Can someone help me with setting up the tiller function in P3Dv4? I have a registered copy of FSUPIC.

    Regards,

    Stephen

With P3DV4 you won't need FSUIPC for this.  Under Options - Controls - Axis Assignments in P3DV4, the second event from the top should be called "Axis Steering Set".  Assign this to a controller axis and you're away (on my rig, it's assigned to a lever on my CH Throttle Quadrant).  You may need to play with the sensitivity and possibly reverse the axis, that should be all.  Hope this helps.

  2. I don't know if this helps, because I don't work directly from the SDK (wouldn't know how 😏).  I use Lua plug-ins that send ipc controls and/or Local Gauge Variables to the sim via FSUIPC.  Depending on which button is pressed, the ipc control sequences are gear unlock-up, gear unlock-off and gear unlock-down, which probably correspond to the parameters 0, 1 and 2 in the SDK but that's beyond me.  All I'm saying, is that it can be done and the PMDG NGX definitely supports gear lever commands.

  3. Hi Henning,

Similar to Claus except that I use Lua plug-ins to call those controls from my home-built "functional MCP" through FSUIPC.  I show the controls and their parameters below as I programmed them in the Lua plug-in but it will give you the numbers.

    For Captain's course selector :

    Increase (clockwise) : ipc.control(70008, 16384)

    Decrease (anti-clockwise) : ipc.control(70008, 8192)

For First Officer's course selector :

    Increase (clockwise) : ipc.control(70041, 16384)

    Decrease (anti-clockwise) : ipc.control(70041, 8192)

    Heading increase (clockwise) : ipc.control(70022, 16384)

    Heading decrease (anti-clockwise) : ipc.control(70022, 8192)

    Hope this helps.

  4. I posted the following in the official P3D forum some three weeks ago but received no replies from anyone there.  As the issue I encountered, arose after installing the PMDG 737NG, I'm now posting it here just in case someone can enlighten me. Sorry it's a bit verbose :

I recently installed P3DV4.3 from scratch. My flightsim PC runs Windows 7 64 bit, which has also been recently installed on a newly formatted SSD. Sofar the only add-ons I had installed, were the most recent versions of FSUIPC and EZCA, no add-on scenery, no add-on aircraft. P3D4.3 ran fine sofar, no warnings or other issues.

But then I installed my first add-on aircraft : the PMDG 737NG (base pack only sofar, no add-on liveries, freshly downloaded from the PMDG store). Since that install, each time while P3D is loading, a window titled "SimConnect Diagnostic Output" opens with the following message :
    0.00000 SimConnect version 4.3.0.0
Unable to read VR Path Registry from C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\openvr\openvrpaths.vrpath

P3D appears to run OK, the 737NG loads OK. The above window closes when I shut down P3D.  But what does this message mean and more importantly, should I be concerned about it and if so, how could it be fixed ?

Thanks a lot for any explanations or suggestions.

If you are flying fsx you may find it is better to fly with outdated data as it corresponds more with the in sim coded data.  Using the latest data gives a variety of problems.

Hmmm...  I have had a subscription to Navigraph for years.  Using current nav data at all times has not caused me any FSX problems whatsoever.  In my case, most of my FSX flights are online with VATSIM.  Therefore having the latest nav data is imperative, otherwise I would often be unable to comply with ATC instructions e.g. when being assigned a specific SID or STAR since those change periodically.

I would be interested to learn what "variety of problems" are associated with using current nav data.  The only one that springs to mind, is possibly the odd runway or ILS alignment.  But if that is the case, wouldn't then using the in-sim coded data cause problems with add-on scenery where such alignment is reflected in current nav data ?

  6. Hope it's not against Forum rules to post this here as it contains a link to a different forum.  I'm trying to help people, but don't want to fall foul of Forum rules either.  So if it's not allowed, the moderator can remove it.

Nick Needham also posted a guide to Nvidia Inspector for FSX in Simforums on 19 September 2010.  I saved it offline and have referred to it several times since when updating my system or the Nvidia drivers.  It's for an older version of the Inspector, of course (V1.9.3.2) but many of the settings still apply.  The post on that forum is still there, has been updated in 2014, AND includes the screenshots that can't be found in AVSIM forums any longer.  Here is the link : http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsx-cfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html

In version 1.9.7.3 (the one currently on my system), you type "Microsoft Flight Simulator 10" in the drop-down box.  Hope this helps someone.

  7. Hi Wes, I regularly travel on Air New Zealand between Auckland and Christchurch or Wellington and once or twice found myself on ZK-OAB which (despite it being an airbus) looks pretty spectacular.  Looking forward to your new livery for the NGX (I fly it in FSX) - especially if you'll be doing a 800W - and thanks a lot in advance

  8. (If this is in the wrong place please do move it!)

I don't post much, but I have to say, the new PMDG 777 course from Airline2Sim is simply fantastic. I loved their Q400 series, but the production quality and the level that this training is pitched at feels even better than before. For me, it never seems overly complex or confusing and has a decent amount of dry British humour (sorry Americans!).

