  1. Well, whether you folks like the livery paint or not, I do hope some of you at least enjoyed the screenshots I took, after all, thats why I posted it, to share them with the FS community. I took these shots in the very early hours of the morning, shortly after DL the livery, I should have been sleeping but I just had to try out this long awaited 1st UHDT paint job. I personally very much enjoy and admire the livery paint as a whole (texture, specular, bump mapping etc), This beauty kept me up till @5am in the morning, I cannot remember last time doing that (I do remember spending nearly an entire day on FSX after REX was released but thankfully that was during the day).Anyways, I put in a considerable effort and several hours making & posting these screenshots for others to see, so if you can either enjoy or at the very least respect the maker of these screenshots, perhaps one could approach the makers of the livery with the same attitude or any other artist/programmer/contributer to the FS community, whether you like their product or not, it is still breathing more life into FSX.My 2cs,Cheers
  2. You are right, I stand corrected, normally movie broadcast or DVD in the UK is at 25 fps, true Bluray display using HDMI 1.3 and an appropriate HDTV should show 24p, so 24 frames per second to be accurate what you see in the cinema. However, I can still switch on the Motionflow 100Hz on my sony and it will still double the frames, it does not judder but it does look like the movie was captures on a hand camera, in other words, very odd. Now the beauty of the Motionflow 100Hz is that is work pretty much on any signal coming into the TV especially via HDMI, so my Xbox360 and PC signals can be doubles using this Motionflow, which makes watching any game or indeed FSX look a lot smoother :( Here's the techie specs:MotionFlow + 100HZ: Conventional LCD televisions show 50 pictures (frames) per second (50Hz). 3. Thank you 737best, I am pleased these shots where enjoyed by you and I always appreciate a compliment no matter how many times I hear it. It makes the time and effort I put into making & posting these shots worth it. Now as for my PC, I use an Intel E8600 @4Ghz, 4GB oc'd RAM, 500Gb HD with Vista 64 & FSX installed using regular Defrags to keep file loading to max, ATI 4870x2, ATIs are not as good as Nvidia when it comes to FSX, mainly due to poor heavy cloud handling but ATI does have better mip mapping, I find the texture quality a little better then Nvidia, esp when it comes to REX & UHDT 4096 textures. All in all, CPU power is what is key in FSX, alas FSX is poorly optimised and it makes no real use of multicore processors, so owning the more expensive I7 at lets say the same 4Ghz as mine, won't make any difference. So your best bet is to find the cheapest CPU that you can highly overclock, the higher the Ghz, the more you can do in FSX. Ah i see Word Not Allowed, well I often tend to randomise both my sky & cloud settings in REX, so everytime I load up FSX, I get to see something a little different. However, I do tend to have a few favorite settings, I like using dark blue skies for day use, I find it give better clarity on taking cloud shots, skies like blueberry, high flyer, True Blue, Supercell thunderstorm etc, as for clouds, I do like most of the Thunderstorm clouds. However, I recently spend some time going through all their HD clouds, and depending on what angle you view it from, they are all spectacular. As for hardware, you can see in the above reply my PC specs and a few comments on what, in my experience, makes FSX run well. FSX itself is rather old now, and until the recent REX, UHDT and several highly detailed photoreal sceneries, the GFX card you had did not play a big role in making FSX run better, it is mainly down to CPU power. However, now that we are seeing higher and better detailed textures and more complex models, the reason for having a better GFX does indeed make a difference in FSX. Now as you may or may not know, FPS is pretty irrelevant in FSX, as is the FPS counter in FSX itself (did you know it gives pretty bogus and inaccurate readouts), it is mainly down to smooth flying. For instance, most people using FSX will find their FPS often being very very inconsistent, they may get @100fps at some stage but often get stutters then bring it down to @5-10 FPS, this is often true for multicore GFX cards or Sli/Crossfire. There are many many reasons why FSX may stutter, even with a awesome PC. When I build my PC, I decide to take the best GFX card at the time, the ATI 4870x2, alas unbeknown to me, the 4870x2 has got a nasty case of micro stutters in most games. So when I eventually managed to most of FSX sorted and tweaked, I was still left with a slight stutter during flying. What became a god send was a little FPS limiter program, its posted in the link I gave earlier, and what that basically does is 'smooth' out the FPS in FSX (or other games), it is like a FPS evener so flying becomes a lot smoother. What was even more wonderful for me was, the higher and the busier I made FSX run (ie lots of AI and very high settings) the better the results of using that FPS limiter. Of course, I still need to keep average fps @15-20 to keep flying smooth, the FPS limiter cannot work miracles, if the CPU becomes too overloaded and FPS drops <@15fps then flying will no longer be very smooth. Anyways, I