  1. Anders,

it takes courage to publicly apologize and explain yourself these days. Thank you for your fine example! Others wouldn't even admit that they were rude and keep on. That's why online debates become so suddenly toxic.

    Thanks again.

  2. If ceteris paribus the same exact FSW was done by PMDG (or the now legendary "consortium"), how many of DTG's most hostile critics would now praise the same product as the Second Coming? Just wondering how much criticism is just brand fetish.

I really wonder why even PMDG's Robert Randazzo had to retaliate with his long announcement which read by the way as if DTC were always the *bad guys* and they (the "consortium") were always the *good guys* defending our holy flight sim community from foul players. With all due respect for PMDG and other companies, but they are businesses, too, and their market does not live by love for the community alone. Their carefully developped public image as the top notch sim devs and the community's *good guys* is a part of their business plan too, and there's nothing wrong with it!

However to say, as others still do, DTG was just in for the quick money, after people barraged FSW so hard from day one, is a bit... little differentiated.

All of a sudden that $200 flight sim investment I've yet to make seems a lot easier to swallow.  BTW, I never could get into FSW, too many loose ends, though I was really hoping that it would succeed.

I took the chance and bought most of the addons in the hope that FSW would thrive. That was arguably naive. I can see why many people were reluctant in joining in when there was no complete program.

Despite all my disappointment I nevertheless thank the developpers for their promising work. FSW was better than its reputation.

I'm sorry, I don't understand this remark. The sim was really cheap for what it was and you'll still have it and can use it once it is removed from sale. My guess is most of your addons you have in other sims cost more than FSW alone :).

You're right, Tony. Got FSW very cheap, but I also bought literally ALL addons which sums up to a price I would have probably spent better on P3D/XP11. Never again, early-access DLC.

  5. So, here go my money and hopes flushed through the toilet. I learn from mistakes the hard way. I don't begrudge the people who allegedly knew from the start and their tad of schadenfreude. But I still can't be "sad" about FSW's demise, I am more angry. They outlined a greater future and then bang! How could I have been so naive with all the bad omen?

Why do they even bother selling it until May 24th? They should end it right here.

Depends on what you do with it... do you just follow a magenta line, then yes. Boring. Do you study the systems and want to know the airplane like the guy on whose seat you are sitting.. challenging and not boring.

    Donor or not.

This is probably not the sub-forum for you.

I fly many aircraft, in many different ways.

    For instance; this was my Flight Plan tonight;

A Harrier AV-8B Off from South of England, then a swap into the Poseidon at Yeovil.

It's not all about the Magenta Line my son.

I‘ve learnt there are people buying accusimmed airplanes and turn accusim off... so what... I purchase study level addons for a reason...

There are people flying here who, really haven't RTFM as well. ;-)

Relax, people. One may well like study level sims and even RTFM but does not wish another Boeing. That's all. No need for a demonstration of FS elitism.

  7. FSGU NG is the more comprehensive package and FSG2018 lacks some of its features, like deep-sea data for P3D and local meshes for particular areas, the so-called "showcases". It also has more resolution (1m). I use FSGU (got the DVD version though, which takes a very long time to install), it adds about 80GB to your drive. Compatible with FSX/SE, P3D (all versions) and now FSW.

    Hope this helps.

Aw man what a great song! The Platters were fantastic! I think I'll stream it while I'm preflighting my QOTSII for another great visually stunning OOM free flight in my P3DV4! Or should I say simulating per the EULA?

Glad you like it. The poor wretch who happens to be layman me is per law not entitled to P3D (and probably other FSX users, too), so I must enviously wait for your stream and walk on to FSW.

  9. Hi Thunderbolt44,

    welcome to Avsim!

You must first download, install and create an account on Steam (all free), which is a gaming platform, on which many other games and apps can be bought and run, including Dovetail Games FSW.

    http://store.steampowered.com/

FSW is also hosted on Steam. You can buy FSW either directly on Steam (just search for it) or in the Dovetail store. In the latter case, which I went by last week, you buy a register code for the game which you manually activate on Steam. Be aware, that there are often sales, so best you compare if you can get FSW cheaper before buying.

    https://store.dovetailgames.com/eu/de/product/442173/flight-sim-world

In either case, the FSW files will be automatically downloaded and installed in the main Steam folder (which you assigned on install). Downloadable content (DLC), i.e. addons like new planes, missions and scenery, can be bought the same way. Once set up, all is very easygoing and safe. When you screw up your files, they can be redownloaded time and again.

    Hope this helps.

  10. Again we should stress that P3D is the academic/professional side of the ESP branch whereas FSW is the entertainment one. I wonder how many P3D users are at first seeking entertainment in a modern sim since the halt of MS/ACES. Moaning that FSW doesn't take off as an EE Lightning during scramble seems a bit unfair to me after LM have more or less lead the newcomer/upgrader market since P3D's inception because of the lacking alternatives, now more so with the advent of 64bit simming.

Let's please not be so spoilt and impatient to the point that we criticize DTG for all the child's illnesses. Rome was not built on one day either and DTG are not LM. I support FSW against all early death calls because as a layman just seeking entertainment (advanced one for sure), I don't have the option to change to P3D.

    1.  Bug fixes (many many many of them that were in the FSX-SP2 code base used for ESP).

    2.  Dynamic Reflections

    3.  Dynamic Lights

    4.  Cloud Shadows

    5.  HDR providing much more vibrant lighting and color (and "maybe" PBR in future release)

    6.  Increased Autogen density and view distance that goes considerably further than any flight sim currently on the market, even AF2 (mind boggling far if you make a couple of Prepar3d.cfg changes and have the processing power to work with it)

    7.  Tessellation that brings more geometry subdivisions to terrain providing a subtle but more granular world

    8.  Additional shadow options and quality settings

    9.  Better "native" AA support with SSAA

    10.  Better performance when "similar" graphics settings are used even on older hardware

    11.  Improved threading support for gauges, terrain, and more

    12.  Additional Reflection options

    13.  New SDK features and functionality from SpeedTrees creation (true 3D dynamic trees that move based on wind speed) to controller options to ScaleForm objects in the VC to many other new SDK options we've yet to see be implemented by 3rd party.

    14.  Avatar mode (that keeps improving with ability to interact with aircraft/vehicles)

    15.  GPS data broadcasting

    16.  True volumetric water that responds to weather

    17.  Much improved snow/rain effects (detailed precipitation option)

    18.  Ability to calibrate controllers natively in P3D and options to use RAW input or Direct input

    19.  Improve visibility and weather features with Volumetric Fog

    20.  Windshield effects (enabled via SDK also)

    21.  Move from DX9 to a much more efficient DX11 graphics API

    22.  Continued development and NOT static

I could go one, but  you did ask :)

That's probably how George Lucas defended the Special Edition and the second trilogy, too... ;-)

Less is often more (economical), one should concentrate on the basics, something no better graphic or programme gimmick will ever deliver for you. So, even FS9 still goes fresh (see Historic Jetliners Group and California Classic Propliners)... and I'm 32!
