I wonder if the extra detail we're seeing in the clips (Airports with people & staff, bush plane with grass & animals etc) are all hand placed items for Scenarios so essentially "handcrafted areas".

Or preferably that's what the world will be like all over, AI placed items so every airport has "life" of some sort. It'll be interesting to see for sure.

they're using machine learning and procedural generation to add trees and rocks and other stuff. They talk about it in the FSExpo 2023

MSFS2020 have very good looking water and planes, but no water phycis. It seems that MSFS2024 do not have either? Water is allways calm flat. Waves have absolute not effect to the planes or boats.

You can see waves effecting boats in in the trailer at 1:15

I think that is a custom scenery showing what is possible, I do not expect to see any of that in the remote areas like Southern Africa and PNG where I like to fly. 🙄

I don't think it's custom based on what they've said in the past, but it will probably depend on the resolution of the satellite imagery for the AI to create that kind of quality.

I think it looks absolutely incredible.

I only hope it runs on my absolute potato of a PC which I can't afford to upgrade...

Does anyone know what the system requirements are likely to be?

Also with regard to the "GTA style" open world - train simulator did this with the transition to Train Sim World and I think this works really well and adds a whole new level of immersion.

It's still running on the same generation of Xbox as 2020, so I can't see the system requirements changing that much. I'm guessing they found some more room for optimization.

Clouds look as bad as they currently do in MS2020. Shame really they haven't done anything with something that you would think is critical in a flight sim.

They have improved. There's more layers of clouds, and there's no way you can recreate these clouds in 2020 right now

Well, it looks like it is a victory for those that wanted Flight Simulator to be turned into an arcade game

Complete nonsense. The sim is not being turned into an arcade game.

In real life, you have to seriously learn how to operate an aircraft before you go off and fly any missions.

In real life you also have to seriously learn how to operate any of the aircraft in the sim. What's your point?

Do you think everyone who does serious airliner flights in the sim went to flight school?

I wonder if Asobo is enhancing ground crew activities such that GSX is much less relevant.  I would feel for Virtuali for taking this project on and then losing market share to this but I also believe Asobo could do a far better job and I would welcome it.  GSX remains squirely at times and I don't blame Virtuali for that he's hamstrung I'm sure by limitations in the SDK or what have you.

I think there will still be a place for GSX. I'm guessing 2024 will just have visible boarding passengers maybe an improved pushback, I doubt they'll have all of the same features.

Is this the first time a default sim comes with actual real-world liveries? It’s one of the first things I noticed but I don’t think we’ve touched on it at all in 8 pages. Apologies if I’ve missed it.

2020 did ship with a United livery for the ugly generic AI airliner, but they removed it in an update for some reason.

Also the ini A320Neo comes with a few IRL liveries. Technically that's a default aircraft now 😛

FSX came with a Kenmore Air livery for a few aircraft. Kenmore Air is a real sea plane operator in Washington state.

Wonder if they're hinting that those ships and boats are pilotable 👀

It's more likely the live ship traffic they mentioned at FS Expo last year.

My dream would be that the powers that be opensource the original after 2024 gains market share

2024 is built on top of the 2020, so that is very unlikely.
