  1. Thanks Mel,I do, indeed, have 1.00 GB of RAM. What I don't understand is this: If 1GB of RAM is not enough to run the game now, why would it have been enough to run the game 6-7 years ago when I got this computer? This just makes no sense to me. If I do have faulty RAM, wouldn't that mean that anything that uses it would not run? I have tried a few other games, just to see if they would work or not, and they do work just fine. Do you think that if I remove some of the other scenery I have, it would be less taxing on the RAM, and FS9 might work? I have quite a few sceneries, and I am willing to part with some that I don't use that often. Just a thought. I am going to open up my computer later on today, and I will let you know what the RAM says. Thanks again,Adam
  2. Thanks Mel, I did try deleting all the entries in the scenery.cfg file, and all that are left are the scenery areas that came with FS9. I attempted to load FS9, but still "Building Scenery Database" and OOM again.I really don't think I am low on memory. I have 40.1 GBs of free space on my hard drive, and have run FS9 with no problems with a lot less than this. I have Windows XP, with all the latest updates and patches, with 40.1 GBs of available space remaining, and 1 GB of RAM available for use. At least, that's what I think I have. I am not really sure how to tell what I have in terms of my system.I did a search of the forums (by the way, the search feature in this forum is not too good. You can't search for "Out Of Memory" because the word "of" is only two characters long and is not an acceptable search criteria.) the old fashioned way, and found some posts on the OOM problem. I tried everything there, except the 3GB program. This makes me nervous, as I really don't want to screw up my whole system. That, and it's way over my head. I read and re-read the instructions posted, and I really don't understand them.Yes, everything else on my computer is running perfectly. FS9 is the only game I play on my PC. I always run the GameBooster program before loading FS9, as this closes a whole bunch of stuff I don't need for FS9 that is running in the background. Never had any problems with this, either.I just can't understand how my computer could be out of memory, virtual or otherwise. I have flushed registries, cleaned out empty folders, deleted all my flight plans (and there were a lot of them), cleaned out my aircraft folder (I am always cleaning it out, and keeping it neat and tidy), run all the programs everybody has suggested (scenery editor, afcad editor, etc.), and organized and optimized everything until I turned blue! I just don't know what else to do to rectify this problem, short of deleting FS9 and starting over. What to do, what to do...You mentioned a corrupt .dll file. I do have a sound.dll file error that pops up every time I start FS9. Could that be the problem? I always select No so it doesn't load, and it's never given me any problems before. Thanks,Adam
  3. Mel,FS9 did create a new FS9.cfg file, but it was blank. It doesn't get far enough in the start-up process to build a new one. Yes, I have the FS9.1 Patch installed. When I ran your Renumbering program, I found that my scenery.cfg file was not in great shape number wise. Some numbers were missing, some were out of order. This program fixed all that, but FS9 still won't load. OOM as usual.I don't see what good deleting everything in the scenery.cfg will do. It is the three sceneries that I attempted to install on Monday that are the root cause of all this. I already know that. It hasn't even gotten to the point where it made entries for those new sceneries in the scenery.cfg file. Before I tried to install them, the game was working fine.Any other ideas? Thanks,Adam
  4. Okay,So, I have now visited the Microsoft website in the hopes that they might have their own remedies to the OOM error message. Low and behold, they do! Step 1 says to make sure that there is enough memory in the computer. I have 40.1GB of memory available for use, so I know that can't be the problem. Step 2 is the rebuild the windows paging file. I followed the steps, but still OOM. The following steps contain things like change your game settings (but you need to be in the game to do this), update your video card (mine is updated to the fullest), run the game in windowed mode (but, again, you need to be in the game before you can do this), and a few other things that I tried but didn't work. This leads me to belive that there is something else going on behind the OOM error message that won't let me into the game. But, what? Anyone? Thanks,Adam
  5. Okay,I have now just tried the 4GB patch from NTCore, with really high hopes after reading what it is supposed to do. Still OOM. I just don't understand this. Any more ideas? Anyone?Adam
  6. Thanks Bob,I did not find that exact program, but I found another one called SCM2004, which is a scenery configurator. I selected renumber areas, and I didn't see anything happen to the list of areas on the left-hand side. I deleted the sceneries that I no longer wanted, thinking that this might work. Wrong!! Still OOM, and an empty config file. Anything else I can try? Thanks,Adam
  7. Something strange is going on with my FS9.cfg file. I renamed my old one and removed it from the folder to my desktop, and attempted to start FS9. In doing this, a new FS9.cfg file was created, but it is completely empty when I open it, wheras the old one has lots of config information in it. Does this seem right?
