Hi Jake,
Thanks for the advice. I have deleted that cfg file and still no luck I'm afraid. Things I have tried today are:
Ensured my DirectX is up to date (9)
Installed latest graphics card drivers
Installed any updates for Windows that hadn't been up dated
Tried turning off the AGP thing in dxdiag and lowering the sound acceleration to basic
Also in msconfig, turned off all startup items bar Microsoft things
Reinstalled FSX and FS2004
I also noticed that my RailWorks Train Sim 2013 is now also (after it's own error message about something else), doing the "memory can not be read" message. My PC is certainly not slow and other than trying to run these games, I have no performance issues with it. Thing I don't understand is they use to work and as far a I can recall, I haven't changed any major settings. Obviously something has changed but what it is I have no idea. I'm literally out of ideas as to what is causing it. I had a spare few hours the other evening and had the urge to fly... So was gutted when I found out FSX and FS2004 were both dead!
I tried attached the dll.xmp file but it says I don't have permission to upload this! But this is what it says:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?>
- <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
<Descr>Launch</Descr>
<Filename>dll.xml</Filename>

<Disabled>True</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
- <Launch.Addon>
<Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>
<Disabled>True</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
- <Launch.Addon>

<Disabled>True</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>
Thanks,
Matt