highly recommend anyone tries that FPS limiter and see what results they get, btw if you keep your settings low so that the CPU does not get taxed, you may get worse results, so use it only if you are already having trouble flying smoothly. Now as for FSX cards, I use to run FSX on my older PC which has a 8800 GTS and the results, visually, where nearly the same as my new PC with ATI 4870x2. The only difference was FPS, as my older system had just a Q6600 at 2.4Ghz. This was also before REX & other higher detailed scenery and liveries came out, ie UHDT. Now I am only guessing here, but with these addons that display more details will probably do better on more powerful GFX cards. But like you said, I am pretty sure you 8800GT will do a good enough job but you should try to investigate what a newer GTF285 would offer playing FSX especially with most recent high quality addons. My guess would be, you wouldn't know a difference when you flying at high altitude but when landing/taking off or close to the ground (ie your GFX card would have to do a lot more work), there might be a bigger difference in the way the 2 cards handle FSX.Anyways, that was my 2cs, I hope I have given you some food for thought and I wish you luck in improving and getting more out of your FSX. Cheers.EDIT: I forgot to mention, I run my FSX on my Sony KDL40-3000X, which is basically a 40'' HDTV with the ability of 1920x1080 but whats even better, it has an extremely good 100Hz image processor build in. This means it can increase frames by entering an extra frame in between each other frame. So when I watch lets say Bluray, which is 25fps, if I switch on the 100Hz, I can watch it at 50fps, of course I don't cause that makes it look like the movie was shot on a video camera. BUT, when I connect my PC via DVi-HDMI lead and run FSX at 1920x1080, now when I switch on the 100Hz image processor, instead of seeing it at 25fps (which is what I lock the FPS limiter program to), I get to see it at 50fps, so it 'looks' smoother on my HDTV then it would on my Dell 24'' monitor. Of course I have to make sure FPS remains reasonable smooth, once it drops too low (ie at busy airport with full AI and bloom), even the 100Hz will show stuttering. I would recommend anyone who has a decent HDTV with 100hz or 120hz image processor to try it out, you may like the results. Thanks again Terrence, I personally think your (teams) work is fantastic, I really am looking forward to your TWA release and many others. As for DX10, I will have to try some shots in DX10 with your UHDT livery, just to see the difference. Like I mentioned in the above reply, there are a few reasons I do not use DX10, main reasons are, the FPS limiter program (which really works great for me) only works in DX9, also, the HDR mod program only work in DX9 (I know DX10 has its own HDR but IMO its not as good or as tweakable). As for people not liking McPhat liveries I have 2 things to say; 1) You can please some of the people all of the time. You can please all of the people some of the time. But you cannot please all of the people all of the time. 2) Anyone is entitled to their own opinion BUT if you have nothing positive to say, then it is best to say nothing at all or say it just once and move on.Cheers
  4. Word Not Allowed: thank you for the compliment. Giving you my settings wouldn't help you, trust me, I know from experience. The reason being is that FSX is a beast to tame and it needs to be tamed specifically for each different PC. What I can tell you is to take a look at probably the best tweak page for FSX which is: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041It is there I got most of my tweaking done and it helped me to make it look as my screenshots show. Good luck.American 833: I know what you mean, I personally do like the worn out look but it would be nice if they could include new & clean liveries too, perhaps they should start with a clean livery, save that, then modify it to make it dirty & worn, then give that out too?
  5. Thank you all kindly for your words & praise. I still cannot get over how amazing this UHDT livery is, really looking forward to any other UHDT livery they may release in the future. To anyone using this livery, do not forget to make sure texture max load is set to 4096 in both FSX.cfg and any screen config files. Easiest is to use the handy little program at www.frostysoftware.com, keep the texture at 4096. That cause it was taking these shots @4am in the morning, brain was shutting down. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I personally think that if the liveries are get better in quality, then hopefully the environment will get better too. Mind you, most of the environment has been getting better, take REX, FTX, AS addon airports, ES Alderney, photoreal sceneries etc. I think this livery fits right in with those environment addons and I cannot wait for more.
  6. McPhats new free DL livery, fully UHDT, DL it at 2am, I couldn't resist a 'quick' look, its 4:30am now, I'm knackered but I just can't stop admiring this awesome paintjob. Well done to the McPhat team, can't wait for the others. All 25 shots can be seen at: http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii172/S...mview=slideshowCheck it out folks, this is the best I have seen:Sorry for the hasty words/post, but I'm falling asleep at the keyboard :( Cheers
