Does the website I posted report the correct rate when you change it in the Logitech software, could you please check that for me?

No it didn't - it is showing massive spikes at all settings so I don't know how accurate it is. It is most accurate at 125, but when I tried 1000, the website was showing spikes to 3000 and above which shouldn't be happening.

Unfortunatly, the problem persists with the old mouse. According to this website: https://www.clickspeedtester.com/mouse-polling-rate-checker/ both devices have a polling rate of 125 Hz. Back to square one...

Next test: Screen refresh rate 25 Hz.

Shame that didn't help - I just tried and can straight away reproduce the same issue on my system if I change the polling rate (it is called Report Rate Per Second in the Logitech software) to anything other than 125.

  3. What mouse are you using? I remember something similar with large FPS drops when moving the mouse cursor within P3D and the only way to minimise it was to reduce the USB polling rate for the mouse.

I had got a new Logitech gaming mouse which was using a 1000Hz polling rate and had to reduce it to 125Hz in the Logitech G.Hub software - any other setting would cause these FPS drops in P3D (but not in any other games).

    Just an idea 🙂

  4. I’d appreciate any assistance in setting these parameters if the system is thermally restricted and I can’t enable/disable HT - basically an iMac running Windows via Bootcamp.

If I run AM at 65493 (and P3DCoreAffinityMask at the same), performance is good but the CPU throttles back and the only way to control that is either disable Turbo Boost (I7-10700k) or by limiting the Turbo Boost to around 4.0-4.2GHz rather than the 4.7GHz it usually boosts to.

The thermal throttling is occurring on the scenery loading threads, so if I run the above, the throttling is happening on cores 4 to 7.

I seem to be able to maintain higher clocks therefore by ‘disabling’ HT using an AM so which of the following makes more sense?

    1.

    11,11,11,11,11,11,11,11 = AffinityMask = 65535
    01,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 = P3DCoreAffinityMask = 21845
    00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01= MainThreadScheduler = 0 = core 0
    00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00= RenderThreadScheduler = 1 = core 1
    00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00= FrameWorkerThreadScheduler = 2 = core 2

    2.

    11,11,11,11,11,01,01,01 = AffinityMask = 65493
    01,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 = P3DCoreAffinityMask = 21845
    00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01= MainThreadScheduler = 0 = core 0
    00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00= RenderThreadScheduler = 1 = core 1
    00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00= FrameWorkerThreadScheduler = 2 = core 2

    3.

    01,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 = AffinityMask = 21845
    01,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 = P3DCoreAffinityMask = 21845
    00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01= MainThreadScheduler = 0 = core 0
    00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00= RenderThreadScheduler = 1 = core 1
    00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00= FrameWorkerThreadScheduler = 2 = core 2

    Thanks.

What REX SF version were you using?

Also check the REX log files folder for reported errors/warnings.

It was that Alpha version they put out a week or so ago.

What I did notice is that everything which was using Simconnect was stuttering, pausing and then eventually disconnecting - the behaviour with the PFD hitching and pausing continued even after I shut down all add-ons which were running (ASP3D, ASCA, REX Skyforce, ProATC-X and BAV Merlin which is the ACARS for the VA I am a member of).

It only started, I would say from the top of my head, about 45 mins into the flight and everything had been normal up till then. Also, didn't have any issues on the outbound but I do think it was REX. I've uninstalled it now but that was the only thing which changed on my end and I have never had any such issues prior to that. I haven't had the opportunity to test the same flight again since but I will be doing so.

No, I never bought FTX Open LC. It sounds like an equivalent version of UTX but I could be wrong as I’ve never investigated it. Perhaps owners of Open LC could confirm.

It appears Asia may be coming to P3D in the shape of Open LC from ORBX.

    https://fselite.net/news/orbx-openlc-asia-for-p3d-coming-in-2021/

    Thanks - appreciate it.

The above suggests that the combo (FTX Global. Open LC and UTX will work together).

What I was hoping to see on Flight 1’s website is Ultimate Terrain X for Asia. It never appeared. I have Europe, North America and Central America / Caribbean.

What these addons give me in addition to FTX Global and FS Global Ultimate is a very accurate depiction of those land masses. Accurate coastlines and rivers plus ground textures. FSGU finishes things off nicely with detailed mountains.