Hi Philip, I didn't even know about the existence of this course but will certainly check it out.  I've become reasonably proficient with the NGX, but would like to reach a similar level with the 777.  And I'm on Summer holiday, so have a little bit of time available.  And being a New Zealander, I much prefer the British accent and humour as well  .

Thanks Emile. Also, I believe I stumbled on another location. I went to Init Ref/Index/Nav Data and key in the VOR name on the right top, it produces the VOR data, including the freq.

Just shows that even a blind squirrel finds a nut on occasion. :)

    Rick Messier

Ah, good one !  I'll remember that.

  10. Hi Rick,

I don't know if this is the "official" way, but try this :

    Go to the FIX page.

Enter the VOR's ID into the scratchpad.

    Press LSK1L.

You should see a list with all navaids with that particular ID that are in the FMS database (there may be more than one page).

For each of these navaids, the list will include a line with the type and the name in small caps, and a second line with the frequency and lat/lon coordinates in large caps.

The top entry on the list will be the navaid with that ID that is closest to your aircraft's position, etc. So if you are trying to find the frequency of a distant VOR, it may not be the first entry on the list - for example, there may be an NDB with that ID that is closer and that will be the first entry in the list.

Hope this helps.  BTW I could not find this info in the manuals either, so either it's not there or in an obscure location, or we both need new spectacles  .

  11. Hi folks,

I have just the question you can see above. I would like to assign the two IRS knobs on the aft overhead panel (ALIGN NAV ATT) to my GoFlight hardware (GF-RP48) by key commands, as I did for other payware aircraft. I am wondering, if PMDG offers key commands for this in addition to those provided via the CDU's Menu. And if so, is there a listing of all key commands available?

Any help would be highly appreciated!

    Claus

    ILS-Junkie

    Hi Claus,

I'm not aware of any PMDG-provided key commands additional to the ones that can be used via the CDU.  You would have to do that in an indirect way but it can be done.  Both my home-built "functional" MCP and EICAS button boxes send emulated key commands to FSX.  FSUIPC uses those to send commands to the NGX, including a number of functions that are not provided in the CDU.  These are contained in a couple of Lua plug-ins that I wrote (through following examples and trial-and-error).  You'd need the registered version of FSUIPC for this.  I think it's possible to come up with something that would work for what you need.  Going into detail here would lead us OT, but feel free to PM me if you like.

  12. Since 'A' and 'S' keys were disabled by EZdok, what is the best way to set EZdok for a wing view from inside the cabin?  I know I can right-click, then aircraft, then left/right over wing view, but how can I do that, if possible, via EZdok?  I've tried to 'make' the views and save them within EZdok, but the results aren't what I was hoping for.

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

I use EZDOK as well, and ran into the same problem some time ago.  From your subsequent post in this thread, I understand that you have found a solution.  Would you mind sharing it here ?  Thanks a lot.

  13. I am trying to set the cabin pressure in the PMDG 737 with a rotary encoder, I have no problem increasing the cabin pressure  in increments of 500 when I turn the rotary shaft clockwise. When I turn the shaft counterclockwise it continues to increase the cabin pressure, How can I get it to decrease? I've tried different parameter combinations without success..

    Flightman49

I found the following commands in the PMDG 737NGX LUA module of Günter Steiner's wonderful creation LINDA that may be of use (depending on what sort of commands your rotary encoder generates) :

"ipc.control(69850, 16384)" (minus the quotes) looks like INcreasing the cruise altitude setting (assuming this is what you mean by "cabin pressure"), by the looks of it in 500 ft increments.

"ipc.control(69850, 8192)" looks like DEcreasing the cruise altitude setting, by the looks of it in 500 ft decrements.

Hope this helps.  I don't actually use LINDA to operate buttons - for that I use FSUIPC - but I have found the contents of LINDA modules a huge help in setting up my own modest rig, both for PMDG's 737NGX and 777.

  14. Whenever I try to run the PMDG-737 I get the above message and have to quit FSX.

I had to format my hard drive and reinstall all program and wonder:

Should I use the default directory for FSX ? And which one for the PMDG-737 ?

Can anybody think of what else I should do or check ?

    Thank you

    HubertWerni

    Hey Hubert,

Until someone with more knowledge (which is most of them  ) jumps in : there can be a whole host of reasons for this to happen.  But I do know that installing FSX in the default folder as suggested by Micro$oft is not recommended.  Evidently this can lead to problems with add-ons being unable to write files to the disk.  You should instead choose a different folder, e.g. C:\FSX, when the FSX installer asks you where you want the program installed.  If the folder of your choice does not exist, the installer will create it.  The location of the FSX folder will be recorded in the Windows registry.  Then when you go to install add-ons such as the PMDG 737 NGX, their installers should find that location and put their files where they should be without you needing to do anything.  It's not much, but I hope this helps.

