. Opus has its flaws like there are still abrupt wind shifts although not that frequent anymore. Weather and cloud changes are not that smooth as ASN. But Opus gives me a stable simulation. Once ASN has been tweaked and hopefully receives an SP I am happy to try ASN again.
  21. I am software enginer myself. I did a aircraft representation in C# 4.0 once. Just to learn the language syntax. Doing an Aircraft is a good learning experience specially when to use OO. An aircraft is programmers heaven for me anyways. You can have an Aircraft abstract class for example which shares common features. from that you can inherent other aircraft classes. Because in real world you have Planes, helicopters. Cargo planes etc. They share common features(Methods) but also have unique functionalities. I would model aircraft systems separately like batteries, APU etc. the possibilities are endless. And if you really want be on fire. Have a look if you can apply any design patterns to your project. It is all good learning experience and fun. You can do it all simple in some spaghetti code but bad practice and the learning effect is not great. Good luck with your course.
  22. I totally agree. At the end it is what you are most comfortable with. I am no real pilot. I would not know the difference flying with ASN or Opus compare to real situations. I will only notice cloud, graphical abnormalities or rapid wind shifts etc or wrong weather display on my pc. If one weather program gives me those errors frequently then I would consider buying another one. However with all the competitions in wx at the moment. I think ASN, Opus or FSGRW are of good quality and get better and better.
  23. Can I be the first Opus Defender ? I AM DEFENDING OPUS !!!! Hurray ! I am now the first Opus defender
  24. Thank you. Lets see if ASN can pull me away from Opus......
