Thanks guys.  I never knew that all the components in Newegg's combos weren't compatible. that is really stupid.  Over the years I've spent 1000's at Newegg but never bought a combo.  Got all the parts in today and found out the single stick is of no use whatsoever.  According to Intel the CPU won't work with single channel and the mobo manual says the mobo will only run with dual channel.  Waiting to hear from Newegg about returning the ram- soon as I get an RMA I'll ship it back unopened and order a pair of 4gb sticks.

I've made 3 flights since posting the original message. After each flight I shut down FSRealWX first and all three times it closed properly so that may be the solution.
