  2. Hey folks. Long time simmer here just coming back from a big 2 year break or so from flight simming, looking to get a basic set up again... joystick with a good sim + loads of addons. Since microsoft dropped the ball with flight and no plans to make any future sims in this area, I'm thinking of branching out, my background: Started with FS2002, followed all the way up to FS2004 and stayed there for quite some time until FSX mature heavily, and I mean years before I came from FS2004 to FSX. However I do think that maybe FSX is getting dated as well now, so before I commit to FSX again, I'm re-thinking some of my sim options. X-Plane is one of them, how does it stack up with graphics, performance and addons? I know FSX is very CPU bound game, which is frustrating when you have a very capable system but the game code is bottle necking you a lot, does X-Plane take full use of todays high end GPUs? I have 2xGTX 670s in SLI and would love to hear the news that it will eat all these resources up (I do have a i5 3570K at 4.2ghz however) FSX When stacked with addons, does look great, but requires a lot of effort to get there, and the bottle necking doesn't help. How does X-Plane graphics compare? Lastly, addons... I can't find much about x-plane addons where as FSX is heaving with them. Would love to hear your input and advice.
  3. First of all. A bit on my simming background. I first got into flight sims when I picked up FS2002 from a game store in my local town, I think it was the awesome float plane on the front that struck me. I played it on my terrible system back then, couldn't even remember the specs. My major love for the hobby came with FS2004, I got really into it and spent the majority of my spare time flying the virtual skies with a community and then later on to some vatsim time too. Since FS2004 I owned a saitek X52. It's the only thing i used for simming, so maybe not as hardcore as a lot of other people, but i enjoy the experience non the less. It took me a while and a huge struggle to ditch FS2004 and move to FSX. I eventually did and became to love FSX for what it was. I invested into Track IR for FSX, I enjoyed and the smooth view was nice, but needing to put it on my headset every time I played was a big draw back. Played FSX casually (no properly online flights) for quite a while. Flight came out, a breath of fresh air. Maybe I was out growing my love for the actual simulation and wanted more of a "game" feel. Today I packed up my Saitek X52 and Track IR and sold it on. I've now ditched FSX for Flight and I'm not ashamed to say I play flight with a smile, I enjoy it and I use an xbox 360 pad to play it, and it acts just as well as the joystick did if you ask me I'm only in my 20s, but coming for FS2002 to Flight is some great progression, I know flight is completely new from 02>04>X but I'm a happy convert to this "game". I don't know what made me ditch FSX for Flight so easily, ditching FS2004 for FSX was an incredibly long and hard task to do. Thanks for the simulation memories Microsoft and I look forward to the future development of Flight :)
  4. VOR/Localizer is what im on about. This: http://www.theriteshop.com/shop/media/ecom/prodsm/TBR000047.jpgApply what sort of correction? I was constantly banking left to right, to left to right and so on in a battle with the needle to stay center.
  5. Enjoying this immensly, I am an avid simmer in FSX, Mainly VFR so I want to discuss Flight, the land challenges in RV-6 impressed me and I enjoyed the ILS landings but I find it hard as it seems im constantly fighting with the needles. When I intercept the localizer and turn to a heading of 24 for runway 24 with visability at less than 100ft in challenge 6 in the RV-6. It seems the centerline needle doesnt automatically adjust to say im right, heading 24 etc. It shows either left or right bank is needed to centerline. So i either bank left or right so I'm on course and the needle constantly tells me to either bank left or right and im fighting with it constantly and when I get down to 100ft and see the runaway I realise I'm quite a bit off, enough to adjust it drastically but at least 50ft left or right of the centerline (no where near the runaway)I'm a complete ILS newb as in FSX I was always VFR. Am I doing it right? :P
  6. Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, But i really enjoyed watching this, especially with the nice choice of muisc (imo)
