I realize this. It is not an issue when it is at a smaller airport. What I was talking about was filing a flight plan, and going online with VATSIM. then suddenly someone starts Ground, and decides to reroute my trip, and after doing the reroute-I depart, and am flying with no ATC at all, does that make any sense? and of note, I have landed many many times, too many to count where the ground controller simply says taxi to parking instead of taxiway guidance to the gate I requested to go to, thus again why I see no rel reason for a better voice control, nor the newer control supporting squakbox. As I said, I guess my online flying days and my flying with my Virtual Airline are about to come to an abrupt end, And that means just one less activity I am able to enjoy anymore. Thanks to all for the replies. Still going to try for a work around for FA(m as I said I do not have the cash flow to have a new computer built to move to FSX or Xplane.

Yes, it seems I will need to use Swift as it appears to be the only thing left. I hate to tell you this, but there is NOTHING at the VATSIM Support site for users of Squakbox, and I would just love to go to X[Plane 11, but do not have $3000 for a new system to run it with all that is needed for it to LOOK good.

Yes, but APP today is more Phone/Android related. And as I posted, I have not seen any APP to get to be able to use Squawkbox next month. And it seems if I wish to use SWIFT< I will need to D/: and install a vast huge library of World of AI in order to see other traffic.

skelsey Hi there, as for the work you all put into it, thanks form the entire flight sim community. Somehow you read my comment as you wasting your life devolving a product, I never said that. However, in the real world, aircraft radio transmissions are FAR worse that what is currently on VATSIM as to quality, covered transmissions, whistles, pops, static etc. You say you are adding in ATC real life features such as these, are you going to include a SQUELCH feature as well? As you claim to develop this, What about the voice transmissions? Are they going to be sent to Google or some other type to be listened to? Yes, I am paranoid. As for Squawkbox. you say download an APP, I saw nothing no where to get such an APP, and by APP do you mean for a Phone device? I simply am a dinosaur, and refuse to get a PHONE Device for internet use, nor do I feel a need to give any phone number out to gain access to sites, emails, etc. SO EXACTLY where do I find this APP? I see nothing on SWIFT or anywhere else? I used to drive trucks back in the 90's and today I see truckers MUST have and give out their phone numbers yo shippers and receivers,etc, and I guess if I was still driving, I would quit. Thus........if VATSIM really wanted to improve, they would NOT allow a controller to pop online and sit on GROUND when no other ATC is running, thats not realistic. Perhaps VATSIM needs to ensure a CENTER is operating before any other more localized areas run? Too many times I have got online, no ATC and as I taxied out, ATC would pop on, I would request clearance, be given changes, Depart, and ATC would go off line. Is that realistic? I feel a phone should be a phone, Sure there are convenient things, and real life pilots must have one but, it does not fit my interests, and lastly, the email I got from VATSIM more or less said Squawkbox will no longer function, so IF I can find the APP, and it is usable on a desktop, then how long before it will be phased out? As I said, Only Swift seems to be a FS9 client and it is listed as experimental? Not trying in any way to argue, just seeking answers and help. I mean it appears that VATSIM may soon loose a lot of FS9 pilots to NEW TECH.

I flew FS98 for years, I resisted going to FS2k2, but I did,and it was fun, then I resisted FS9 for several years. When I di make the move it was great.With that said I DID NOT NEED a newer computer to run FS9. And yes over the years I did get better systems, but kept with FS9. As many have said, FS9 runs great, I have not done anything to it in years. I spend money for add on scenery and Aircraft. And all the freeware that was put out for FS9 made it look great. Yes, I did buy FSX Gold, out of the box it looked terrible and did not run good one my system. I tries scenery addons, and all that did was choke it further. I then tried X-plane 9 Demo. I DID like the night lighting, but the scenery and the ability to fold the wings into "U" with no ill effect, the small balls of smoke when landing, etc, turned me off along with what I see now as a continual UPGRADING of X-Planme (yes, maybe for the better,) but I see a lot of Xplane guys complaining about what was broken in the last update. SO I avoid it. Also and more important why I keep FS9 besides it looking and flying nice, s MONEY. I am old and disabled, fixed income, and DO NOT HAVE $3000 to drop on a new computer that ill run X-Plane/FSX) with add ons to make it look nice. Lets be real here. FS9 has both FREE and payware PhotoReal scenery that makes it look as good as X11 with Ortho ( OR NEARLY as nice but at a lesser resolution ) so I ask Why spend the money and time to go there? Also, flight sims have become all about the money. I already spent a lot of money for my FS9 payware add ons, But FS9 had tons of GREAT freeware, that worked with other freeware just fine. I know that a lot of freeware is out for XPlane, but I also see people saying how poor a lot of that is, and How long before XPLANE updates and that freeware will no longer run? I also saw one pilot here say how more than one copy of FS9 is installed with different era/ Scenery, How cool is that? Now finally, as VATSIM is about to shove SquawkBox out the door, and more than likely ending my ability to do the VATSIM thing, it displays simply one more cog in the Future is all that matters mentality, where only newer matters. There are several Manufacturers of flight sim software who simply abandoned all support for those who bought and run the FS9 versions. So I am ULTRA GLAD I have saved copies of say LIVERY for aircraft's, as they are no longer available online. A shame, but its all about the money, and it seems to me people today are all to eager to just keep spending for updates over and over again FS9 for me.

