  1. Personally, I loathe using them due to the toxicity that usually follows my posts or comments. Even if I have an innocent question, I usually get some kind of snide comment about not knowing where to look for answers. I hate it. It's everywhere- from Facebook to here, and it's also commonplace on forums for both sims. Sometimes I think to get my own channel and start using it as a platform to be able to share my experiences without being battered and muted by the peanut gallery, grammar police, know-it-alls and censors.
  2. I would invest in the RTX just because it will boost performance in X-plane and help your system be more MSFS friendly too. I've been using a 1080ti for a little over a year- it's a great card, but still not enough to run all the eye candy I want. ESPECIALLY if you're running multiple monitors.
  3. X-plane doesn't perform as well as P3D. Maybe vulkan will improve that, who knows. In the meantime, The Zibo is not that performance heavy, but X-plane is. If you have custom scenery, weather, the Zibo and sliders set too high, you'll struggle for performance. I have a 8700k with a 1080ti, and it struggles at times. I dumped P3D a few months ago for X-plane because of the Zibo (prefer it to the PMDG bird, which I flew for 3 years), but P3D is optimized better. The best you can do is try- remember Zibo is free.
  4. Aside from the big things that we've been discussing, I hope someone over at Asobo can remember the little details that kill the wow factor in our current options. Some examples include having good looking contrails, and some that remain in the sky and turn to wisps. How about realistic effects such as spray during takeoff and landing. Maybe some fog over the wings while flying through clouds? Deicing fluid and effects? Other little things that bug me are how unrealistic ground services really are, even with the help of things like GSX and Better Pushback. They also move aircraft very slowly compared to RW operations. Good tools, but we can do better I think. How about how traffic performs on the ground and near airports? These are just a few examples of little things that can really use a boost into the next-gen too. What else comes to mind?
  5. Nothing kills a good mood more than reading through some Avsim posts. Geesh.
  6. I don't mind it in this forum simply because it's a good place to let the pot stir a bit. Once MSFS opens up theirs, I bet much of the discussion/speculation/criticism will move over there. While I appreciate the need for AVSIM to keep things friendly, I also think they get hyper-sensitive at times too. This is a good place for people to vent for the time being, within reason of course.
  7. I fly just as much as before, but I also look at everything I encounter in the sim and dream of the day MSFS gets released.
  8. It doesn't matter. I prefer it after spending more than 1500 hours in both. Deal with it.
  9. no, I'd buy x-plane. Sorry, but that's my recommendation.
  10. I'm happy it's open- that way I can share my thoughts, feelings and experiences where it matters most instead of dealing with many of the persnickety folks on Avsim. Freedom at last.
  11. It's all related. And, since I had P3D, my post is as relevant as any thank you very much.
  12. Ok, I forgot about that, but still- a discount on a tried-and-true bird that will be in the sim not long after it's released doesn't seem like a bad tradeoff. However, I'm not sure I want it. I fell in love with the ZIBO in X-plane after flying the NGX for 3 years. The colors in the cockpit of the NGX are all wrong, and I think the physics in the Zibo are much more accurate. If I don't have any other option, I'll get the NG3, but maybe I'll just build my time in the airbus for a while. But circling back to performance, I still think that everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised with what they get on their particular systems. Of course a good upgrade with the RTX will help a lot, but it's an investment worth making no matter what sim we use.
  13. Seasons are not fixed by any stretch of the imagination. Only xenviro provides seasons for orthos, as far as I know (and that's a terrible, buggy and expensive addon) and all the other seasons I see floating around are just terrible, and some are just too cumbersome to mess around with. I also have doubts that x-plane will have decent weather, night lighting or other enhancements- real shadows, better reflections, aircraft lighting within a year unless they spend a significant amount of money to pay for the talent to make that happen (or to license it from somewhere else). And, if you think that outside developers are going to give us all of that in less than a year, just look at how long it's taken them to give us the half-working products so far.
  14. Clouds in X-plane are awful. Terrible. Scenery is okay, it's amazing what you can do with orthos. However, it doesn't come close to what we can expect in MSFS So, for me x-plane is a nice middle-ground that will keep me satisfied until FS is released, but I'm quickly becoming bored with it as well. Especially when I fly after watching videos of MSFS.
  15. Not so much hardware as bandwidth. X-plane graphics are excellent, their problem is weather, lighting, lack of seasons, poorly rendered environment and a lot more. If I remember correctly, when MSFS gave people a taste of what to expect, they didn't use NASA supercomputers, and most up-to-date systems should be able to handle the sim just fine. Maybe upgrade the video card. Also, and I know a lot of people are going to argue about this, but I believe that this will be a sim that is optimized for Xbox. PC first yes, but PC gaming isn't where the money's at. It's console gaming because not everyone has thousands to spend on hardware. Consequently, if it gets too cumbersome or pricey to run this on a PC, then run it on Xbox, for a fraction of the cost. Once they develop good yokes, throttles and rudders for Xbox, it's a win-win. I for one will be delighted to switch over.
  16. PMDG already said the uprade of their release of the 737 to FS will be free.
  17. P3D v4 was the last purchase I will make from LM. I never felt comfortable giving my money to a defense contractor to begin with, but trying to get developers to see the big picture in terms of what the community wants has been a fool's errand. I ditched P3D earlier this year after 3 years, went to x-plane, and I'm going to ditch that too as soon as FS comes out simply because I'm tired of developers failing to produce a sim that the community has been screaming for. Even during that horrible Q&A, there was very little detail in terms of how X-plane is going to move forward, so that gives me little hope that anything substantial is in the pipeline.
  18. I wouldn't. They've resorted to making small sceneries to keep money rolling in while abandoning projects that they've promised the community for years. It's ridiculous. I've never liked Orbx or their bully-ish ways of dealing with customer support. However, they are the only real game in town for P3D fundamentals like landclass. That being said, I've bought the basics, but never bought anything else. In X-plane, their scenery areas are too hard on systems, much more so than P3D in my opinion. Furthermore, they're redundant as we can easily use orthos to get similar results for free, with a little bit of time and effort. Not exactly, but pretty close.
  19. HAHA, you know, I went over to X-plane after getting tired of waiting for P3D to get out of the stone age. Then, when I got to X-plane, I experienced similar problems. However, X-plane across the board is cheaper than P3D, and developers are more-responsive to the needs of the community, however they're also slooooowwww to respond. At the end of the day, I'm hesitant to sink much more money into either platform, at least until we have a better sense of when FS2020 is going to be released. If it's a year from now, then I'll buy more. If we're talking months, then I'll hold off on making major investments.
