  1. I'm an idiot. All the other add-on planes I've installed showed the variants. I don't think I've ever checked this box before. Gives a lot more choices, lol. Thanks, maybe I should start all over and read everything again.
  2. I installed this plane last week and the only available texture in FSX "Select Aircraft" is the plain silver. It seems a though the other textures installed in FSX but how do I select them?
  3. Thanks for the responses. Before I read the post by Irommaiden I found and checked compress textures. I've set all the object to max or one below max, enabled HDR and set antialiasing to the highest (8xxxxx) . I have the framerate locked to monitor (60), and I flew out of JFK and around that area for about 15 minutes with no problems whatsoever and framerate mostly steady at 30fps, so possibly the compressing was the answer. Have to leave now, but this evening I'll uncheck the compressing and see what happens.
  4. Well, your response highlights my limited knowledge of X-Plane. Just using the default scenery, flying the C172. Don't know exactly what my rendering settings were, and never heard of compressing the textures. Guess I need to get a little deeper into the manual.
  5. I have had X-Plane 9 and also X-Plane Regional--North America for quite some time but have never done much with either program. About 6 weeks ago I upgraded my hardware and did a fresh install of Win 7, 64bit and every thing else since I replaced the m0obo. Yesterday I decided to try X-Plane 10 updated to 10.31. I have to say I'm kind of disappointed. After some flights around my home area, I flew out of JFK and almost immediately had an "out of memory" error. I can fly out of JFK in FSX at max settings with GEX and UTX installed with smooth flights and no problems. I would say I had X-Plane at moderate settings but due to my lack of experience maybe I had higher settings than I thought, Anyway, here are my specs. Hoping someone will give me an idea of where I can set the rendering options: Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit on a Samsung SSD Gigabyte mobo GA-Z97X-SLI i5-4690K (OC 4.3) Nvidea Geforce GTX770, 2GB (superclocked) Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2x4) running at 2400 in XMP mode X-Plane installed on a Samsung 840 EVO, 250GB SSD Corsair H110 liquid Cooler To be honest, I didn't intend to buy the superclocked GPU, but when it came and I noticed my mistake I went ahead and kept it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  6. Has anyone seen/tried this? I found it someplace the other day while searching for "FSX on an SSD" What it says is start FSX, go to Task Manager, right click on FSX under Processes, then left click on Affinity where you will see all the boxes checked. Uncheck all but 1st core and click OK. Then go back to Affinity and recheck all boxes which will force FSX to use all 4 cores. I've never heard of it, but decided to try it. BUT, I don't have the "Affinity" option. I'm using Win 7, Home, 64bitt. .
  7. Thanks guys. I never knew that all the components in Newegg's combos weren't compatible. that is really stupid. Over the years I've spent 1000's at Newegg but never bought a combo. Got all the parts in today and found out the single stick is of no use whatsoever. According to Intel the CPU won't work with single channel and the mobo manual says the mobo will only run with dual channel. Waiting to hear from Newegg about returning the ram- soon as I get an RMA I'll ship it back unopened and order a pair of 4gb sticks.
  8. I bought a mobo, cpu, ram combo from Newegg yesterday and didn't notice until today that the ram is one 8gb stick. Stuff is already shipped. I know that normally single channel will slow a computer very marginally, but what effect on FSX? My old RAM is 1600 and the new mobo won't take it.
  9. You got it olli. The virtual cockpit is not modeled. In the 2d cockpit the instrument panel shows up and is fully functional, but that's all that shows up in cockpit view, no airplane, lol. Well, that's OK with me. In my initial post I mentioned the Garmin 1500, but I was distracted at the time. There are two aircraft in the installation, and the second one is what I wanted to check out. It has the Garmin 430 and the 530 fully functional-- I haven't seen these instruments before and was interested. Flying this plane will be rather strange with no propeller, etc, but all the normal controls-- flaps, gear, etc, work even though invisible. But it's the instruments I'm interested in. I wish I knew enough about programming to put the 430/530 panel in one of the FSX planes. Would you happen to know of a fully modeled payware plane with these instruments? Glad you responded, I probably wouldn't have thought of that. I almost always use virtual cockpit Thank you.
  10. This is strange. I've installed a lot of aircraft in FSX (freeware and paid) but never ran into this problem. In any of the outside views the airplane is visible and I can fly it; however in "cockpit view" nothing shows up but the runway and scenery. I start the engine and take off down the runway, I hear the engine, see the scenery going by, etc but I have to switch to an outside view to see the plane and what it's doing. This is an unimportant aircraft (freeware) that I installed today to get a feel for the version of the Garmin 1500 that the plane is supposed to have installed. The plane is called PoMansMeridian III GC, and I downloaded it from fs2x.com My real interest now is finding out why all the views show up except the cockpit view.
  11. Thanks. Too used to FSX I guess, I've been using it pretty much since it came out and have it running great. Wanted to install FS2004 and see what challenges it poses. Mostly I've been working on trying to get rid of the blurries. Guess I'd better read up on FS2004, I thought a lot of this stuff would work as it does in FSX. Wonder what other surprises are in store, lol.
  12. I've had FS2004 for a long time but have not really used it. The other day I installed it on it's own drive and have a problem I've never experienced before--- None of the options on the ATC box can be clicked on. ATC opens and closes normally and I can hear ground control and tower giving instructions to other aircraft but it will not allow me to request taxi and take off. When I'm inflight I cannot make any selection either. Am I missing something?
  13. Followed Nickn's procedures and did a clean reinstall of FSX/ Acceleration, GEX USA, UTX, and Ultimate Alaska. Everything is great except for something I've never heard of before--- When I do shift/Z Z to bring up the framerate, it shows over the menu bar. I can see the menu bar OK, but to see the framerate I have to close the menu bar. Anyone hear of or experience this? The other thing is minor, but when I set FSX to Easy under realism for my grandson, autorudder doesn't take effect
  14. I've made 3 flights since posting the original message. After each flight I shut down FSRealWX first and all three times it closed properly so that may be the solution. Thanks for the responses; and Admin, I'll try to select the correct forum in the future.
