  1. G'day captains, I'm putting together an upgrade of sorts from the parts bin for MSFS. The current rig is very old and running P3D3.5 (i7-3770K, 1070, 24GB DDR3, SATA SSD) I have the following hardware to work with, just trying to find the optimal combination of hardware for FS because even with the sim being out for 2 years nobody has concluded if this sim is CPU or GPU bound, at least in the last half hour of research I've done. - Asus H270 Prime + i7-7700K + 32GB DDR4-2666 (8X4) - ASRock Z390 + i5-9400F + 32GB DDR4-3000 (16X2) - GTX1070 8GB (re-used, has a ghetto but extremely effective Noctua setup strapped to it) - GTX1070Ti 8GB (EVGA ACX FTX cooler) - Zotac GTX1060 6GB - T-Force 1TB NVMe SSD For a target of 25fps on a 32" 1440p display, what would be the most "balanced" setup? There's an optional budget (inclusive of selling the 1060 & 1070) to buy an RTX2070 or an i7-9900K, but not both. That's only if a stronger GPU or CPU is required to balance out the spec, respectively. All thoughts and suggestions welcome.
  2. Gday gentlemen, An issue with the Queen popped up recently out of the blue whereby the night lighting that surrounds the switches (those lines and markings that help you see in the dark, not sure what's the proper name for those) seem to be half broken. Randomly, they will fail to illuminate fully. The following screenshots help to illustrate my point: NORMAL/WORKING LIGHTS (this is the level of brightness that is expected) PROBLEM/DIMLY-LIT LIGHTS (exact same settings, brightness knob maxed, applies to all panels) NORMAL/OFF LIGHTS (this is what they look like when switched off) In addition, there is also incongruity between VC and 2D panels such as FMC. CENTER CONSOLE LIGHTING (supposed to be dark, and even so this is only half-lit, those buttons are supposed to be lit bright yellow too) 2D PANEL LIGHTING (shows "lit" texture) I don't fly often these days due to work and have even lesser time to tinker with the sim (P3D 3.4). The below issue has arisen out of the blue and there has been no changes to the sim whatsoever in the past year or so. Reproduction is random, it occurs like 4 times out of 5 when I try to fly at night. Doesn't matter what time setting I load into, if the Queen is in a "dimly lit" mood today it stays that way. Can someone advise what is going on and how to fix it please?
  3. Mod note: Kindly move this to a more appropriate board if deemed necessary. I thought it didn't fit in virtual airlines as this event is open to all on the VATSIM network and not a private VA affair. 21-22 October 2017, Saturday and Sunday, 1100Z to 1500Z+1 (including 1 overnight leg) Basic coverage at all event airports: KBFI, PHNG, PGUM, WSSS RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/events/145497206067472 Charts, scenery and planning data (including route files for payware aircraft) will be provided at least 48 hours before event start Bring our newest bird home! Singapore Virtual Airlines Group welcomes 9V-MBA, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 to its SilkAir fleet. Embark on an adventure with fellow pilots hopping across the Pacific, calling at Hawaii and Guam along the way. This is an ambitious event that will span the weekend and bonuses will be rewarded accordingly. While all effort has been made in consideration of all timezones, due to the complexities of the route and ATC availability, priority has been given to local time (GMT+8). Regardless, all SVAG pilots who complete the route 48 hours after event end will still be awarded. As VAFS does not yet have the 737 MAX 8, we will be speccing the route (and future MAX 8 routes served by SilkAir) with the 737-900 instead as it is the only equivalent aircraft with adequate range. Professional flight planning data and route files will be provided at least 48 hours before event start, so don't worry even if you're new or unfamiliar with the region. Join us if you can even if it's just for a leg or two. (Hint: PHNG has incredible freeware scenery).
  4. Hi guys, A really curious issue I've run into a few days ago and persistent until now; when I use the pushback function in the 747v3's FMC and select a direction + angle, it just pushes me straight back forever until I stop it. It recognizes that I've entered a direction/angle because if I use 0 degrees the comms correctly says "straight back", and "tail to left/right" accordingly if otherwise. I don't have GSX, AES or any other kind of pushback-related utility. I always reload a saved flight from my last shutdown but this issue persists even if I create a new flight from the Scenario screen. Does anyone know what could be possibly causing this and how to resolve it? Thank you.