I am repeating more or less what I posted elsewhere. I fly FS9 mainly due to lack of money for a new system, and a stable FS9 with addons, scenery, etc. I run SquawkBox and I see no real need for a new voice setup. Clearer voices will not make VATSIM better, and I must question WHY? It also seems as if SWIFT is the only option for FS9 pilots and they list FS9 and EXPERIMENTAL. SO why push a large segment out out? I shall download and install Swift, but I need far more info on how it works, IF it works, and how to make it work. Last thin gI want to do is ADD something into my FS9 setup that MIGHT screw it up, of be a huge drain on my small computer. As you see I run with voice as a low priority setting to give the system I have max effort to run FS9. Any critical help would be great

Yes indeed. I just got an email telling me SquawkBox is no longer going to work in VATSIM. How NICE. I also run FS9 on a WIn732, why? Because I have no interest in WIN10 or rebuilding my sim. I would not mind a restart to a newer flight sim, like say X11, outside of what I see as a sim that needs a lot of constant tinkering and a lot of money for a system to operate it on so it looks and runs good. As far as I can see SWIFT Client shows fs9 as EXPERIMENTAL, I realize that F9 is old, but so am I, living on a fixed income DOES NOT allow me the luxury of a new $3000 computer. And all this for what? So the voice is better?I have never seen the voice on VATSIM VIA SquawkBox as an issue. SO I question why this move? So before I bother, and it seems as if only Swift will run with FS9, Will it? Does Swift actually run with FS9< and how much hassle or learning curve is there? Thanks

I will answer all of you in this method. Some say Free scenery and aircraft, If I enjoyed them so much did I contribute back. Yes, I did several repaints, never figured aircraft design, nor making new scenery. I have in fact modified some stock airports, but never felt the small simple mods I did were anything more than to made it look a little more like they should. I also have modified panels and some AIR files for a Virtual Airline I was in for a while. As far as FS9Freeware-ya, I probably have everything ever put out, in fact when a crash occurred a few years ago I offered to send any needed files to get the library back up. As far as the S9 version of the PMDG737 goes, I used that as an example as it is one of the few payware's I bought in the way of aircraft that can allow AIREC updates so I can fly VATSIM and do it right. I also have bought many many payware sceneries in the past. As I said, I have a 64BIT computer, but it is just too slow to handle FSX very well. Until I get a NEW ultra fast toy (Doubtful as I am on fixed income) well, then I am stuck with FS9, which is fine by me in many ways. The problem of flights not logging in not a PMDG issue it is something amiss withinFS9 where it stopped giving me a LOGBOOK at the end of my flights, I searched and trued all the fixes I could find, but it just never worked again. The main problem withFS9 and updated AIRACs & Online flight, is runway and taxiways, being realigned, in FS9 a lot of them are not-so I then must go in and send time fixing them. Trust me the first time you are on VATSIM and given vectors to an ILS landing in near zero vis, and the runway is not where it should be, you begin to think it is time to move to FSX.P3D or X. I did not like X as you can bend the wings of a 747 into a "U" and still fly, and adding items is confusing, P3D was mentioned as it it specific to 64Bit and I was told it would work better than FSX. So any help would do. I guess my main issues is unless it ir Xplane of P3d or FSX nothing new is much out there f0r FS9 and in general, when I look at whats new, it is mostly just repaint, I think sooner or later repaints will not keep the sites alive and thriving just a thought thanks

Sorry, I am on day 3 of food poisoning, so I am a little fuzzy, but now is as good as ever. 1st, I admit fully that I fly FS9, yes, I mainly use the PMDG7376-7-- I bought years ago. I use it because i can maintain the AIREC files. I also use it because i have nearly every single free download that came out for FS9. With all the modifications it looks nice and flies good. Only big issue is a while ago FS9 STOPPED auto logging my flights, I tried the fixes I found but now luck so I manuals made a log books and fill it out by hand. NOW I did run out and buy FSX, then sold it off, and then later bought FSX GOLD with SP2, still it was disappointing, yet I continued to collect and add items to it of my new machine. HOWEVER I rarely fly it as the stutter and reloads of 5 to 8 seconds make it no fun. My "NEW System is a WIn7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1AMD 4100 Quad core at 3.60 GHz 8.00 Gig Ram NVidea GTS450 - ya an antique, All I could afford and I am disabled and on fixed income. Oh well. I also have Xplane 10, but admit at my age I cant figure out how to add it all up and make it work. SO I know the fix is a new top of the line computer, but that is not the real issue i write about here. No it is about the state of flight sims period. USED to be, every day there was something new to download. NOW, I see so much for Xplane and so much for P3d, I simple do not have time for that, wish I did. but what mainly has me miffed, I besides hardly anything for FS9, or even FSX. I see most nearly nothing but repaints, repaint,repaints, repaints. Not a lot of new airfields. and that is a real shame. It seems in today's world it is not BUT everything you want, I don't have money to BUY BUY BUY. So the question is why are no new airports or aircraft being made for FREE anymore. Sooner or later people will grow sick of paying $40 t0 $70 bucks for an add-on, Sooner or later we will grow tired of repaints. I used to run the TRAINZ game, that had a nice download station then failed to keep thing in proper order thus eventually you could not easily find what you wanted and simply gave up. SO the base question her e is can we somehow get back to basics, free airports and new free aircraft. Ans stuff other then P3d which I know nothing of, or Xplane which seems very much a test bed. Or maybe someone can put out detailed manuals on just how to set up and add items to P3d, Xplane etc, also DCS, I have the original DCS A10 love it, but know nothing of how to add the battlefields or new aircraft or how to get into games0I have written to all of them and got ZERO answers. Because the ashtray is built into the seat design/area, and because aircraft are manufactured for sale world wide. Smoking on aircraft is still done in some countries, thus the ashtrays.
