  1. Agree.

And as I understand it, it wasn't just a link to buy it, it was a link to an illegal source to download it.    That can never be justified.   I am sure if someone shared a pirated link to a PMDG product we would all be rightly outraged;  why would it be different for a payware XP10 product?  .......... maybe she was not as naive as you all think.

Also blatently discussing the fact that a banned member is 'back using an other ID' is a bit naive;  I know the AVSIM Staff can search by IPs so her 'new' ID may well now be discovered and banned also, as a result of those of you choosing to discuss that in public.           - rightly or wrongly.

    Just an opinion.

many people use this, impossible to ban these people:

    http://hidemyass.com/  over 50 000 ip's in over 62 countries.

it was her download link from her email...not a pirate site.

I found it a bit ironic when she opened an .org account, explained her banning from here on her profile page, and then immediately got banned from there too...

she's still at the .org and here under different login names.

  3. Just took off from Sarnia, Ont. this morning at 7:25, and am heading north, following the lake.

I have the Bloom and Flare effect enabled, as well as (always...) Shade doing its 'thang.

Bloom has an amazing effect upon Orbx's FSX Global.  The street lights below me, have a very high and bright intensity, and that eastern-rising sun this morning, highlighting a scattered cloud base of 3,500 feet burns so hot and bright under the effect of Bloom, that you can almost FEEL its heat intensity.  I love how the Bloom/Flare combo effect highlights and brightens a swath of forest below my right wing, and actually I have never seen that effect before, where the forest is as dark as you'd expect at around 7:30 in the morning, but yet that ray of sun (yes...rays...wow...) brings the highlights of the trees up within the scope of its beam.

FSX has never looked more real life than this morning.

If your system can pull off Bloom and Flare with satisfactory FPS performance...than I recommend you try it..and stay with it for at least a solid 2 weeks.  It is different, in the way it renders up your virtual world. I believe that you need time to 'mind adjust' to the difference as it creates a fully 'live and breathing' atmosphere you are now flying through.  Trust me, it is worth turning on, and with Bloom, Flare, and the program Shade,....well...it really is...'as real as it gets'.  FSX with the above turned on, and flying over FSX Global, has given me as close to being inside an aircraft at my present cruise of 3,500 as I am ever going to get, other than laying down the cash for my P.P.L.

Bloom and Flare effect, is the final lock-down to a virtual world where FSX truly mimics what is happening outsider your computer room....

Good morning all, and now back to my flight...going up North to close up the cottage...  (wink,nudge...)

Post Edit:  I just had to pause the flight and come back here to report a new visual that I have never seen...never seen in FSX, and now so cool!-----> To set up the scene in your mind, I am flying about 1.5 miles to the east of the lake shore, and all the communities with their homes near, or at the lake shore to my direct west (GSX Global, at Extremely Dense)...have a very bright eastern facing wall of the homes.  WOW..but does this look so true world.  The sun is shining off of the eastern faces of the homes, and muted on the south wall, of as I fly north, can see.  A pretty downright amazing true-to-life effect by the sun, that Bloom affords you.  What I love best about FSX, is how it can give your mind, the cues to what you see every day around you, at any time of the 24 hour cycle. Bloom and Flare opens that door to your monitor....:)

    Mitch

from Xplane10 to FSX    you have a lot of positive posts in the Xplane10 forum....what changed your mind?

  4. This is a kind of "strange": no X-Plane update for around 3 months and people get nervous and/or anxious that development has slowed down/stopped/...

What did they do between the release of FS9 and FSX (3 years !!!)? Were they also this nervous? And as the PMDG 777 wasn't released within a few months, but also needed years to develop, were people nervous/anxious that development has slowed down/stopped/...?

As some people may have noticed , I like to do comparisons with other situations from real life: if e.g. Audi doesn't release some words/pictures/... about the development of their new A4 every few weeks or months, I don't care - I know they are working on it as ever before, I am absolutely sure about this.

But it seems to be a phenomenon these days - I need my news every day, every hour, every second. On the other hand, when getting news within a few days, hours, seconds and there isn't a huge step forward during this time, people are disappointed why development is this slow. Guys ... good work needs time - think about your own job.

EDIT: the longer you hear nothing, the bigger the step will be compared to the previous release, as LR is working at the same pace as always. It was this way ever since I'm using X-Plane (over 6 years).

Updates within a short time = smaller steps. Updates within a longer time = bigger steps. That's what common sense tells me, isn't it? So, calm down and FLY :p0504: .

I agree.......also your videos are awesome Mr. Piper   :drinks:

  5.

    Re-read:

But unfortunately not realistic. None of the 3 flight system laws are correctly simulated.

The PMDG 777 has a problem with the interpretation of some aspects of the Normal Law, but even with that small quirk, it does a tremendous job at simulating the kind of "support" the Boeing variant of the Fly-By-Wire provides, and is completely inexistant on the FF 777. Probably that is the reason why you find the FF 777 more interesting to handfly...

On the real thing, and in the PMDG 777, when handflying you can start a turn and it'll keep you level on the flightpath up to 30º bank.

It'll also keep your flightpath when changes in configuration ( flaps, gear, spoilers ) or thrust are operated.

JComm already replied to a question about the particular model, a few replies down from the original.

    ok thanks

  6. Hi jcomm, sorry but do you mean the flight system laws on the FF aren't correctly simulated?

I personally find that when hand flying the FF it feels a bit 'unwieldy' especially during the initial climb out where it seems difficult to keep the pitch stable even with the proper trim setting (which again is calculated completely differently from the PMDG). I'll admit I'm not well versed in the scientific aspects of flight modelling particularly FBW but understand there are 3 laws that operate this in the 777 and in the FF it seems like they tried to implement some kind of FBW simulation but just doesn't 'feel' right (difficult to explain as not my background).

One major noticeable thing is the fixed CG on the FF so you'll always end up with the same trim settings because of this. This is probably due to the fact that you can't directly modify the weight of each section of the plane, for example passengers and cargo.

I think he was talking about fsx and PMDG 777  :Nerd:

  7. I thoroughly enjoy the PMDG 777, and I have never tried the other one.  I tried the X Plane demo for 2 hours and then deleted it.  Everything is completely different.  The key commands especially.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: Laminar could bring so many more people over to X Plane if they added some commonality to FSX.  Having to relearn hundreds of brand new assignments and key commands is not enjoyable to me...and I'm sure that I'm not alone.

it took me a few minutes to learn the xp10 key commands

  8. Both are good sims.

    Both have great add-ons.

    Both have bad add-ons.

Both can be used to simulate flight in a plausible representation of the World.

One will continue to be developed. It's in permanent development...

The other is being kept alive artificially thanks to the tallent of the original design team, those Mighty Aces, and to the excellent add-ons that are still being made available.

More than people claiming that MSFS's flight dynamics model is bad, what really flips me is to read some add-on manuals where this and that limitations are allways excused through the things the Aces did wrong... What a great great simulation platform they designed that still today, next to 64 bit simulators, can provide such a great time to it's users, and so much money to 3pds...

    I agree, great post jc

  9. PMDG 777 wins by a mile.

    -Better flight model

    -More features

-Insanely accurate exterior model ( Ramzzess 777 has noticeable flaws in the exterior model )

Not going to go deep in here but go for PMDG 777. You won't be disappointed.

-flight models for helis and planes are better and more realistic in xp10

-xp10 payware come with accurate weather radars and an EFB to view pdf's of Airport Approaches

-the xp10 777 has HDR Lighting, heat blur, rain effects, ice effects,  and other goodies

I fly both and enjoy both.
