  1. I'm slowly beginning to use MSFS more. I've been in flight simulation for 35ish years (!) and have been solidly using P3D for the last few. I wasn't impressed with the early iterations of MSFS (I was actually part of the alpha and beta teams - which put me off!), but I am becoming more and more converted. One of the things that were hampering me was the different (and apparently less "good") camera system, so over the weekend I put a bit of effort into learning how to use it properly (or at least how it works), and suddenly realised that I could re-create "tower view" and fixed external cameras (something I was really missing), by using the drone camera and fixing its location and then locking it to follow the aircraft. So, I visited the lovely Headcorn airfield, (thanks to some gorgeous scenery from Burning Blue Design), and took the Flyingiron Spitfire out for a display practice. (video starts just before power checks, and the takeoff roll starts at 3m10s). The video is "shot" from four static ground cameras, one on the balcony of the Aero Legends building, one somewhere down on on an imaginary crowd line, one from a field opposite the airfield, and one from the fence on the A247 at the end of the runway! (plus some use of onboard and tail mounted cameras). Yes, there are still multiple issues and problems with the system in the sim - and there's no way of saving a location (like a tower view) as you could in P3D or Chaseplane, etc... and the fact that there seems to be a very limited range of view of the camera (about a mile?) before the aircraft disappears. I also experienced some ghosting when playing back the flight in SkyDolly to record it (but this is my first ever FS video so maybe this is normal?) Anyway, I started out just experimenting with no aims of making a video, (let alone sharing it!), and I'm sure I'm late to the party and everyone else knows how to do this stuff, but I've not seen many videos from fixed/tower cameras (if any) so in case this is useful to inspire anyone then here it is!! No idea if I'll do any more, but I quite enjoyed the creativity, and MSFS does look lovely so who knows! oh, and don't look too hard at the clouds - this was shot in a number of takes and I couldn't find a way, (without having clear skies which don't look so nice), to keep the clouds consistent - but to my eyes (and ears) the atmosphere created is enough to allow your imagination to join the dots! (and yes - I'm flying the "Kent Spitfire", G-PMNF, and the same airframe also exists as a static aircraft in the scenery oops!!) (it also has a red spinner for some reason?)
  2. Hi Simbol, Apologies for delay in responding - thanks for your input and pointers - I've actually spent today downloading loads of the AIG stuff and it seems to be working really well. Thank you for your recommendations and I think this is the way forward. I'm still think I need to find the "sweet spot" between aircraft showing up (particularly in the air - strobes/nav lights) and them looking unrealistic on the ground, but maybe that's about artistic interpretation! And good idea about ammending the website to remove the FLAi reference now that it's (sadly) demised. As it would seem that without the FLAi this is not so much of a problem. Congratualations on all you do for the community
  3. Hi Simbol, Thanks for responding quickly. I've spent more time with this this morning (whilst waiting for PMDG to solve the 777 activation issues!) - and I'm making some progress, but it's still a bit disapointing. I have managed to make strobes/beacons/nav lights show in the sim in some cases by upping the levels of the effects to what (in preview mode) seem very un-real, but at least they can be seen in the sim. I'm running at the moment in "expert" mode (which is a bit of a laugh as I'm clearly not!) but have tried it in basic, advanced & expert. And yes, I had previously watched all of Rob's excellent tutorial, I've also spent a long time this morning watching aircraft move around at EGLL (with time set to night) - and corresponding what I'm seeing to which models vPilot is injecting and it really does seem that almost all of the FAIB models and some others as part of FLAi are really not fit for purpose, particularly when it comes to landing lights. I appreciate there are all sorts of issues regarding inter-compatibility, and I don't expect you to be able to make things work for everyone, but your site does say.... So it leads me to expect the product to work with FLAI including FAIB models - it feels a little wrong to only discover these issues once one has purchased the product. I'm assuming that I'm stuck with what I've got? The stuff that works is very nice (apart from the landing light bug which is horrible), but the problems effectively mean that many aircraft are effectively invisible at night - which is a real shame. Is there anything I can do to make the FAIB models compatible?
  4. Hi, I'm a relatively new user (a couple of weeks), and despite having read the instructions (including removing the "effects" entries from offending addons) - I'm not really seeing many lights on any aircraft. Mostly all I see is the (annoying - but I know it can't be helped) - rearward "glow" from landing lights when aircraft are heading away from me, and sometimes some landing lights when aircraft are pretty close, but no "beams" just spots of light. I NEVER seem to see any strobes or nav lights and hardly any beacons. All in all, I'm a little undershwlemed. The screenshots and videos look very impressive, so therefore I'm assuming that it must be my fault somewhere, but I'd appreciate any pointers. (I'm using FLAi - it was already installed when the recent debacle occured, along with the BAV model matching set) I'd welcome any input.