  15. Not sure of the market for EINN, Nice for short-hops from Dublin, but NZAA has nothing as yet.

    Hey Jude,

Sorry, couldn't resist that but I'm sure I'm not the first one to do this to you   Don't know if you are aware of this, but the Orbx New Zealand North Island scenery includes quite a nice rendition of NZAA, which may do the trick for now.  It doesn't come cheap but it's very good quality and for your money you'd get the entire North Island too.  However I would also hope that FlyTampa comes to the rescue.  I've already got their Dubai, Sydney and Kai Tak sceneries which IMHO are superb quality.

  16. Just a guess: since recent versions of the NGX (and the 777) are designed to install into Steam as well as the boxed version, maybe the NGX creates that folder to install the tutorial #2 files -- if there is no Steam version (or Steam is the only version), they just sit there. Looking at my own, dual installation, I do have the NGX tutorial #2 files in my steam documents folder, but none for the 777 (since there are no flight setup files for the 777 tutorial).

You could try renaming the folder and see if everything still works OK with the NGX.

Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback.  That would explain it.  Will have a try at that over the weekend, just out of interest.

  17. In a single FSX Steam install I don't think you should have a folder called "...\Documents\Flight Simulator X - Steam Edition Files". That should only be there if you have a dual install.

    Hey Mike,

Can I just confuse the issue a bit ?  On my PC I have a \Documents\Flight Simulator X - Steam Edition Files\ folder, created August last year.  And I haven't got (or ever had) FSX SE : only FSX Acceleration boxed edition, which I installed two years ago on my then brand-new PC !  This "steam folder" only contains the flights associated with the NGX Tutorial #2, all dated 22/02/2012.  Any more recent files - even the WX.PLN file that some posters are having issues with - are in the \Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\ folder as I would expect (the Tutorial #2 files are also there).  Absolutely no idea what would have created the folder for Steam Edition files...

  18. Hi Mark,

I only came across your app a few days ago - and it made my jaw drop ! :good: Purchased it for both PMDG jets yesterday (goodness me : a glass of wine at an average local restaurant would cost me more than a license for this superb add-on) and got it up & running immediately on my Windows 10 tablet.

For years I've been using a redundant B737 classic training CDU, connected to a keyboard emulator, as part of my modest home cockpit.  It has served me very well but had the drawback that it didn't have a working screen so I'd still have to watch the sim CDU while pressing  buttons.  No need for that now.  Brilliant !  Hopefully Microsoft will come to the party one day with a facility to run your CDU as a webapp in Windows 10 - currently running it as a Firefox pinned tab and just putting up with the menu & tool bars at the top.  It helps a lot that the CDU can be swiped to close enough to full screen size for now.

Thanks very much for this most excellent realism enhancer :Applause:

  19. Hi Emile,

    Thanks for that swift answer.

I will try the first option consisting of inserting the lua dynamic friction in each aircraft profile rather than the restore friction item.

Anyway, loading complex add-ons on top over of each other without restarting fsx is not advised.

    Hi Romain,

If you always restart FSX before loading another complex add-on aircraft, you certainly won't need RestoreFriction.lua in this context.  But it is possible to safely load another complex add-on aircraft within the same FSX session, as long as you first load an FSX default aircraft (e.g. the ultralight) and then the next complex add-on.  I do that at times, but only when I'm testing, not if I want to actually fly.  So perhaps I should not have mentioned the RestoreFriction plug-in at all, sorry.

  20. Hi Romain,

Is it working if I add it in the aircrafts sections with an [AUTO.XXXX] instead of [AUTO] for all the aircrafts?

EB : Yes that should work.  In FSUIPC.INI, add it only to the [AUTO.xxxx] sections for the aircraft that you want to use it with (and leave it out of the "general" [AUTO] section).  If you have separate profile files for each aircraft (in your \MODULES\PROFILES folder), add it to the [AUTO] section in the profile file for each aircraft that you want to use it with.

And if I do that, do I need to add also the [LUAFiles] section in each aircraft section or can I leave it at the end of the INI?

EB : No you only need to list the plug-in once under [LUAFiles] in FSUIPC.INI.  If you have separate profile files for each aircraft, the same applies since these files do not have a [LUAFiles] section.

And another thing to think about : you may want to add the RestoreFriction LUA plug-in to the [AUTOxxxx] section in FSUIPC.INI (or to the [AUTO] section in the separate profile file) for any aircraft that you do NOT want the dynamic friction to apply to.  I am not entirely sure about this but I seem to remember reading a comment somewhere that if you have been working with a "dynamic friction aircraft", then load a "normal friction aircraft" without leaving FSX, the dynamic friction values will remain active which would not be what you want.  I stand to be corrected though.

    Hope this helps.

  21. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself as a new member on this forum. I have a lot to learn and I might have a question now and again. Most are alread asked and answered when googled but I might come accross something unique.

Lastly, it would be interesting to fly with someone else i the future. I need to learn a bit more about the aircraft ++ but then I would be ready to do a joined flight on vatsim.

    Happy flying!

    Jan

    Hi Jan,

    Welcome !

Agree with your sentiment re the default aircraft.  I've been flying only add-on aircraft since FS2002.

There's a lot you can learn from the folk here.  I have often enough found answers to problems, by searching the forum or, if no luck that way, by asking.  Good choice to join :Applause:
