more pauses (and longer pauses) will appear when flying, adding so much detail and scenery would come with a cost, i know it has not been tested yet, but with eu openlc, vector germany north and south plus all our eyecandy airport scenery-just my 5 cents

    Not with X-Plane 11 or Aerofly FS2....

I'm so disappointed with XP 11, it makes me sick to my stomach every time I think about the money and time that I wasted on that platform.

I'm happy for any simmer that has found value and enjoyment with XP. I have not been so fortunate.

Hi!  I'm keen to understand more about why you didn't like XP 11.  Simply because I'm keen on the different perspective.

I moved across to XP11 after giving it a good go and finding so much is free and built-in.  Take camera angles for instance - you need to buy ChasePlane on P3D but it's built in to XP11.  Take replay mode - you have to buy ChasePlane but it's built in to XP11 and is much better than ChasePlane.  There's now a PMDG quality free Boeing 737.  You can use Ortho4XP.  Orbx have now released UK South and it's incredible.  Oh yes, talking of that, I can fly over the very densely populated London scenery and land at EGLL without any issue.  I can't do that on P3D without significantly decreasing settings.  And let's not forget lighting - every light in XP11 is real, not a texture.  I know P3D has dynamic lighting but it always killed my performance.

Please understand that this is not me 'evangelising' per se, simply me pointing out what I think objectively makes XP11 a good platform.  As I say, I'm keen to hear your perspective.

  3. Whilst it's a shame, I have to say that I was quite disappointed when I met Matt at Cosford this year.  I went up and introduced myself, only to be met with a highly stand-off and almost arrogant response with a hint of 'why are you bothering me?'.  I'm sure that wasn't his intention, at least I hope it wasn't, but it did leave a bitter taste in my mouth.  I know he's got some tough stuff going on in his private life, but I don't know why that would lead to treating people in the way he did.

Meeting Chewie, on the other hand, was a thoroughly pleasant experience.

Edit:  After just reading Matt's post, perhaps this explains it to some degree.

Unfortunately, Rob is right when he says that there's something wrong with the way this card and XP11 interact. So far I too am seeing little or no difference at all compared to my 1080ti.

This is surprising to hear - have you bumped up your AA settings with the RTX card?  I'd expect you to be able to do that and maintain the same FPS you had, with the 1080ti, at a lower AA setting.  That'd be logical.  But computers and logic don't always go hand in hand 🙂

This is much cheaper than my prior hobby of auto racing, she is actually glad I'm settling down … however, she does give me "the eye" when I start browsing "aircraft for sale" web sites.

Haha - I've not got to that point yet.  But I did manage to have a conversation that ended in me ordering an i9-9900K, an ASUS Maximus XI Formula and some Corsair Vengeance DDR4 4000MHz CL19 RAM.  Also ordered one of the new EWKB Velocity waterblocks which has better performance over the Supremacy.  Fingers crossed for a good bit of silicon to push to overclock!

9900K should arrive week of Oct 19th, the RAM and Motherboard have already shipped, just waiting on the CPU.

    Hi Rob,

I too was looking at the 9900K as, with some decent watercooling, it should be straight-forward enough to overclock that to ~5.2GHz without too much of an issue.  If I sold my 7900X and Rampge VI Apex, I'd easily be able to recoup the cost.  I don't think X299 is the best platform for simming - I actually think, despite a better overclock, my simming is worse than on X99.  Maybe a proper 'gaming' setup would be better.

Not sure how that conversation will go down with my wife though.... lol.  But you must be an expert on those conversations, given the amount of hardware you go through!

What board and RAM have you gone for?  I'm looking at the MAXIMUS XI Formula, with built-in EKWB VRM block, and Corsair Vengeance RGB CL19 4000MHz RAM.

  7. Hi all,

I've been solely flying X-Plane for the last few months but have just started a reinstall of P3D so I can fly my favourite PMDG aircraft and also because, let's face it, X-Plane weather representation is really bad.

I used to use Active Sky and ASCA but am now considering moving to Rex SkyForce.  Could someone please tell me, does the Rex weather engine do smooth weather transitions now?  I remember this being an issue when the product was first released but I'm hoping it's been resolved now?

    Thanks!

