  1. Thanks for the input Carlos, it is greatly appreciated. My mainboard will support both the i5 and i7 but it is the 1156 chipset hard to find and when you do they are expensive or used. I am looking to add a main computer and then use this one in some other capacity in the sim. I will most likely look for intel on your advice, the price difference between the two is substantial so having some one's honest opinion that uses AMD was very helpful.

    Best Regards,

  2. I see we have similar set-ups only right now I have the i3. We are running the same OS and I have the same video card. I am running with 16 gigs of ram.

How do you find perfomance with your setup? I notice that my frame rates drop (depending on the scenery) and can be a little jittery at times. A little more information on your experience would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

  3. Hey Guys,

I currently am running an intel i3 with 16gig of ram, I also have a gtx 560ti, I am thinking of upgrading to another computer and using this one as a second networked computer for maps etc, maybe even some instruments, don't know for sure yet but I am gonna keep it and use it for something. I have been looking around and have found some real good deals on some systems with the fx line of AMD processors. However I do recall hearing once apon a time that AMD and X-Plane didn't get along so well. Is this still the case? Anybody got any experience in this area?

as always your input is greatly appreciated,

  4. Scot,

curiously your experience is close to mine. The uncle of a coleague of mine was a former TAP captain, of the time of the DC3, DC6, Constellations... He flew the first Caravelle that server with TAP in the 60s !!!

When he retired he decided to learn informatics, got a teacher, and after a while he was installing MSFS.

The dc-3 was one of his preferred :-) but.

This captain is also no longer with us, but I am sure he would love to test this LES dc-3 :-)

    Jcomm,

that's really cool, Jimmy also flew the Connie and was full of stories of back in the day, he was also an instructor and would coach me and taught me to treat this as a tool and a simulator not a game. That is why I only fly the small ga's mostly the 152 and 172, birds I have learned to fly. I had just started my rw ground school when I lost him on my birthday in February. It was his dream for my to get my ppl and fly him around, now it's mine to fulfill a promise and to get into the sky to be a little bit closer to him.

are there any tutorials out there that instruct on how to fly the dc-3?

    anyway cheers my friend,

  5. I bought this plane about 6 months ago and have only flown it a couple of times. Everything about it is beautiful. I originally bought it for a dear friend who was a former pilot for United. He was an fsx guy from way back and I bought this for him to fly when he visited. The only reason I don't fly it regularly is because I don't know how to keep it running :). Sadly my friend past so until I get the chance to learn how to fly it on my own it will sit in the hanger. I am wondering however if there is an update and if so will they notify me?

I sure miss my pal Jimmy, he was the one who got me interested in siming, having alot of rw hours in this plane he loved it an commented on how accurate it was modeled and flew it like a dream.

cheers guys, just my two cents and a little story bout a much missed aviator and simer.

  6. I too grow a bit impatient, however I have noticed an improvement with the latest updates, autogen seems a lot better.  I also agree it will get much better as third party developers come on board, in fact I have purchased some that I don't fly to yet just to support them. I did the same with x-plane 10. I still often fly in 9.7, but bought the 10 to support the new program. I fly GA's only and in the general area where I live which is Ontario. There are some very, very talented folks who have done some scenery for my area, but it's still pretty empty. Some folks have done the Toronto Skyline and that makes a huge difference in the emersion more then the airports for me at times.

  7. ^ Rob, It's great to hear a un biased opinion, and good for you for taking the time to find the scenery and post the pictures. I have both sims and have fs2004 as well, I enjoy both and both have their pro's and con's. I also enjoy dabbling a bit with scenery in un populated airports.... I still suck at it but am getting better :P I find it adds another dimension to the sim.

    just my two cents,

    thanks,

  8. This Sim is not perfect,We all know and understand that. But it is being constantly developed and refined,How about instead of focusing on the things we don't have,Why not use and enjoy the things we Do have.

I can go and download dozens of freeware airports that are really well done that give me that "being there" feel and fly for months without using the same one twice, also as we've seen from truscenery the payware products are picking up steam as well.

Totally agree, I much prefer "plausible" airports that have the same types of buildings placed in the correct places that a great deal of folks are producing compared to a generic airport with buildings for the sake of populating an airport. I would really like to see more land marks defining key area's in major cities and area's, famous buildings, bridges that identify those area's

  9. Does anyone have a link?

    http://aerobridge.moonfruit.com/#

Has any body tried the new version yet? Although the previous version worked fine, although somewhat incomplete, when I installed this latest version, I find that the little peninsula upon which KCGX sits is now full of trees.  Looks like Mayor Daily got his wish, which was to turn Meigs into a park and dedicate it to his wife!

I've tried it and find it great, I don't have a previous version to compare it to though. Looking at satellite and photo's though it looks pretty faithful to the real thing. I don't have the tree issue that you speak of but I have my levels in the settings set to a minimal. I find if I don't everything looks like Sherwood Forest all the time

  10. Everything is available at several websites for free, not even needed to start OSM2XP.

For a start, go to http://simheaven.de/

The guy at AWG Simulations is not serious. He promised a lot and never delivered. Furthermore, given the very uncomplete coverage of OSM in the US, this can barely be called "autogen".

I visited this sight, Just wanna check that I am on the right track here, this osm data will replace or update the osm and autogen in xp 10?

    thanks,

  11. Totally agree with you on this one Glen,

I have accepted the "All Green planet" currently offered, but I wouldn't mind paying for something that totally changes the scenery look and offers seasonal textures.

Totally agree here, I would and I think a lot of people would pay for something different, and unique, I find the area of North America and Canada especially, it really lacks and is unrealistic. Let's hope some developers step up, hopefully as we get more and more stable with 64 bit things get better.

  12. Hello Scot,

I just checked Plan-G here, (Ver 3.0 build 51) with XPlane 10.20. All is well.

What specifically is not working? Do the two connect? Is XPUIPC invoked? (from plan-g).

You said you re-installed PlanG, you don't have two copies do you?

    Chuck

    Thanks for the speedy reply,

I did not have XPUIC invoked for some reason this had defaulted back to simconnect. As I had stated before all was normal until I did the update. I did check to make sure that in fact I am only running one version of Plan-G. After a couple hours further of stupidity on my part, I enabled the "run as administrator" tab on the short cut and all was well. This is a great program and I get alot of use out of it.

Thanks again big time for the help!!

  13. I've used it for well over a year. It works great for me. I had a little trouble at first setting it up but got help from STMA Bob himself who designed the program hooked up to me via skype and was able to help me with the jumping screen issue's. It was caused in my case by lighting issue's and a few objects in the background. It does take a little while to get used to and the more you use it and practice with it you will want to adjust the settings. Try the demo, if you have issue's contact Bob and he is always more then willing to help you set it up. I've never used Tracker ir so I can't give you a comparison except for the huge difference in price, but I really enjoy it and have since bought other products as well as planes from them. IMHO they have great products.

    all the best,

    Scot