  8. Well, I finally found my FS9.cfg file. I renamed it, and attempted to load FS9. No go. Out Of Memory, still. Any other ideas? Thanks guys,Adam
  9. I was in the process of installing several sceneries, and deleting several others. I had just opened FS9, and gone to the Add/Remove Scenery screen, added the scenery I wanted and removed the scenery I didn't. I then closed FS9, and attempted to restart it to finish the procedure. This is where I am now. FS9 is "Building database for new scenery files". It gets to 100%, and FS9 is Out Of Memory pops up.I didn't get as far as FS9 recognizing that several sceneries were now disabled and I can delete them, and several others were now enabled and I can use them, you know what I mean? The three sceneries I installed were EPWA2010, EPGD_2008, and WRO2009. There were no .dll files that I know of associated with these sceneries.I haven't deleted the entries in scenery.cfg. Should I do that manually? Or is that something FS9 does on its own?I took the sceneries out of the folder and pasted them to my desktop, but then FS9 tells me that it can't find the scenery, so I put them back in. This includes the sceneries I was going to delete anyway, plus the scenery I was trying to install. Thanks,Adam
  10. Thanks Rafal,The only thing in that folder that says "FS9.cfg" is the text document. There is nothing else, even with the Show Hidden Files box checked. There is a "Scenery.cfg" file in the folder. This one is not a text document, but a proper cfg file.I ran the ACA2007 program, and it found some errors, but none were major. I am going to try your defrag program now. I used the default defrag program that comes with Windows, but maybe yours will work better. I'll keep you posted.Okay, I ran the defrag program, but still no go. As far as addons that could be causing this problem, all I can think are the three sceneries and one aircraft that I installed yesterday. I removed all four, but FS9 can't find them and the "Flight Simulator cannot find this scenery folder" error message comes up (for the three sceneries). So, I put them back in.Any other ideas I can try? Thanks,Adam
  11. Thanks Rafal,I am having trouble finding my fs9.cfg file. I went to the folder you suggested, and there was a FS9.cfg text document file there. I copied it to a safe place, deleted it, and started FS9, but it never made a new one. I made sure that hidden files were visible, and nothing came up that looked like a config file. That leads me to believe that the cfg file that I saw, copied, and deleted, was not the right one. Where else could it be?I have defragged my drive and ran Disk Cleanup as the error message suggested. Didn't work.I did all those things you suggested using Flightsim Manager, and it did find lots of errors, landclass files where they did not belong, unused gauges (which I didn't know how to delete; I tried and it told me that I don't have the authority to delete them). I scanned basically every aspect of FS9. Sounds, sceneries, textures, panels, gauges, aircraft, AI aircraft, effects, you name it. Did not work.I just ran the ScanAFD program, and deleted all my duplicate AFCADs. Still OOM.What is a "suspicious scenery"? All my sceneries are, or were, working fine. What are "suspicious AI aircraft"? Where can I find ACA2007? It is not in the AVSIM file library, and when I do a search of the Internet, I get business proposals for ACA2007, and deadlines for them. How do I use DXT3 textures? When I download a texture, from AVSIM for example, it doesn't give me a choice of what kind of texture to use. I have several Payware aircraft, and those do give me a choice. I have gotten rid of textures from those two aircraft that I no longer use. Still no go.Thanks,Adam
  12. Hi guys,I am having the dreaded Out Of Memory problem, and don't know how to fix it. I flew FS9 with no problems over the weekend, maybe a dozen or so flights. Yesterday morning, I tried to add three new sceneries and delete three sceneries I don't use anymore at the same time, as well as installing one new aircraft and deleting several others. I do this all the time, so am well versed in proper installation/deletion procedures. Upon trying to load FS9 after the changes were made, I received the Out Of Memory error. I searched this forum, and found several posts referencing this problem and fixes that people have found. I have tried them all, short of using the 3GB program (this makes me very nervous to use; I don't want to screw