I don't think it's the Creative card, I think more likely some kind of conflict with multiple programs all trying to send sound data to the PC simultaneously. Since adopting the 'fix' that I listed in my original post - I'm cautiously optimistic that I may have resolved the problem. I also rolled the nVidia drivers back to the latest WHQL-certified (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) driver. I will consider the case resolved unless the buzz re-occurs. Thank you for your idea, though.

Yes, I went to Navigraph and what a shock, there was a "V.2" (version 2) of the current AIRAC, just days before the next cycle will release on the 18th Sept. Thanks for the tip.
