  1. Dear all Just something to share or perhaps most of you already know!! I have been playing with the Alternative limiter in the attempt to get my sim experience as smooth as possible. I the process I found that certain aircraft require different frame setting in order for them to perform smoothly or as stutter free as possible. The same applies to the default aircraft within FSX. I have always been aware that some of the more complex aircraft have always required unlimited FPS while others perform smoother at 30FPS. For example some of the Carenado aircraft like 30FPS to be smooth, or relatively stutter free, while Captain Sim aircraft require unlimited or they stutter far more. Like wise the setting will vary according to the scenery being used. I tend to only use VFR scenery for the UK and Orbx, Australia and Canada with the various other more detailed scenery airports currently available, which go with them. So following having installed the limiter I have found the settings that work for me.I set the FPSlimit=30 RenderAheadLimit=4 I tried many various combinations with set sceneries and specific varied aircraft as my control. I set FSX to unlimited but only with certain aircraft – the more detailed airliners – and with some of the aircraft I set FSX to 34 FPS to I presume equal the render ahead limit!!!!! Don’t know the technical aspects of this as I am not computer advanced. With some of the aircraft they don’t like the 34FPS and I actually alter FSX to 30FPS. This is now below the external limiter, but it seems to work on my set up and gives a good result. I have many aircraft add-ons which like various settings. All I do know is it has the desired effect and can actually stop the micro stuttering when using the above sceneries. My PC is 12 months old and out of date but I have too much software and time put into it so I need to get the best from it and changing is not an option. So the point I make is alter the FPSlimit and the RenderAheadLimit then alter your settings within FSX itself with certain aircraft and certain sceneries. Perhaps you are all already doing this and I am only just catching up!!!! 2. Hi Bill I don’t get this frames limiter. I copied the two files into the root directory of FSX. How do I access the limiter side when running FSX? The install instructions say use the application key, is the key located between the rightctrl and windows key. I have a UK key board. Not sure if this makes any difference but nothing happens. Should something come up on the screen? Should I enter something into the CFG file? As per previous posts! [config]RenderAheadLimit=2FPSlimit=30I have tried to follow the postings by others but still don’t get it.I am a bit lost with this…………………..Sorry to sound so thick. Stewart
  3. Thanks for the quick reply. I might give it a go.Stewart
  4. Hi Guys Could someone tell me how easy it is to un-install the alternative FPS limiter if it all goes wrong? I have not yet tried to install it yet, as I am wary of making things worse………I have a seen people on the forums saying some +ve and –ve things regarding it. All I want is a stutter free non blurry PC ……………… I don’t need things maxed up with Autogen etc, but VFR scenery needs to have a degree of sharp focus. I am still having some stuttering issues and buries when using VFR scenery of the UK. My system was working very well and smooth then I don’t quite know what happened. I have spent many weeks trying various as suggested on the forums including the tweek tool from *******. 5. Thanks for the prompt reply.I have renamed the d3d9.dll file and things appear now to be back to how they were……..Hooray. I used one of my old cfg files which for some reason produced better graphic quality and depth??? Don’t know why. However changing the d3d9.ll seems to have sorted the excessive stuttering I had with the external view. Setting BufferPools to 2 million has also helped prevent the stuttering to a more tolerable level. If I go to 3 million it stutters while in outside view.Regards Stewart

  7. Thanks for the reply.Since my last posting I have gone back to an older cfg from a few months ago. (I keep backups of cfg’s if I make changes) and it made a big difference and brought back the sharpness with smooth performance as per usual in the V cockpit. However when I then go outside the stuttering is very bad. This is with certain aircraft and not all. Recent pay ware from Warbird sim and some of Carenado’s aircraft – the more resent ones. The VFR UK scenery with trees from Earth simulation is smooth when at 30FPS set using the sim limiter (No external program running as am concerned it may cause issues- can you switch it off/disable if it does not work?) I have varied the frames to unlimited and the stuttering gets worse when in the outside view. When I use the Orbx scenery it would stutter very badly from outside the cockpit and inside. Irrespective of the FPS set. I usually find limiting to 30 FPS works reasonably. I then took this new cfg and put it through your Tweek tool and now the outside is less stuttery and moor usable as is the inside. With Orbix the Autogen is set to Sparse as if I increase it to normal the stutters get worse. When I go back to VFR UK, the scenery seems less sharp with slight stuttering when panning around, unlike before the cfg was tweeked. The tweeking has certainly helped the outside view now but still slight stutters. Are there any slight changes I can make to the cfg now that may help? I have spent many hours/days trying different things in the past with the cfg as per various forums – however my knowledge is limited and I always have backed them up before tweeking. My system is: FSX GoldMSI X58 PRO-E Intel i7 920 Quad Core 2.66 Ghz Samsung 1TB 32 Mb CacheNVidia 285 GTX 2Gb DDR3 Corsair 12Gb Tri Channel 1600MhzWin XP Professional 64 Bit Yes I did find the d3d9.dll file. (I don’t know what it does though) Once again thanks for your time. Stewart
  8. Hope I have placed this in the right place, I appologise if not.Hi wonder if you can help. I have been using the tweaking tool and now my flight sim has improved with scenery from Orbix and I can load Normal Autogen with good results, but my VFR scenery of the UK has blurring problems and stuttering issues which it did not have before. I have replaced my original CFG file but this seems to now not be working quite right as it was before the changes were made. I have had to resort to doing a restore point return on my pc to see if that helps. Still blurring issues and stuttering. The blurring may vary. With the autogen off in VFR scenery there are still slight stutters when panning around. I use the TrackTR . I have always run with vertical sync on as I don’t like the tearing and have had good results with other tweeks, Pools etc.I have tried to make a default CFG file but this made things worse. I have tried putting the changes made/recommended from your Tweeks tool to my original CFG manually but still stuttering and blurring. You recommend the controlling of frames from within FSX I am trying to get the program to run the WinRa file. Once this is applied how easy is it to remove if it does not work? Bit cautious with my Pc as I have spent a lot of time and money on various bits/scenery etc.Any suggestions – I have tried what I think are changes to the pools, texture band etc Regards Stewart
