No, it projects a cone of detection ahead of the aircraft so it’s not ‘useless’.

The problem is Asobo’s weather is simply not dangerous.

Did ActiveSky build a tilt function? I’m impressed…

"The problem is Asobo’s weather is simply not dangerous."

    Exactly!

If it were the opposite it would make this simulator completely addictive. This would require us to diligently analyze the weather forecast throughout our flight plan with the utmost attention. Our brain would be constantly in turmoil.

Our flights would certainly be more tiring and our pleasure so much greater. You can't even imagine how much it would change everything...

  2. I'm just waiting for the new MSFS 2024 weather engine even if a lot of doubts still persist about it. But I still have a lot of hope also. As for 2020 and everything that revolves around it, there is total disinterest. In my eyes there will be no more revolution now regardless of the field.

Aside from the freebies and great performance of MSFS, it's been a rough almost 4 years for me and MSFS 2020 has become a simulator with too much external assistance software. We need to make it simpler.

I would have preferred 100 times an announcement of collaboration and integration from ASOBO with AS for the future.

  3. The only thing you can try in MSFS is to "Imagine" that your flight is going to be complicated because of the weather. Everything is so easy, no matter the scenario. To have the constant feeling that we may not be able to get out, that's what I'm looking for. There is nothing else to try apart from pretending.

I'm still waiting for a nice demonstration and technical management of a balloon flight in real conditions.

You are so right. Pre SU5 I started to feel MSFS was going in the right direction with the weather.  It was still too 'on rails' so landing was never a challenge.  Even now,  one can take off and land in whatever direction you wish, regardless what the winds are doing.  Recent additions like 'study' level aircraft, AI ATC and real traffic with AIG/PSXT can give a reasonable sensation of being in a procedural world, but the weather remains poor.

    Exactly

"study' level aircraft with poor weather" .

There is nothing more absurd than that.

To each his or her own, I'm perfectly happy flying around but as posted, weather depiction is not accurate and seems have no real impact on my flight planning nor enroute ... I never divert because I know I can land it in any condition presented in MSFS in any aircraft.  Fuel planning is almost useless without proper weather depiction especially when most aircraft try to hop on a jet stream ... just not simulated at all in MSFS.

For some, shooting things provides the "purpose", for others like myself, flight is a challenge WHEN the environment is simulated enough to make it a challenge ... right now MSFS just doesn't do that for me ... and sadly I doubt it will ever do just because I don't think the majority of users are interested in a high level of simulated fidelity ... I'm forever a niche user looking for a massive investment in development of a flight simulator that does it all and does it well so that I do feel challenged ... catch-22 ... there will never be a large enough user base to support the level of development needed to make flight realistic and a challenge.

So for me "purpose" is a realistic simulation of every aspect of flight from weather to ATC to ground surface and sadly that doesn't really exist to any degree where it would impact my flight or decisions during a flight.  But with that said, shooting and blowing things up is probably a much easier task to simulation for Asobo and my hunch is we'll see something like that in future -- anyone else remember Microsoft Combat Simulator 1 and 2 and 3 based on the same engine?

Your comment shines with truth. This is one of the most honest comments I've read here and this is exactly the feeling I've had for a long time.

When I read certain comments here that are intended to be serious and technical on the MSFS environment it makes me laugh, and laugh...

We are so far from the reality that a flight simulator should represent in its fundamentals.

Meh, at this point I don't really care what they're going to do with this sim. I am more concerned with not seeing any 2024 previews. I'd think that being almost into April they'd start showing some cool stuff already.

I don't really care also what they're going to do with this sim for quite some time now ,worried about MSFS 2024,excited for MSFS 2028.

So black it's almost other-worldly! You could be on another planet. 🙂

Yes certainly John you are right! but in fact it's a little too dark due to my screen settings which do not correspond to the overall brightness of the game.

Next time I promise not to send you so far into a dark world 😀

Hadn't seen the Airbus Beluga, around here, in a while, filou...Good to see it...

Lovely shot of it climbing off and away from the ground.... (though this plane might throw your Optical Zoom off a bit...🙂...) ...

    Thanks for sharing...!!

    Thank you for contributing 😉

One of my favorite airports, filou...

Wonderful set of images...and impressive shots of those Teton Mountains...

Thank you This place looks beautiful and one day I would like to be able to take real photos there.

Can't fault any of them.  Spectacular.

The clouds look incredible, with the highlights and shadows.  I seriously doubt you could get better than that.

Thank you!. There are simulators without surprises and others where everything remains to be discovered. XP is an example of this quiet force with unsuspected potential.

  10. But in my case and my experience of X-Plane 12  it's been like this since the first day of the release of X-Plane 12.We just need a better world, everything else is there..The snow cover on X-Plane 12 is simply magical reality when you taste it you can no longer  fly elsewhere with the same context.

In addition to this X-Plane lighting feat we can even add the realistic quality of road traffic. The realism of the puddles on the track and the soundscape etc...This is what we call balance...

Even the most numerous can't do it.

I can't wait to find ORBX TrueEart again.

After that I will do shots as much as the falling raindrops.
