  1. Thanks Longranger, I just wish I had known about that before now - my opinion of X-Plane has just increased immeasurably with some decent airports to fly from.
  2. My DVD1 is permanently in my DVD player so that it doesn't start up in demo mode. I also did a full load of everything so nothing I need should be missing. The Marham one I was trying to use was downloaded from the downloads on this site and put into the X-Plane folder as described above, as were all the others that won't work properly. How do I check if I have OpenScneryX available?
  3. I have been trying to use airports in x-plane 10 but with no success. I downloaded the RAF Marham one but when using that all I got was a runway in the middle of nothing but sea. I have just tried EGCC Manchester and when trying to use that the application just closes down on me after telling me it can't find a facade of some sort. I had downloaded the file EGCC Manchester International_v2F.zip and opened it to find a file - EGCC Manchester International_v2F inside. I copied this into the custom scenery folder of X-Plane 10 and tried to run it using that airport but as explained above the whole application just shut down on me. When copying it to the custom scenery folder my machine said it had a problem and had to copy it without encryption, that is the only mal indication I had. Am I doing something terribly wrong here, I have tried lots of other files like Gibralter and Gatwick but can't get any of them to actually run properly I either just get blank water with a runway or the aforementioned 'can't find a facade' type error. Any help in getting these airports actually working would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Where do I find the updater - I have X-Plane.exe and X-Plane-32bit.exe, the first tells me I have the wrong operating system and the second is what I run X-Plane with; there is also a Plane-Maker.exe and Airfoil-Maker.exe but no other exe files. In custom scenery I have KSEA Demo Area and KSEA Demo Terrain but nothing else for KSEA Sorry to be such a pain but I feel that with your geneous help I am making progress, maybe slowly, but progress nevertheless
  5. The version I have is 10.20b5 - can I go back to 10.11 without re-installing which takes hours. I thought I had tried Seattle KSEA and it had airport buildings, ramps etc but in this version there is nothing like that at Seattle now, there are one or two buildings and a couple with trucks by them but it is mostly just grass. I understand what you say about graphics cards, I have now managed to get this running at 17-19 fps which is OK for flying with (just).
  6. Thanks for the helpful comments - on balance I think I will stick with it, I am happy to invest the time but the cash is a different matter but it is a lot better flight model than FSX I think anyway, and very realistic in that respect. Just a coup[le of final questions then: Can you recommend the lowest rated graphics card to run it with a good level of scenery graphics, not necessarily the very top rates. Regarding what Longranger said about airport buildings I know I have flown from an airport where there were many buildings and ramps with aircraft on them but for the life of me can't find that again - I thought it would be Seattle but I get no airport buildings on that either - anyone know where I might have been or suggest a good airport to look at; I can even remember seeing a 747 taxiing whilst I was waiting at the end of the runway.
  7. I now have it running about 16-17 which gives good flying but the landscape is rubbish - in particulr even with Airport Detail set to high and number of objects set to too many there are no buildings at airports at all, some in the landscape but nothing at all in airports. The odd thing is that on start up it shows a frame rate of 15-16 but if I then press Q 8 times to do a 360 degree look around the frame rate then increases to 21-22 but goes back down to 16-17 after taking off. I really am getting quite angry at paying out for this package and spending far more time trying to get it set up rather than actually flying as each reset takes ages
  8. Thanks Flo, I did as you suggested and actually got a frame rate over 21 but the graphics were rubbish. Turning a couple of settings on, airport and world distance made it very slightly better and it maintained a framerate around about 17. It seems the texture and HDR settings take it down the most. Those results were in a windowed mode, reducing the size of the window, it would only go to about 3/4 of it's size, didn't seem to make any difference. Making it full screen loses about 1 point on the frame rate. I can get a HD6450 1Gb Radeon card for £35 at Maplins, would that be any good?
  9. Well, yes. The problem is that your system actually RUNS X-Plane10 - but you're stuck with very low framerates. That's what the minimum requirements tells you: It will load and "run" - nothing more. X-Plane10 needs a LOT of GPU-Power (other than FSX) and even if all your other components would be able to deliver 30 FPS your GPU will be the bottleneck and you're stuck with 10 FPS. Your GPU is really very low end, I'm sorry I can get a new graphics card with 1Gb of memory for round about £30 - would that make much difference and if not what card would you recommend?
  10. Thanks for that I will try it later this morning. Do you kow the significance of the border colour round the alt button, it has amber and green whereas the heading button just has amber. Also what is the button by the altimeter for which changes the height but doesn't seem to do much else.
  11. Thanks for the comments Flo, I appreciate them. DXDiag definitely says I have DX11 installed. Do you think I should stop using system RAM as extra VRAM, would that make a difference? The frame rates stay the same even when I up a lot of the setting to quite high ones by the way.
  12. I understand what you say about my HD 3600 but before buying XPlane I did check the specs as follows : MIn 2GHz rec 3GHz processor - mine is 2,6GHz Min 2Gb rec 4Gb memory - I have 4Gb Min Direct X 9 rec Direct X 10 - mine is Direct X 11 Min 128 Mb on board RAM rec 1Gb on board RAM - my card has 512Mb Using DXDiag on my computer tells me I have 2042Mb of VRAM So loking at those specs I ought to be able to run it fine. Any suggestions why it appears to run so slowly.
  13. I have turned on the display of frame rate and get the folowing output in my window: F-act F-sim Frame CPU 10.10 19.90 0.090 0.408 /sec /sec time load Could someone tell me what these mean and which is the frame rate I should be interested in - the manual says a rate of 19 is only just acceptable so I tried setting all the settings for maximum speed but the rates displayed stayed the same.
  14. Hi, thanks for that you are right - so may I ask what the 'on' position is actually for then and also another question, I can control heading with the heading bug and change it during flight but how do I change the altitude that I have set during flight?
  15. Hi, I am new to XPlane 10 but have the full package installed after having used the demo for a few weeks. When flying the 172 it does not seem to 'obey' the autopilot. I have it turned on and heading and altitude selected to be held but it ignores the heading bug and the flight levels I set and goes round in circles. I have come from FSX where the autopilot worked correctly and have set it using the same procedures. Is there something I should know, I have read the manual and think I am doing everything correctly but it still doesn't hold course or height properly. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
