  1. [snip]

The real challenge now is: will Acronis allow me to transfer my "well-oiled" FSX to the new setup without fail?... Is my selection of saved drivers good enough to restart my new system? Answer in next episode I guess...

Hmm, my guess would be that Acronis will transfer it OK, but that what is "well-oiled" on your old hardware may not be on the new hardware. With the new stuff, you'll probably want to do some re-tweaking to take advantage of the newer hardware.

  2. Congrats on your V1, keep going

Why a twin engine? i would suggest a single engine like the C172, they are much slower and will be very useful for V3 not to be that much stressed when you are required to switch frequencies and report at least 10 times on a few miles for crossing the Bravo airspace back & forth.

Yeah true, but I love the turbine duke, love the GTN, and like a challenge :)

  3. Been FSX-SE for a long time, but recently built a new simming rig (core i5 @ 5Ghz & GTX 1070) and decided that in the spirit of new things I'd give P3D a whirl. Well, I've really been loving it and have barely been back to FSX-SE since.

Always was on stock scenery until today though, when I finally pulled the trigger on the ORBX global base package. Wow, what a difference! Took a little test flight from Juneau down to Ketchikan, and let me tell you, the view of the morning sunrise from the flight deck of N3206 was just gorgeous

  4. Can't ever have to many aircraft in the hanger, right?

So I have the C90GTX... but the C90B in HD looks like fun too. I'm wondering, for those of you out there who have both, which do you enjoy more / which do you find yourself spending more time in? How would you compare the two to each other -- side from the obvious difference of glass vs steam?

  5. Hello all!

I've been a long time lurker on avsim and decided it was finally time for me to check in with the community.

I've been simming for a few years now. Always enjoy it. Started out with just default FSX aircraft... then discovered the great world of payware add-on aircraft. That has been quite unhealthy for my wallet ;)

For the past while, I had been swimming using my laptop -- a MacBook Pro 2015 with the dual core i5 and iris graphics.  I thought it was doing OK, till i finally pulled the trigger on building a custom rig with a quad core i5 at 5 Ghz and a GTX 1070. The difference was incredible... night and day doesn't do it justice. Now I know what 35fps looks like :)

Looking forward to now getting to participate in all the discussions instead of just being a bystander!