I’ve disabled the Airport layer for each as the data is so old. But the rest is great and can be recommended.

And each time I fly in a new part of the world I’m not downloading gigabytes of data that becomes worthless if it’s cloudy.

Oh, and finally, AIG Ai. Over 900 liveries plus lots of private jets for just about every airport in the world. Ai brings airports to life - even default ones - and is an ongoing project made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

@Ray Proudfoot Very interesting post - Can I check sir, are you also using FTX Open LC in conjunction with FTX Global, FS Global Ultimate and Ultimate Terrain X, or is it just just FTX Global and FS Global Ultimate? I understand that Ultimate Terrain X can be used instead of Orbx Vector and I am eligible to 50% off because of owning v1 of Ultimate Terrain X so was wondering if it was worth mixing the Orbx FTX Global, Open LC and Ultimate Terrain X.

    Thanks!

  8. I installed REX SkyForce recently, running in conjunction with ASCA and Envtex.

I did a flight from EGLL to LEMD in the FSL A320 - no issue at all, but on the return (next day, sim started from scratch) route, after about 45 mins and flying over France, I noticed continuous pausing on the PFD repeatedly like the whole sim was pausing - FPS was dropping from 30 to 1 and other stuff running was losing connection to Simconnect - for example, the ACARS for the VA I am part of just disconnected from the sim - same with anything else using Simconnect.

I've never had any such issue until installing REX SkyForce so I've uninstalled it to see if that resolves it.

External limiters will try to cap the framerate but frames take different times to complete making the actual reading inconsistent. The internal frame rate target slider will produce very consistent times between frames assuming there are frames available in the look-ahead buffer.

Yes, on AMD we are kind of limited and so it is either the internal limiter or Radeon Chill where you set a minimum and maximum FPS. Thanks for the very helpful explanation.

Yes. When you use the internal P3D Display Setting fps slider it is not actually a limit, instead it displays each frame (if a frame is ready in the look ahead buffer) after a set time period determined by the slider.

Interesting - thanks. I seem to see this however I limit frames. At first I thought maybe my system couldn't maintain the say 30 fps, but it does it wherever I limit them - say even at 20 fps or 24 fps.

You can also set an fps limit in the Nvidia Control Panel, Manage 3D settings, Program Settings, Prepar3D.exe profile. Restore/Apply first and make just the fps limit to 28 and apply, close NCP. In P3D display settings, set Unlimited fps on the slider and set VSYNC=Off. You should see the fps wobble around 25 to 35.

With regard to blurry textures, this indicates a slowness in collecting and rendering scenery textures.  Start with low scenery settings, see if the blurries are gone, and if so gradually increase scenery settings.

Is the fps wobble to be expected in this scenario? I see this any time I try to apply a FPS limit outside P3D (I am on and AMD GPU, not nVIDIA).

    Yep, that is me.

I was seeing 100% on Core 0 with 5.1 but temperatures were at least 25 degrees Celsius lower. Only thing that has changed on my end is going to 5.2.

The difference with 5.2 which is the main issue I have with it, is there massive usage of the other CPU cores which are also going up to 100%, even if I have the sliders all the way to the left.

If you click on the + sign against Legacy downloads it should show you individual msi files you can download.

Thanks Ray - I am not sure why I can only see legacy client downloads, nothing for the other components other than 5.2

  14. Has anyone noticed if they are getting lower CPU usage when not limiting FPS? I know the Core 0 at 100% is common when locking FPS (how you do it, doesn't seem to matter), but oddly when I remove all FPS limiting, the core usage on Core 0 goes down to around 70% and the other cores don't spike as much - even though the sim is pushing say 80 FPS rather than a locked 30 FPS. It would be quite odd to have lower usage when pushing more FPS!

Doesn't solve things for me though because however 5.2 is working the CPU, it is causing throttling on my CPU - the same settings on 5.1 and no such temperature issues or throttling so in my experience there is either a bug with the CPU usage or 5.2 is working the cores much harder and it shows in the temperatures.

  15. I've noticed the same behaviour - I even put all the sliders to the left mid-flight (just circling Aerosoft EGLL in the NGXu) and all CPU cores were at 100% - no AI loaded at all and FPS locked at 30 externally. I also tried locking internally, but same behaviour noticed. Much higher CPU but no added performance so not sure what is going on.