Not having bought Chaseplane (actually for the very reason people were complaining about, i.e. it requiring an online connection), I wasn't one of the many complaining about that outage, but I did see the thread where people were doing so and was amazed at the amount of crybabies there were whining about it. Some of the comments about their flight sims being rendered unusable by not having an add-on working were laughable; like they couldn't hold down the spacebar and move a mouse to alter the view, oh, what a hardship lol.

Pressing space didn't actually work for me.  I put it down to some kind of alteration that ChasePlane had made to my default camera settings?

Ah that's great - exactly what they should've posted as a response to the thread here.  Would've straightened things out for me no problem.  Instead, I saw a bit of an odd response that was unnecessarily grumpy and didn't address the outage.  I'm not following FSFX Packages on Facebook so wouldn't have seen that link if you didn't post it here.

What I saw yesterday during the chase plane outage was some of the worst outrages ever seen by some of the most frequented posters on avsim, lost all respect for them :/

Some of them have serious first world issues.

We sometimes face major government sites downtime in our country and haven't seen such reaction .

Seriously gents , Its a game learn to relax when such things happen .

I wanted to sim badly too , made up the whole flightplan etc and then bammm no chaseplane.

Thankfully dint go bonkers yelling at the dev.

    Kind regards,

    Jaffer

    Hi Jaffer,

I think there are a couple of reasons that people reacted the way they did - and I'm not making excuses for the over-exaggeration or rudeness of some people.  Firstly, this isn't the first time this kind of outage has happened - people expected it to be resolved from the first time.  Secondly, the developer ought to have reasonably been expected to foresee this kind of thing when he implemented the copy protection method he chose.

I think people are generally fairly supportive of unforeseeable events that cause outages - but the CP outage was entirely foreseeable and preventable.

ChasePlane is an excellent product - that much is apparent from the outcry in the topic.

As for the developer response to the outage topic, I'm less than chuffed. Not even so much as an apology. I'd love to know the details as to why the outage occurred.

Me too.  I get that it's frustrating for the developer but he seriously annoyed me with that response - we're not all unreasonable trolls.  An explanation as to what happened, and how the issue will be prevented from happening again, is not too much to ask for.

  12. Seems that the developers live in Quebec where the time is 0530 on a Sunday morning.  I suspect this will not be resolved for a good few hours yet :(

Just tried to launch a flight without ChasePlane and all the cameras are messed up so it's not possible.  I don't have a hat switch on my yoke (Brunner CLS-E) so have no way of flying until the ChasePlane issues are resolved.  Very frustrating indeed.

I was having the slow loading textures/autogen issue in V4 and i thought i would give a try on this tweak, what i noticed was a huge difference, the autogen goes beyond what i can see... magic, however the loading time increases a lot and 50% of the time i get an out of memory in that loading, im talking about a out of memory from windows 10, but i still have at least 5 gb of free ram in 16gb total so i guess this is windows related. TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9 reduces loading time, the autogen is still far, but with a good zoom i can see it popping, no out memory with this value.

Any thoughts on this? anyone having this also?

    My specs below.

That 'tweak' shouldn't do a thing regarding autogen, it increases the resolution of your textures.

The problem with your question, as can be seen in any topic about ATC (and there are a lot of them), is that everyone will say his or hers favorite is the best. In the end you will have to read reviews, watch video's, read various topics, etc. to make your own decision. Some of the ATC addons do have demo's afaik.

I myself have used ProATC/X and liked it. Thought it was the best. But others will promote others. (I am not using any ATC right now because currently I only fly GA and for that the default P3D ATC does the trick.)

One thing is for certain though: the perfect ATC addon doesn't exist yet. (But well, so doesn't the perfect sim so what else is new... )

    Hi Jeroen,

I found that article after posting and just came back to see if I could remove my question.  I understand that everyone has a different view on things but I'm most interested in why you don't think the perfect ATC add-on exists yet.  What do you think is missing from the current offerings?

    Thanks,

    Ady

  15. Hi everyone,

I'm interested in any feedback you might have around ATC add-ons for P3D v4.  It's something I think it missing from my simulator experience and I'm not a big fan of VATSIM or IVAO.  I understand there are a few options but I'm not sure on the pros and cons of each and would appreciate your thoughts.  Do any of the existing add-ons even support P3D v4?

    Thanks in advance!
