I was not aware of undervolting but quickly found a number of Youtube videos which look easy enough. I am assuming you mean getting the RTX2080 TI 2 fan (TWO 8 pin power connector) rather than the RTX4060 TI (ONE 8 pin power connector)? I do too but mainly as it has 11GB vram.

Good point. My PSU is a Coolermaster Elite V3 600 watts and the recommended psu for the 3 fan card is 650 watts! Strangely MSI also recommend a 650 watt psu for the 2 fan card even though it'a power consumption is only 250 watts compared to 300 watts for the 3 fan. That seems strange ie one consumes 250 watts and the other 300 watts but they recommend a 650watt psu for both. Gosh you need to be careful when upgrading. Looks like the rtx4060 TI is the 'way to go' for me as its output is only very slightly slower than the rtx2080 TI and my psu and power plugs are suitable.

I found 2ns hand rtx4060 Ti for almost the same cost as an rtx2080 Ti HOWEVER they only have 8Gb vram (not 11) and I'm not sure if 3Gb less vram would be noticed with Flight Simulator 2024 which suggest 8Gb recommended 12Gb ideal I have found a few RXT2080 Ti cards with 11Gb Vram. Now I have hit a slight 'hurdle'. The MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Trio 11Gb has 3 fans and 2 X 8 pin power connectors and one 6 pin power connector and I only have 2 X 8 pin plugs. There is an MSI Geforce RTX2080 Ti Ventus 11Gb which seems to be built on the same 'platform' and with only 2 X 8 pin power connectors but only 2 fans. So maybe it is slightly noisier as the and may need to turn faster? Should I be concerned that it only has 2 fans (and less cooling fins)? I note that even the rtx4060 Ti comes with either 2 or 3 fans.

I looked for an AMD video card within my budget and found the RX6700XT 12Gb and while the base clock and boost clock were significantly better than the rtx2080Ti a comparison fps running the same software had them about equal if FPS. In some games the RX6700 was slightly better and in others the rtx2080Ti was slightly better. Prices were similar for both and as such I would lean towards the nvidia card although the RX6700 has an extra 1Gb vram.

Any video card which has a minimum 8Gb Vram preferably =>11Gb and is as fast as a rtx2080. I will have to research what AMD cards 'fit' that criteria as I know nothing about them. I will start with the 9060XT and then 'Google' Compare rtx2080 Ti with (say) 9060XT which often results in a youtube video showing screen results including fps side by side. A quick look on Ebay didn't find any 9060XT with 16GB vram less than $A800! Way over my budget.

AS a self-funded retiree I like to budget well and that is why I am trying to keep the cost under $A500 which means I will have to go used/second hand. There is a shop nearby which sells then second hand with a 5 year warranty but of course there are probably terms and conditions. They have an rtx 2080 Ti 11Gb in my price range but maybe also AMD cards. And I'm only hoping to get around 50fps with graphics settings around 'medium'.

Thanks. A long time ago I read that nVidia works better with MSFS than Radeon. Not sure if that is true anymore. I note that your setup has an nVidia graphics card.

I purchased Patriot 2x18gb DDR4 3600 cl18 but it would not work with XMP enabled or disabled and so I got it to work after I changed the (bios ram) speed from auto to 3200. The DDR4 I replaced was 3200 cl16. I have them plugged into the same slots ie 1 and 3. I understand that the resulting throughput speed of 3600 cl18 is much the same as 3200 cl16. If I want faster ram I will have to change the m/b I guess. Where should I notice any difference running MSFS2024 with 32Gb ram? I understood it would prevent/assist with stutters. Now I need to try and work out what graphics card to replace the rtx2060 OC 6Gb. I understand that amount of graphics memory has an effect but don't know if a rtx2080 SUPER 8gb or a rtx2080 Ti 11gb would be best? A comparison of speeds ie fps have them similar but will MSFS2024 use the extra 3 gb GDDR6 on the rtx2060 Ti 11Gb?

"most of what you'll find out there is going to be 3600MHz kits." So I have found out. I purchased a Patriot Viper 2X16gb kit which is 3600 cl18 and would not work with my m/b with or without XMP enabled. When I changed the speed from auto to 3200 it works. The DDR4 I replaced was 2x8gb 3200 cl16.

Microsoft recommend 32Gb ram for MS2024 but no mention of ram speed which could be anything from 2133Mhz or more. How important is the speed of the ram and what is the recommended minimum speed for 32Gb? Thanks

Hopefully this will 'resurrect' this thread. I decided to start with more RAM and then later a better graphics card. Unfortunately I purchased 2 X 16GB 3600Mhz modules which my motherboard does not support. Enabling XMP (which the ram supports) prevents the PC from booting up. Disabling XMP does not allow me to select a speed faster than 2133 even though the motherboard supports 2133/2400/2666. The reason for 'resurrecting'? Microsoft recommend 32Gb ram for FS2024 but the speed is not mentioned. How important is ram speed? What is the minimum I should accept? I have the 2 modules installed in slots 1 and 3. Would slots 2 and 4 make any difference?