  5. Hi, After many years of using LINDA in a very basic sense, I've just started seeing if I can use it in a more advanced fashion, and getting involved in the dark arts of lua programming! I'm starting with the Real Air Spitfire, and have managed to trap the LVar for the air filter lever (Cowl_Air_Lever)... I've then edited the module using the LINDA editor, which tells me the syntax is OK, and the functions show up and are able to be assigned to joystick buttons. So far so good.... except it doesn't work.... Here's my initial script -- ## AirFilter ## function Carb_Air_Intake_FilterInOperation() ipc.writeLvar(Carb_Air_Lever,1) end function Carb_Air_Intake_NormalIntake() ipc.writeLvar(Carb_Air_Lever,0) end (and I've tried it with "Carb_Air_Lever" in quotes and without. the log shows [EVNT] Execute Command = "PR:044F04020:15" [EVNT] Execute Command = "PR:044F04020:17" which I think is the joystick ID and button ID, but nothing happens in the cockpit Any ideas?
  6. Actually, I've had this issue intermittenly with HF1 (and I think the RC) with various objects "poking through" haze/cloud layers and appearing very clear (and dark). I've only just put HF2 on my machine and not done anything more than a quick circuit or two. I'm guessing it's another aspect of the Atmospherics beta that will still be with us until v5.1 (or beyond!) - along with the weird cloud effects around aircraft in external view etc. etc.
  7. Can I just check - as I don't think you actually say it - but have you now set your pagefile to "system managed"? could you give us more details of that?
  8. I also enjoyed it in v4.5 despite its nav database issues - however have tried it in v5 and whilst it loads fine, it seems not to want to start!
  9. Hi, I installed v5 alongside v4.5(hf2) primarily as a test to see how it ran etc.. am delighted with it and am now contemplating continuing to run the two side by side. ORBX Central does support two sims - and I'm trying to online install things that are genuiinely compatible (although I am currently experimenting with both REX SF & EF by pointing them at P3Dv5 instead of v4 and they seem to work after a fashion).
  10. it has to be said that what it looks like is only half of it.... no... much less than half of it - as Ed says... and it really is - I'm currently flying around London - ORBX TE GB, UK2000 LL & KK - cloudy skies and it's fluid as f*** (sorry for the language!)
  11. Great shots! and I have pretty much an identical hardware spec - do you mind sharing your settings (assuming you found the "sweet spot"!)
  12. And just to close this off - it was indeed the desktop slide show that was the culprit. I even re-enabled the FSUIPC auto-save and all is still good! Thansk again Don! C
  13. Don - you might have just hit the nail on the head - the only thing that's changed in the timespan I was experiencing these problems is that I allowed Windows to sync my settings with my Microsoft account - the simulator PC used to have a fixed image, and now it has a slideshow changing everyone 1 minute..... what's worse - it's hosted on OneDrive so it's having to download the image each time - it's amazing what you miss! I'll give it a try and report back!
  14. Hi all, I'm writing this with some trepidation as I know pauses (long frames) are something that a lot of us have learned to live with on P3D. I'm running v4.5 and it's a relatively fresh installation after having suffered for years with the consistent repeatable long frames at various geographic locations caused I think the consensus is by a combination of a lot of UK2000/ORBX scenery. (although not exclusively in the UK). So the new installation has minimal UK2000 (I used to use the VFR airfields products so they were everywhere) with ORBX, not AI traffic (I fly exclusively on VATSIM) and for a while everything was kind of OK, yes there were still the odd long frame in busy places (approaching London TMA etc.. etc..) but the odd one I could live with. And wierdly and bizarrely I WAS running FSUIPC autosave and it WASN'T giving me any grief with pauses. But - for about the last six weeks (maybe) I've started encountering absolutely regular, repeatable pauses every 60 seconds... Not initially on a flight but maybe after an hour or so and then for as long as I run the sim (I've gotten into the habit now of flying multiple sectors with turnrounds on the A320 without restarting as VAS is no longer an issue). These pauses once they start are regular as clockwork - every sixty seconds the GPU utilisation drops to 0% the CPU takes a small drop and then after maybe 2 or 3 seconds we're back in business, and then another one comes and another - but ALWAYS regular as clockwork. So, the first thing I did was of course disable FSUIPC autosave, thinking perhaps some Windows update had caused the autosave process to give me a problem now, but it's not changed anything. I can't help feeling that the answer must be obvious - but I'm struggling. To be clear - these are not the geographical based long frames, (I still get those sometimes but can live with that) - this is something different. I'll attempt to list my system specs and what I'm running below... I'm lucky to have a reasonably high-spec rig and generally the performance is very good, but something must be "polling" the system ever 60 seconds, so I'd be ever so grateful of any thoughts? P.S. All the "usual" precautions are taken - anti virus excluded on all P3D and related software folders/volumes etc... 15. Indeed - I've watched a bit of both films, and was impressed. I found myself wondering if they were actually posted by MS or Asobo to look like a leak - as they certainly don't do anything to damage the perception of the new sim, and if anything help to show that it is coming along and is "real"... 🙂
  16. If the weather model is as sophisticated and organically driven as the current information suggests I'd be amazed if contrails weren't part of that. exciting times...
