  1. This was done with Peter Memmott's JoinFS and the FSX Air Sports Association AT-6 free download with these liveries and more. Details at the YouTube page for the video. It's way, way cool!
  2. Here was my view of that MSFlights.net multiplayer flight. For me it really went pretty well but I suspect it is because my connection was fairly solid. There was some flipping around, stuttering, and even some sliding occasionally. Also some disconnects. But not too bad as you can see... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVV6FeWssxs
  3. Hey Dan - that reply flight in essentially first person using AITrackerX and JoinFS:
  4. Wow Dan! This opens up even more possibilities and maybe Peter could add the option to use a different port? Or maybe they can share a port? As to what you see in the cockpit when doing pilot view in AITX, I'm uploading a video now with the instruments visible. It's a Pitts so no artificial horizon, but the others are indicating. And it's a special engine and prop that doesn't mind being oversped for a long time... The upload has 2 hours and 20 minutes still to go from the post time of this message at the YouTube channel in my signature. This really just keeps getting better.
  5. Hey Dan, thanks for the tip! I'll check that out! If it lets you get into the cockpit of AI planes, that might the ticket. For now, though, to expand on the AITX/JoinFS thing, it's an amazing pairing! I have been corresponding with Oliver Binder and he gave me some pointers - AITX works great for more or less putting you in the cockpit of any AI airplane including the JoinFS ones. It's not exactly like that though - what you have to do is in the plane you want to see things from (doesn't have to be the same plane you are going to attach to) and then you attach to the plane you want to "ghost" using "pilot view". What this does is figuratively put you on a stick out in front of the plane you are attached to. Oliver has added the ability to adjust that position both positive (that was already there) and negative (the addition) to allow you to move back more in register with the plane you are attached to so you see things more from that pilot's perspective. But what is important for VR users is that you have full head motion and can look around all you want while "riding along". It works great! I'm still using the 0.4.2 version of JoinFS which has the top of loop somersault bug but I was replaying the flight I did in the Pitts to look around during that flight. It works and works really well aside from getting thrown around in what looks like a Lomcovák. These two programs really complement each other. You can add formation planes to JoinFS replays as well as use the AITX view system to see things from each plane's perspective during replays if you want. Great way to put people into various scenarios that don't have the skill or ability. Being able to set up all sorts of scenarios and build them out to make them interesting for people to see is just extra special. @Ron - I am not sure but think Peter might have chosen 6112 since people have it set up for port forwarding already if they fly multiplayer. If you are using JoinFS you are in the Free Flight menu so no multiplayer to conflict with.
  6. On a slightly different note... I just tried AITrackerX (http://lorby-si.weebly.com/) with JoinFS and they play together! AITrackerX sees aircraft that JoinFS is replaying and you can move from plane to plane to see from their vantage points using the AITrackerX view system. I have a message in to Oliver (author of AITrackerX) to see if he can add some more flexibility in the viewing, but it works as is now!
  7. Hey Dan, that might be another bug. I can't know for sure if this is the case but it at least sounds similar and based on you not seeing the other plane, might be the reason. I was trying to use some Mike's Repaints liveries on one of the B-17s in the video above and it kept subbing out as a 172 on playback even though it was a livery I had and that worked. Turns out that if there are quotes in the description field in the aircraft.cfg, JoinFS can't find it because Peter strips quotes. He's working on a fix. If you have any special characters in the aircraft.cfg on the airplane you are trying to use, might post a bug report on the JoinFS BBS and submit the full stanza to Peter so he can see what is going on. Peter apparently just opened it up to all who want to download it and he has already fixed a number of things in the 1.0.0 TEST version available at his site: http://pmem.uk/joinfs/development.html
  8. I would bet not. Might give Peter a heads-up... I was flying it yesterday and the guy I was flying with used a plane I didn't have and he showed as a 172 just fine and I could sub his plane out. Maybe it's just peculiar to some installations?
  9. Another example of what you can do with overdubbing. This is just a short teaser video I did while in virtual reality and the two panels are a stereo view. JoinFS is pretty amazing for such a small and simple program.
  10. Hey Raven, I can't say on the X-Plane FlyInside branch since I haven't tried it, but in FSX/P3D you do see the mouse pointer. And you can also pull in desktop windows to display in your cockpit in VR. That gives you checklists, maintenance panels if the plane is so equipped, chat windows, etc. In FlyInside for FSX/P3D, you can also pull up your regular desktop in VR so you don't have to take off the headset to see your desktop if you need. In some ways it's a superset of the desktop. LM's P3D VR support is supposed to be better in 3.4 but everything I've heard from those running 3.4 (I'm still on 2.5 but planning to upgrade) is that not only is FlyInside's performance better, but all the stuff like support for Leap Motion, using the Vive controllers in the airplane, pulling desktop windows in, etc, are simply features that P3D doesn't have natively. I can only guess that Dan has made some deal to eventually surrender his soul to get the features and performance he has managed to build into FlyInside. Granted it is at slightly lower resolution, but we get two stereo (and therefore different) images rendered at 90 frames per second in VR with FlyInside. That's amazing. There are some tricks involved but still, that's 180 unique images every second out of FSX/P3D, and now X-Plane. Flying in VR has totally changed everything for me. I had moved away from flight simulation until Dan started up DCOC for P3D and then FlyInside. @FrontendRob - it'll blow you away. It's so different and amazing to find yourself in the cockpit of just about any airplane. I go for full realism now and tend to only fly the most realistically-modeled planes that are available. Scenery also got important. Flying in VR is huge fun.
  11. Hey Roo, you can just go to the JoinFS website and download it from the Install menu item. It's free though there is also a donate button... I was just recording flights and overdubbing in VR and this is exactly what I was looking for. Very smooth!
  12. The B-17s fly over then I start up and launch to catch up with them at about 7 minutes in. After flying with them a while I go land and they fly over again.
  13. Hi Richard, thanks so much for these! And I hope you get to feeling better. Wisdom tooth getting pulled is no fun!
