  1. I was a UH-60 Maintenancetest pilot at Wheeler AAF from 1997 to 2000. I was flying the south side VFRpassage which passes just south of the reef runway 8R one day. There were Konawinds that day and as we flew by I watched a 747-300, I believe it was KoreanAir, try to shoot the 22L VFR approach. It was truly horrible and I was sure Iwas about to see several hundred people die. As is required by that approachthe 747 was paralleling the Waikiki shore and at the last second the pilot onthe controls turned hard left. TOOOOO Hard!!! As you can guess the bird stalledand started sliding left toward the ground. The Pilot made the hard butnecessary correction leveling the aircraft and most probably pushing to fullthrust (giving the amount of black smoke pouring from every engine) I was mesmerizedand sure they were dead. The aircraft turbine lag finally caught up, the planecaught and they climbed out, strait OVER the terminal and managed to saveeverybody! I'm quite sure that flight crew had a very serious brown pantsfactor after that!!!!
