  1. Hi all I have a PC that I built specifically for MSFS and now only fly in VR. It has the following specs Intel i9-9900K @3.6GHz MSI MS-7B18 Motherboard 32mb RAM 2TB SSD Nvidia GeForce 2070 NZXT Cooler Hard wired into 1GB internet Occulus 2 wired connection MSFS boxed version I'm not getting the performance i'd like. VR is ok with the basic aircraft but with PMDG it's hit and miss. I usually fire up MSFS and then go to the Occulus desktop and Ctrl+Tab into VR. The game is unplayable and hangs plus has black areas with no visuals if I turn my head. I need to have the tray tool open and this makes things better but every now and then swap to it and click save as it seems to go back to hanging up and stuttering. I have heard people talk about openXR but not sure if I should be using that. Is this just for the Steam version? I built my PC but just plugged it all in and turned it on, is there any configurating I can do to improve things? I have heard about overclocking, should I try that? Any help would be much appreciated. I just got the Fenix A320 but it is unplayable even with the settings that runs ok in PMDG and saving the tray tool.
  2. Thanks guys, I know the card is the weak spot but I will wait for the price of the 1080's to come down. The main thing for me was building a decent base with a good CPU and plenty of power and cooling. All the parts arrived yesterday and I started the build, that case is huge! I will update when it is working and maybe put a video on youtube showing how it runs. What is generally considered the best software for monitoring and testing settings in a new system?
  3. The GPU was the compromise in order to get the processor/MB and cooling setup I wanted. I can see this getting upgraded in the future and the 1050 going to my son but it seemd the easiest thing to change later without affecting anything else. Hopefully it won't cause too much of an issue.
  4. Hi Further to my previous thread I have now decided to move to P3D V4 from FSX. As my old FSX PC has been claimed by my son I have also decided to build my own PC solely for P3D use. I have never built a PC before and looked at pre built ones but decided to try and build my own, both as a fun project and so I would know exactly what went in and could upgrade as I go if/when I need to. I have also read a lot that P3D is more reliant on processor rather than graphics card so thought I would spend on that and save on on the graphics card, this can always be upgraded easily later if need be. As a result I will be getting delivered tomorrow: Intel 7th Generation Core i7 (7700K) 4.2GHz Asus RoG Strix Z270F Gaming Intel LGA1151 Z270 Motherboard NZXT Kraken X52 (240mm) AIO CPU Water Cooling Unit Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) Memory Kit PC4-22400 3200MHz DDR4 DIMM Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC 4GB Graphics Card Samsung 850 EVO MZ-75E500B (500GB) Solid State Drive Seagate BarraCuda (2TB) 3.5 inch Hard Disk Drive Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower ATX Case Corsair RM850x RMx Series 850 Watt Fully Modular Power Supply Unit Hopefully this will run P3D well and go together ok. I look forward to building it and seeing what it can do. Any comments on setup and P3D tweaks appreciated Regards
  5. Thanks again guys. I have decided on P3D and will use the mindstar G1000 with Eaglesoft DA42. Now is the hard part on deciding whether to build a machine based on i7 7700k or Ryzen? Are there any P3D specific comparisons anywhere? Most seem to be based on other games but this will only be used for flight sim.
  6. Thanks guys. Just to confirm, my initial IR stuff was all done in my PA28. I will be using the DA42 for the commercial stuff. :-)
  7. Thanks guys, I have been told by a few people now that P3D would be best. I will be doing some longer flights. airways routes in a DA42 and longer ones in the 737. I fly the DA42 in the real world so would like a sim that has a good G1000. I do have the Alabeo DA42 for FSX but is is pretty much unusable as the G1000 is very basic. I have been thinking of buying the Mindstar G1000 add on I see myself using this to practice but I do also enjoy it as a hobby and plan to build a decent PC to run it. I just don't want to go down a particular route and spend lots on add-ons then end up regretting using a particular base system.
  8. Thanks for your help. I don't mind paying for upgrades, I just want to make sure I choose the right base sim in the first place as I will also be building a PC specifically to run whichever I choose. I will have a look into P3D. Many Thanks
  9. Does P3D acurately cover the UK and does it include real world navaids and frequencies etc?
  10. Hi guys I am returning to flight simming after many years out of it. Previously I used FS2004 and FSX with the PMDG stuff. I like to use study level sims and am a RW pilot also. I am doing some commercial training and would like to use a flight sim to help with my IR procedures and checks etc. I stress I will not be using it for any kind of general handling practice as I am well aware of the limitations of sims but for IR procedures and getting familiar with cockpit layouts it can be beneficial and save ££'s in the air. That said I am unfamiliar with P3D or Xplane and these seem to have become popular since I have been away. I would like a sim that replicates the UK navaids and airfields well, either standalone or with add ons and has a decent DA42 with G1000 available plus PMDG 737. I was thinking of using FSX with the Eaglesoft DA42 and Mindstar G1000 would this be the best option over P3d and Xplane11? I would be grateful for any advice.
