  1. thanks will try changing from REX, shame as I really like the graphics. I have searched the forum for an idiotsguide to changing affinity mask. Most of the posts I read are form people talking about the change not themechanics of doing so. where do I go on Bios to adjust affinity mask and do I sumply add a line to the CFG.Evan
  2. Hi KostaHave made all the changes apart from affinity mask until I know what I am doing. Rex seems to run a lot better and thingsseem much smoother. Better still few CDT's (2 after 5 hours of use) one I had was when I over-clicked on the NGX's FMC to deleteloads of items in the text box (forgot to push tab to remove this) as I hammered back spaced in frustration it crashed. This seems fair enough ashammering the keyboard is never a good idea! the second was a Hresult 14b again. From what I have read on the forum this seems to be connected toREX? I closed the weather update window that loads with the FSX screen and fingers crossed not had another one. Will the affinity mask update made a difference for me. If I can avoid these CDT's which I now seem to be doing I am really happy withthings.Just enjoyed a night landing with NGX at Charles de Gaulle. Even my wife who has no interest at all in FSX or computers for that mattercould not leave the room and was bowled over with the graphics...Thanks for your help...owe you a pint!!
  3. How do I copy the Vista UIAutomationCore.dll into FSX folder? Is this something I copy in from a link, or do I create a new folder..You should start charging for all this advice! Thanks Evan
  4. Hi Word Not Allowed going to try these changes this afternoon thanks for suggesting these. IS it normal for FSX to crash every now and them i.e. not every time.it just comes up with the message 'fatal error' windows has stopped running FSX.. sometimes I get the codeHRESULT 0xc000014b. Often happens when I am moving between panels.. Get the feeling it could be Rexas I believe it is a demanding add-on. Will your changes above help the situation..I am not keen on re-installing aswell fsx runs along with the add-ons.. Where do I input the clouds 2048 number on Rex.?I assume I input the changes in the FSX cfg note pad file..Thanks for your time and advice, much appreciated.
  5. Thankyou will adapt these as soon as I can work out how. Do I go into FSX cfg folder?
  6. Finally got my new system, i7 2600K OC with 580 graphics card. Running NGX and concorde X with Rex 2.0, also got ultimate terrain X and Ground environment X. Getting roughly 25-30Fps, falls to 11-19 fps when using aerosoft airports (to be expected?). Guess theres lots of tweaking I have still to do but overall happy with performance.Sometimes FSX crashes (not too often) but enough to have me wondering what updates I might still need. Sometimes get HRESULT 0x000014b??Is there any tweaks you guys would recommend. I have win 7 64 bit, SP1 and SP2.Thanks once again for your help/advice
  7. Thank you both for your replies once again. Will swap those disks! do you agree I need a better PSU?Will let you know how I get on. Cheers Evan.
  8. Having spent all day on this I have decided to go for the spec below. I have beed advised toupgrade the PSU. In your opinion is this a well rounded system i.e the CPU and graphics card? Thanks for your help. Evan Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K Processor overclocked to 4.5GHzCooler: Corsair A70 CPU CoolerMotherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro MotherboardVideo Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB Video CardCase: Xigmatek Elysium CaseMemory: 8GB PC3-12800 MemoryOptical: Samsung Blu Ray / DVD Combi DrivePrimary Drive: 120GB Corsair Force 3 6Gb/s SATA III SSDSecondary Drive 1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk (FSX)PSU: 750 watt Corsair PSUSound: Onboard High Definition AudioOS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM
  9. Thank will probably go for the latter spec and upgrade the PSU to the 750W. Thanks for the advice.
  10. the 780 included the optical drive and hard drive from my old computer. They were going to add an i5 2500 (no OC) and a 1.2Gb asus 560 also 16mb ram and a new PSU.Saw no sense trading in my old desk top as my wife uses it with all my software etc on it. if I am spending that amount I would like a new desk top solely for FSX.Thanks Evan
  11. Thanks for your info. would the Corsair TX 750W PSU or Corsair TX 850W PSU be a better idea only £30 more.Leaning towards the second machine following your advice esp if it will run NGX an extra £399 seems a lot for an i7. Is there a big difference betweeen the570 and 580? and are the hard drives ok on the lower spec?THanks for your help with this. Evan
  12. Would appreciate your advice and help on this and I apolgise if I am repeating previous threads. Can't decide whichcomputer to buy and will only fork out for the more expensive one if its worth it to run FSX better.First one coming in at £1399 (chillblast) - Is this worth pushing the boat out for. Want to run NGX and concorde X comfortably.Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K Processor overclocked to 4.5GHzCooler: Corsair A70 CPU CoolerMotherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro MotherboardVideo Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB Video CardCase: Xigmatek Elysium CaseMemory: 8GB PC3-12800 MemoryOptical: Samsung Blu Ray / DVD Combi DrivePrimary Drive: 120GB Corsair Force 3 6Gb/s SATA III SSDSecondary Drive 1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk (FSX)PSU: 750 watt Corsair PSUSound: Onboard High Definition AudioOS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM Or this one i've ben quoted £1000 which is more appealing. Is it worth me paying £399 more for the above? 13. Thanks Word Not Allowed I will let them set up the computer (before doing so I will start a new thread) then I will politely pester you guys on the forum. One day I can hopefullypass on the good will and be in a position to contribute to the forum.. thanks for your time.
  14. Thanks Word Not Allowed, will go with the i5, have spent two weeks dithering over this. The company also offer a fsx install service at £60 to maximise setting etc. In your opinion is this worthwhileor would I be better just asking questions on the forum? Thanks for your help
  15. Not got the expertise to build my own, nearest shop was charging £780 to build a lesser model. I just like the idea of warrantly and support with a bigger company, although I think you are right if I could find somewhere to build it for me. I just want to know if the i5 and GTX 570 will run things ok or is the i7 and GTX 580 worth waiting for. Thanks for any advice. Evan
  16. Reading with interest the set ups you guys use. Thanks for your time posting these. Because of your advice I have held back on buying a slower PC and saved up. Have a budget of £1000-£1100 to spend on a pc that can (cast iron Guaranteed) run NGX and Concorde X comfortably. If this budget is not enough I will wait as I don't want to put togethor a machine thatwill not do the job. Taking into account all the advice and opinions I am considering a machine from Chillbast (i5 over clocked with a GTX 570 and 16Gb Ram - 2 hard drives) this comes in at £1000.Or do I instead add the over clocked i7 2600K which would take me up to £1100. Later on in the year I would like to swap my hard drives for SSD . Also Is there a big difference betwwen the 570 gtx andthe 580 graphics cards in FSX? Just looking for steady frame rates before stunning visuals. Chill blast do a "superfortress" pc thats looks amazing but at £1399 is out of reach, do I save that, or do I need to if the above will do.Would appreciate any advice. Evan
