  1. Morning, Just a bit of an update. Last night I delved into FSX, deleted all joystick axis assignments and then went through the process of axis assignment and calibration using FSUIPC. Initially I was having very odd results but after a handful of deletes and restarts, this started to improve however I was still getting reverse thrust and Speedbrake activation in the 'idle' position. During the calibration phase on the throttles I then ticked the 'No Reverse' box in the top left of the panel, saved the calibration and entered the sim, I STILL had reverse thrust. Then, and I don't know why, I decided to set the MIN band a tiny bit forward of the fully aft position. So I entered the calibration screen, entered the MAX settings but when it came to the MIN settings I nudged the throttles forwards ever so slightly, I think the MIN figure read 16, then press SET, saved the settings, entered the sim and VOILA!!! No reverse. I still haven't managed to get the Airbus throttles to work but I have the PMDG 737 & 777 working along with every other aircraft so I'm chalking that up as a win. I'm still looking into a fix for the Airbus.
  2. For a while when I was working through a few kinks the flight would load with engines idling, nudge the throttles and they'd both shoot to 50% N1 and the that would be my idle setting on the throttle unit itself. Taking the throttles to max power would then obviously increase power to 100% in sim. Ticking Invert (Airbus) or Reverse (FSX) would then flip things, funnily enough. So nudging the throttles would send them to 100% in sim but idle throttle position but pushing the throttles fully forward would reduce power to 50% N1. At the point I decided to venture into the merky world of FSUIPC and managed to assign my thottles in there however it worked for PMDG and all other aircraft except the Airbus.
  3. Great, thanks for your help Rick. I'm just reading the guide to FSUIPC now. I can recall setting the throttle count to 2 in the Airbus Configuration program on Saturday, so I'll be sure to rectify that. Cheers!
  4. Hi Rick, thanks for the link to the tutorial, I'll definitely check it out and finally get to grips with FSUIPC. So by the sounds of it, I'm best off scrapping all axis assignments on H.U.D, FSUIPC and FSX and starting from scratch just using FSUIPC? With regards to the Airbus bits you mentioned, would that be done in FSUIPC or the Airbus Configuration program?
  5. Morning one and all, After much deliberation I took the plunge on Friday and bought the X55 and 'wasted' (in my fiancées eyes) the weekend on FSX configuring the controls. Having not being able to get the throttles to work on the Aerosoft A318/319, I gave up and moved onto the PMDG 737NGX and 777 with much more success. However, I knew before buying that the X55 doesn't have a reverse thrust detent, I've set the Speedbrake thumb slider on the throttle for that. The issue I'm having is that when I take the thottles back to idle, a bit of reverse thrust is kicking in, the speedbrakes are deploying and V1, Vr & V2 are getting thrown out of the FMC. Over the course of the weekend, I was trying various things to get the Aerosoft throttles to work and off the top of my head I can't recall how things are currently setup for General FSX use. I was a bit reluctant to use FSUIPC at first, if I'm honest I don't really understand it however, I have used it to map the throttle for 'axis throttle set 1' (left hand throttle) and a 'axis throttle set 2' (right hand throttle). I know that I mapped it through the H.U.D. Software, FSUIPC and calibrated it through FSX itself so I'm assuming that there's a conflict somewhere along the line with softwares. I was wondering if anyone else is having or has had the same issue in the past and can shed any light on the culprit before I go forth and 'waste' more time in trying to find the issue and hope I stumble upon it. Many thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me. Luke
  6. Afternoon everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good mansion or big house scenery object that I can download and add to a private airfield I'm building using Flight1 Instant Scenery. I used to have one which was a lovely wooden building with stone columns in the corners and either side of the doors but I can't remember what scenery (add on) it was part of. If anyone can recommend a good mansion or house to use, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  7. Yeah I think you're right. For the sake of a probably unnoticable performance boost, I'd rather stick to the right voltage around. On pcpartspicker it said there was an incompatibility for my original choice of 2400. I'll look into those Mobos and see if it would benefit me to change, this build is getting more and more expensive haha. With regards to the case, I really want a white case. I liked the rubber grommets to aid air flow and keep things all tidy. There's also a good number of fans. I'm going to be building a little plinth platform for the tower to sit on and also install some dust filters that I can change on a regular basis. I'm also going to get some kind of cover for the tower when not in use. On my current pc, the top fan has quit and you wouldn't believe how much dust gets in there.
  8. Hey Guys, sorry for the delay in replying. Django, yeah I like your thinking regarding the drives. SSD for my OS, one SATA3 simply for FSX and one for the 'other' software i.e. REX, Active Sky Next etc. Regarding the RAM, I've recently been doing some more reading up on the stuff and how it all work, so I'll be looking into possibly changing that in my actual 'finished' build. But lets face it, no build is ever truly finished is it. I'm really pleased that people seem to like my proposed set up, hope fully it'll give the performance Ive wanted for a long time. Although with my wedding coming up next August, I think my purchases might have to go somewhat under the radar ^_^ I'd really like to know peoples thoughts on Prepar3d Vs FSX? I know Prepar3d looks great and looks like its supported better by LM but is it worth making the jump from FSX just yet? Again, thanks in advance!! Django, I've just remember why I've opted for 2133 over 2400 RAM. Its to do with the voltage of the RAM slots in the mother board, it'll only support up to 1.5 volts. ** UPDATE ** This is taken from the PC Parts Picker site, with regards to selecting RAM with a hight voltage of 1.5volts. Its to do with the processor, not motherboard, my mistake. The Kingston Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.
  9. This is the revised set-up so far - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/fRrPNG
  10. Hey guys, I've updated the parts that you questioned at its bumped the cost up to nearly £1400, damn I have expensive taste!! Admittedly I have added a second smaller SSD simply to install FSX on its own. I remember reading somewhere that FSX operates better if you can install stall it on its own drive. I've changed the graphics card to an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW ACX 2.0 Video Card, the WD HDD to a Black, changed the 840 evo to an 850evo and swapped out the cooler for a corsair H80i. Do you think that I can achieve some pretty decent results with this kind of set up?
  11. Afternoon All, I've been spending some time putting together a list of components for building myself a new PC. Primarily I'll be building it around FSX but as a photographer I've also compiled the components with Adobe Photoshop CS in mind. I think I've covered all bases relatively well but please feel free to post comment and suggestions for any alterations you think I should consider. I'll be using my current monitor which is ilyama Prolite B2409HDS, I guess its getting on a bit now but I think a monitor upgrade can wait for now. CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Motherboard - Asus Z97-E ATX LGA1150 RAM - G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Drives - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Graphics Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card CPU Cooler - Thermaltake Water 3.0 Performer 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Case - Fractal Design Define R4 (Arctic White) ATX Mid Tower Case PSU - Fractal Design Newton R3 800W 80+ Platinum Certified Semi-Modular ATX Optical Drive - LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) All in all, this lot comes in at £1175 and hopefully will see out maybe 5-6 years Please feel free to comment and post advice or suggestions. Thanks in advance. Luke Harvey