  5. Hi Campbell (hope I got that right?) The changes are applied instantly, that is fine and well, but what I'm trying to do is to have the same configuration carry over to another aircraft because at present I have it set up just the way I like. However, this configuration only remains if you always load the last saved flight before quit, therefore if I were to load another livery or even start a new flight from Scenario screen I would lose these settings.
  6. Hi guys, just a quick question here. You know on the Queen II where you can save panel state in the FMC? I would like to do the same thing except save aircraft configuration; things like equipment and displays. There is a "restore" and "load from" at right select 2 and 3 but no "save"?
  7. Dear all, We are pleased to announce that both East and West Malaysia neighboring regions will have ATC coverage as well, opening up more options for multi-leg flights during the event. We are in discussion with Thai and Indonesian vACCs. Bookings are now open and filling up fast. Pop on over to www.singaporerealops.com to secure your slot. While unscheduled flights are welcome, we'd like to remind pilots that just like in the real world, airports have flight slots to ensure things run smoothly and this is no different in Real Ops. Flying in without a booking will see you run into delays during peak periods as priority is given to scheduled flights. Warm regards, Nicholas
  8. Singapore Virtual Area Control Center in collaboration with Singapore Virtual Airlines Group is proud to present this year's edition of Real Ops at Changi Airport. Panic Stations with a Southeast Asian flavor, this will have the level of staffing, planning and realism you've come to expect from a top level event with no less than 14 veteran controllers in Singapore alone! Come visit our tropical little island on June 17 and perhaps turn around onward to one of 380 destinations in 90 countries. Bookings will be up shortly with a reply to this post containing detailed procedures and information. Unscheduled flights are welcome too although minor delays may be expected. 9. Pleased to confirm that the cause of freezes during cruise is VA tracker initiated auto-saves through FSUIPC. Have now done a 6 hour flight without incident. Conclude that PMDG aircraft don't play well with FSUIPC auto-saves, period. Thank you guys.
  10. Good day gentlemen, thank you all for your replies. I have of course read all the documentation in their entirety (save for the 1606p FCOM) and took all the necessary steps to ensure proper operation. During the course of my initial internet searches I came across the FSUIPC auto-save solution a couple of times (which worked for some people on other PMDG craft) but didn't pay any attention to it as I do not have a premium subscription to the program. However, now that you guys mention it again I realize while I do not have auto-saves in FSUIPC set, a flight tracker that my VA uses does - via FSUIPC. I'm descending right now and will turn off the feature during the turnaround to see if the issue arises on the return leg. Fingers crossed it doesn't. Will update again for posterity if this is indeed the solution.
  11. Hi all, I'm new to the PMDG 747v3 and have been slowly learning to fly it. It's a work of art and runs very well. However on my long haul flights I've noticed a strange issue; it freezes for a period of time, runs for a bit, then freezes again, and repeat. I can spend an hour prepping and taxiing on the ground and it never happens, then during climb there'll be a very short hang (<5s), the duration and frequency of these hangs increase until at around an hour into the flight the plane is essentially unflyable (freeze 30s, run 5s etc). It's not just the plane that hangs, the entire sim hangs even in the save flight dialog. There is no time acceleration, no custom camera software running, and very little running programs in the background. I've tried reinstalling FSUIPC and the plane itself to no avail. A lengthy search on the internet also turned up nothing like it - there are lots of PMDG 777 hang issues but none on the Queen II perhaps cause it's still quite new? The only way round this is to save and reload the sim every so often which is not always tenable especially online. Anyone have advice? TIA. Regards, N
  12. Amazing shots. May I ask what weather software do you use that creates that hyper realistic low level fog?
  13. Mods: Kindly move this to a more appropriate board if deemed necessary. I thought it didn't fit in virtual airlines as this event is open to all on the VATSIM network and not a private VA affair. Hello everybody, Pardon the pun, but how time flies.
