FSX and FS2004 not getting past splash screen... Help please!
Hi Jake, Thanks for the advice. I have deleted that cfg file and still no luck I'm afraid. Things I have tried today are: Ensured my DirectX is up to date (9) Installed latest graphics card drivers Installed any updates for Windows that hadn't been up dated Tried turning off the AGP thing in dxdiag and lowering the sound acceleration to basic Also in msconfig, turned off all startup items bar Microsoft things Reinstalled FSX and FS2004 I also noticed that my RailWorks Train Sim 2013 is now also (after it's own error message about something else), doing the "memory can not be read" message. My PC is certainly not slow and other than trying to run these games, I have no performance issues with it. Thing I don't understand is they use to work and as far a I can recall, I haven't changed any major settings. Obviously something has changed but what it is I have no idea. I'm literally out of ideas as to what is causing it. I had a spare few hours the other evening and had the urge to fly... So was gutted when I found out FSX and FS2004 were both dead! I tried attached the dll.xmp file but it says I don't have permission to upload this! But this is what it says: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?> - <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0"> <Descr>Launch</Descr> <Filename>dll.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad> - <Launch.Addon> <Name>Object Placement Tool</Name> <Disabled>True</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> - <Launch.Addon> <Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name> <Disabled>True</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> - <Launch.Addon> <Name>Visual Effects Tool</Name> <Disabled>True</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> </SimBase.Document> Thanks, Matt

FSX and FS2004 not getting past splash screen... Help please!
Hi there all, I am having some issues with both my FSX and FS2004 for some reason. Both use to run ok on my PC with no issues over a year ago. I haven’t used either until now and have found neither work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both, no joy. Someone told me to try disabling my antivirus but this did not work. The symptoms are: FSX – Error window on starting up the program on the splash screen: “fsx.exe – Application Error. The instruction at “0x688f1526” referenced memory at “0xcdcdcdbd”. The memory could not be “read”. Click on OK to reminate the program.” FS2004 – Start it up, I get the splash screen, and then it just dies. The splash screens closes after a few seconds and that’s it. I do not know what is causing them both to stop. They both use to work so obviously some common setting has changed but I don’t know what. Attached are the details of my computer from the ‘DxDiag’ thing. Any help would be much appriacted as I can’t work it out and have given up Googling the answer. Thanks! Matt