I see recommendations for size of RAM (eg 32Gb for MSFS2024), but ram speed is never mentioned. Would say 32Gb of 2133 work ok or should the ram have a faster speed?

BTW how do I backup these profiles as well as camera views I create inside the cockpit for different view of the instruments (using say the numpad) or are they preserved and not overwritten by updates and/or the possibility of having to reinstall? Hooley Dooley 2024 has a function to export/import individual profiles. Yippee

Thanks, I would never have thought to look in the COCKPIT section HOWEVER when I looked I could not find EXTERNAL VIEW MODE. Would you explain please and/or a screen shot. Also is there a method to 'deassign' and incorrecty assigned action? Thanks

I have managed to create a new profile for my joystick and assigned buttons to my preferences. However I can't work out how to assign one button which will act as a toggle between external camera view and cockpit (pilot) camera view. I was able to do this in 2020. There are so many 'actions' to choose from but I can't find ones which will do as I want. I notice that under cameras there are subsections for cockpit and external. Can anyone advise which action to assign as all the ones I have tried don't work. I assumed that I need to assign 'toggle cockpit pilot' and 'toggle external' but it won't work Thanks

Firstly I don't get the warning (vram) in 2020 with the same airport and scenery (my creation at CAM9) and I didn't get the warning until after the su6 upgrade in 2024. From what I have been reading the warning message is more annoying than factual and there is something at flightsim.to (already mentioned above by another person) which what installed gets rid of the message. HOWEVER the instructions seem to be for the STEAM edition and I have the shop edition which has a different file structure. I will try the other one mentioned above which has a simple installation Oh and yes as others have suggested in another forum and/or thread, I have decided to look for an RTX 2080 Ti OC11gb graphics card. Also replacing 16Gb DDR4 3200 with 32Gb. Just wondering if DDR4 3200 CL16 would be noticeable compared to DDR4 3200 CL18 (lower CL)

thanks I haven't got a new graphics card. I was going to wait anyway to see if 6gb handles the graphic setting which gives me an image I am satisfied with. I was just puzzled that I got the warning when I hadn't changed anything.

I am in the process of upgrading my graphics car from a 6Gb one to minimum 8Gb HOWEVER since I purchased and installed MSFS2024 I have never got this warning before using that SAME airport (actually one which I created). I have NOT changed any graphics settings. Could something else have changed them such as (sneaky) Asobo? Which settings should I change and when I get my new graphics card do I need to change graphics settings or does 'the system' automatically detect a better graphics card and adjust the graphics settings?

I had little trouble assigning joystick buttons to 'actions' in 2020 but even after watching 2 or 3 youtube videos I am ready to throw in the towel. I just want to create a special profile for say piston engined aircraft. Things such as Specific Control Name which is showing NONE and is locked ie I can't change it. I search for Camera and then select Toggle External View then press button 2 and it displays button 7. All I want to do is set up a profile for all (say) piston engined aircraft with the following button assignments (I am using names I see in 2020) Button Assignment 1 Brake 2 Camera Cockpit/External view toggle 3 4 5 6 Landing gear toggle 7 Elevator Down 8 Elevator Up 9 Flaps Increase 10 Flaps Decrease 11 Parking Brake toggle Can anyone suggest correct sets to do this please? Obviously only the first 1 or 2 assignments are required as I guess the rest will be the same procedure. Thanks.

Very interesting. I always thought that prices in Oz were expensive than other countries and sometimes cheaper buying overseas and paying extra for freight.

It seems that replacing my 16Gb ram with 32gb could be a good starting point as it seems that 2024 uses a lot of streaming Then upgrade my graphics card to at least rtx2080 Then maybe upgrade cpu to one which has more than 6 cores. I never ran 2020 with extreme graphics and so not too interested in that. I will cost that out allowing for some return on my replaced hardware and compare to a new pc but I bet it is cheaper than a new pc - yes I know I would have all new hardware with a new pc.

Thanks Mace. I currently has16Gb (2 sticks) memory so considering replacing with 32Gb (2 sticks fitted to slots 1 and 2) as others have also suggested rather than mixing. Someone mentioned fitting to slots 1 and 4 but maybe that is only if they are not a kit (factory matched pair). Do you know if 2024 uses threads fully and they can affect performance ie can 2024 run better with an intel cpu with 16 threads rather than 8? And if so is the improvement noticable?

Thanks. I had forgotten tomshardware forum so posted there about mixed ram and it seems that ram should be in matched pairs and that 2 X 16Gb is better than 4 X 8Gb and as Bob also mentioned. Also trouble is finding NEW ram as my pc is 6 years old and DDR4 3200 is not available new anymore. Maybe a better graphics card is better. I think size of ram affects stutters only? My system briefly is i7 9700K cpu Gigabyte Z390 m/b 16Gb DDR4 3200 Gigabyte RTX2060 6Gb OC graphics card 500gb M.2 SATA ssd plus 2 SATA 3 ssd 34" Gigabyte monitor Windows 10 - please don't beat me up. Nothing overclocked unless the computer shop did without my knowledge when they built it for me 6 years ago.