  17. Hi all, Been following this forum for a while - I'm pretty much ready to purchase a VR headset, and was almost going to get the Rift but am now considering importing the Odyssey - would welcome thoughts on that and whether there's much noticeable improvement in resolution? But my main query relates to the fact that in my current P3D 4.2 setup I use a 2nd PC for weather, VATSIM, flight planning etc.. - and suddenly realised that in a VR world I can't see that monitor!! So, how have others dealt with this? Is it a case of using FlyInside where I believe you can dock a window into the sim (which could be TeamViewer of the other PC if you get me?) Any advice or comments welcome Cheers CB

  19. Having recalled the issue a little more I seem to remember that when I upgraded to 4.1 I was using one of the ENVTEX PTA presets (which i think are built into ENVSHADE) and one of the settings (concerning clouds) in PTA was causing the issue. Sorry I'm not at my P3D PC at the moment and can't remember which one - but by disabling that "fix" in PTA it solved it. I think (from what I understand) that ENVSHADE is these shader "fixes" hard coded into P3D so you may not be able to "tweak" as required. Try uninstalling ENVSHADE and restoring original shaders,.
  20. I had a similar issue (not with PrecipFX but with a combo of PTA and ENVTEX) and slightly by accident discovered that uninstalling and reinstalling PTA & ENVTEX solved the problem.
  21. it looks pretty enough - but my god the terminology and the RT phrases make me cringe. It's like the worst sort of "Air Crash Investigation" episode... urgh
  22. Hi, I should start by saying that I'm not a developer, just an end user but I'm posting here as I'm hoping someone might be able to shed light on this. My problem started (I thought) as a REXe issue, (and I have posted on their forum) but after spending all day trying to make things work I know think (know?) it's a Simconnect connection problem - if I can sort that I think I'm there!! As I was trying to get REXe working I've setup the .xml according to their instructions - which include setting the scope to LOCAL(?) and the port to 6600. I've tried all sorts of things to make Simconnect talk to the client PC (including lots of uninstalling/reinstalling - including the CLIENT OS as I was getting "SidebySide" errors!!!) - I eventually took a look at the Simconnect log file on the SERVER. Now I'm not an expert at all, so I normally don't really get what's going on there, BUT I am alarmed by the first few lines which say this..... 0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0 0.00653 Server: Scope=local, Protocol=Pipe, Name=\\.\pipe\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SimConnect, MaxClients=64 0.00850 Server: Scope=local, Protocol=IPv6, Address=::1, Port=49178, MaxClients=64 0.00999 Server: Scope=local, Protocol=IPv4, Address=, Port=49179, MaxClients=64 Which is worrying as the SimConnect.xml on the server is this.... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?> <SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0"> <Descr>SimConnect</Descr> <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol> <Scope>local</Scope> <Address></Address> <Port>6600</Port> <MaxClients>10</MaxClients> <MaxRecvSize>4096</MaxRecvSize> <DisableNagle>False</DisableNagle> </SimConnect.Comm> <SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>Auto</Protocol> <Address></Address> <Port></Port> <Scope>local</Scope> <MaxRecvSize>4096</MaxRecvSize> <DisableNagle>False</DisableNagle> </SimConnect.Comm> </SimBase.Document> So my question is - where the h*** is Simconnect getting the server info from that's showing in the log??? According to the log the server is set to LOCAL scope, it's IP address is, and it's trying to work through port 49179. Whereas I want it to be a GLOBAL server, the IP should be and the port (always worked for me) 500. Anyone have any idea what's going on?? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?? Just for the record the SimConnect.cfg on the CLIENT is this; [simConnect] Protocol=IPv4 Address= Port=6600 MaxReceiveSize=4096 DisableNagle=0 The networking side of this setup is all solid. both machines can PING each other, access shared files etc. and FSUIPC/WideFS and FSInn/FSCopilot both work absolutely fine in the networked config. I'd be eternally grateful for the help. Many thanks CB