up my system, as it is running fine), but nothing has worked. I ran the FlightSim Manager program, fixing lots of errors and optimizing FS9 as best I could. Did not solve the problem. I defragged the disk drive over night, clearing up lots of space. I ran Disk Cleanup, flushed all my registries, and nothing worked. Does anybody have any ideas I might try, short of re-installing FS9 or using that 3GB program?I should mention that I had this error pop-up once before after installing 1 new aircraft. I deleted the aircraft, and the problem went away, never to return until now...Also, if I remember correctly, one of the posts on this forum mentioned something about doing something to the FS9 config file. I have not done this, because I have no idea where my config file is, and I have no idea how to find it. I tried the Windows Search program, typing in FS9.cfg (thinking that would be the name of the file), but no luck. Two Wordpad documents came up, neither of which is the config file.Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am starting to have FS9 withdrawal symptoms!!Thanks very much,Adam
  13. :( Thanks so much, guys!I am back in business!! Both the Event Monitor program and the Game Booster program did the trick. I traced the problem to what I believe to be a Java Quick Starter program, which makes complete sense now that I think about it. I did an update of my Java software on Tuesday, and have had this problem ever since, so that has to be it. Then, I did the Game Booster program (neat little program, by the way), and that shut off everything else that I didn't need running in the background. FS9 has been running for a solid 40 minutes now, with no interruptions. Thanks very much for all your help!! And, keep up the good work!!Happy flying!Adam :(
  14. Yes, FS9 minimizes itself to desktop. So, you think the keyboard is doing it all by itself? I haven't had any problems typing anything anywhere with the keyboard, and it hasn't done anything strange with any other programs. You would think it would be minimizing any program I have running, no?As far as background processes go, no I'm not sure this isn't the cause. I just don't know how to check for this, other than Task Manager and MSConfig. But, like I said, all is well in both of those places. Thanks,Adam
  15. Hi guys,I am new here on the forum, but not to Avsim. I've been using it for years, and have been reading the forums for quite a while as well. I just haven't had to post anything, because I haven't any problems that haven't been resolved by reading other posts. Until now...I've noticed a stange problem within the past few days with FS9. It first happened on Wednesday of this past week, and has happened every time I have used FS9 since. The last time I used FS9 successfully was last Saturday. I am running Windows XPOkay, here's the problem: I load FS9 with no problems. I can plan a flight, download realworld weather, select aircraft , select destinations, etc. In other words, everything you need to do to set up a flight. Then, I load the flight, and it loads perfectly. I then proceed with my flight. Within about 15-20 minutes (I may not even be off the ground by this time), FS9 switches to desktop. It does not crash to desktop, it just switches to it. I've done Task Manager, and FS9 is still running, and I can switch back. Another 15-20 minutes, and back to the desktop I go. I have tried looking at the event log, but there is nothing there. I downloaded and ran a registry cleaner like someone on the forum suggested in another post. Didn't fix the problem. While this was happening, I noticed that I was also having a problem with Windows Defender. So, thinking that this was interfering with FS9 somehow, I uninstalled it, and have not reinstalled it. I have tried doing a System Restore back to Saturday, when everything was working. No dice. I have run all my virus protection programs, and they all found nothing. I haven't added or taken away anything from FS9 this week or last week. I tried using MSConfig to try to figure out what's running that is interfering with FS9, but came up emtpy. Nothing there has changed. I tried moving the FS9.cfg file out of its directory, but couldn't find it. As a matter of fact, I have had always had trouble finding it from day 1. But, FS9 knows where it is, so I haven't really given it much thought. Any ideas or things I can try? Has anybody else ever had this problem? Thanks for any help you guys can give me,Adam
