  1. I may be wrong, but I want to say that I've read somewhere that it's normal for them to leave the gear down during test flights.
  2. http://anthony-harding.com/?p=156 I, for one, like this guy's take on the possible future for AA.
  3. I would explain nVidia Inspector is a program that you can use to override the graphics settings for any game. A lot of us use it on FSX for the Antialiasing it can provide, as well as the small GPU tweaks that can squeeze every last frame out of FSX.
  4. Thanks! Glad that this post has been of some help to a few of you out there. As for the speculation on release date, go to the second video around the 11:20 mark. RSR says they anticipate releasing it this year. Mind you, that was at the end of March and a lot of things could have changed, but I don't think they've announced any unexpected delays.
  5. I completely agree with what you're saying, but of course, people are still going to have their own preferences. PMDG have obviously made up their minds and are going to the 3D VC only (which I personally enjoy, I never fly 2D even with the NG), and people who are bothered enough over the subject may have to look elsewhere for their add-ons.
  6. At the same time though, you have to keep in mind that PMDG have not implemented a multi-crew function just yet, so we're simulating flying an aircraft that most definitely requires a crew when it's more than likely just us at the controls. Consider on top of that those of us who like to fly raw data and use VATSIM, etc. etc. and you can get a multi-tasking nightmare. For that purpose, I could understand some people wanting some 2D pop-ups, but to me, there's nothing like pulling off a great takeoff, SID, STAR, or landing using the VC. I hope you guys understand when I say that when everything goes right, it's a great feeling.
  7. More news today, though I would venture a guess and say most people saw this one coming. Since the post got pinned, I can't update the original post anymore. #unintendedconsequences
  8. Good point. I hadn't thought about the logistics yet. Assuming everything is done with .pdf's, the download size could get pretty large in a hurry. Perhaps it will be a system where it requires an internet connection and only downloads the charts that you need for your departure airport, arrival airport, and your alternate? Your guess is as good as mine.
  9. 11:55 of Video 3 And later in the same video. . . Good news!
  10. No, I doubt they'll remove functionality that's already in the NG, so the call-outs for V-speeds should be there. The post I pulled that information that you quoted was referring to more detailed crew interactions (i.e. "Cabin crew, prepare the cabin for takeoff", "Could we get some coffee up here in the flight-deck"). Assuming FS2Crew makes a product for the 777, that's where we'll see that sort of stuff. As for the push-back chatter, I thought it was pretty cool that PMDG included that. I was pleased to find out about that when I bought the NG, so I hope it stays. Basic as it might be, it's a nice option for those of us who don't have a program like GSX.
  11. I've found that the EZDok camera solves a lot of the problems that I've had with maneuvering about the virtual cockpit. For instance, it's fairly easy to set up a camera that repositions the camera so that the CDU fills the entire screen. In my mind, that's just as effective as having the 2D pop-up. Similar camera angles can be made and saved for the rest of the displays and interfaces. I plan to do this again when the T7 and 747 launch. Seems no different to me than the actual 2D pop-up that the NGX has, except for the fact that you can't be looking out the windscreen at the same time. Now, I understand that it's another add-on, but I think it's easier for folks economically to come up with a solution like this instead of buying an entirely new set-up.
  12. Everyone, Thanks for the warm welcome! It's my pleasure to make your internet acquaintance. Yes, like some of you, I like my information in a centralized source, so I'm glad someone else has gotten some use out of it. I'll do my best to keep things updated so the rest of we newbies have somewhere to start reading. Like all of you, I eagerly anticipate the future of Flight Sim, and no matter who takes the simulator title away from Microsoft (who seem to be giving it away in my eyes), I fully expect PMDG to be a part of the cutting edge as everything moves forward. Cheers everyone, week's half gone! :drinks:
  13. Greetings everyone! As a new user here on the Avsim forums, I have been lurking quite a bit, keeping up to date with the verified information given out by the PMDG team in regards to their highly anticipated release of the 777. For the new people like me, I thought I would compile a list of information that has been been confirmed by either RSR, Ryan, or another member of the PMDG team. If I have missed something, please add to the list! Confirmed: The 777 (and 747 v2.0) will be released for FSX only Base Release of the 777 will be the 200LR (77L), which will be followed by the 300ER (77W) (Source - RSR) Reasons for this include the extensive list of similarities between the two models, namely their engine performance The additional variants will follow, provided the community has sufficient interest. From my short time here, it would appear that there is quite a backing for the 200ER. [*]SDK, Paintkit, and manuals will all be available. [*]Folding wingtips will not be included (Source - Ryan) Reasons for this are because this option never made it off the drawing board at Boeing. It hasn't been done in real life, so we're not going to get it on PMDG's 777. (Similar to winglets on the 736 according to Ryan.) [*]Crew interactions will not be modeled. We've got the good folks at FS2Crew for that! (Source - Ryan) [*]PMDG cannot account for every single configuration of seating available on the 777. [*]The checklists will most likely not be customizable - we'll get the standard Boeing ones. [*]Manual Step Climbs and Mach Restrictions will be possible. (Source - Ryan) [*]VC rain effect is highly unlikely. (Source - Ryan) [*]RTA is confirmed (Source - Ryan) TBD: The status of Radius-to-Fix legs. (Source - Ryan) The ability to run the 777 on several different networked PCs. (Source - Ryan) YouTube Videos Part 3 I know that I've read that the anticipated release is at the end of 2012, but I can't find the source. Until then, happy flying!
