  1. Having just watched a documentary on the development if the 747, it seems that one of the phenomena that needed to be contended with was something called ‘flutter’, a massive vibration throughout the aircraft at certain speeds and height which was capable of breaking an aircraft, even a 747, apart. I couldn’t quite tell what was done to allow the aircraft to contend with this problem so am putting the question out there. Also was wondering if there are conditions now in which an aircraft could encounter this difficulty and what it is that a pilot might have to do to deal with it.
  2. Hmm, not good. Makes me wonder what the point is if nothing but the pentagon defence computer is capable of running it.
  3. Michael, Just installed France VFR Paris and had exactly the same issue. Did you manage to fix your problem? could you please let me know what you did? thanks Neil.
  4. I think that is my problem. Looking back on it all now I realise that I was a bit more naïve than someone who has been doing this as long as I have should have been. As a retirement present to myself I spent £3500 on the most gut-busting power house that I possibly could and thought 'now I will have that 'all sliders to the right' 'blow it away' performance that I have always dreamed off. With just about everything else in my games cabinet this is true, nothing slows this baby down - but not flight sim.It is the flight simmers lot, it seems, to spend more time fiddling with the damn set-up than actually enjoying flight simulation. I wanted to find a point where I could use all my best scenery with airliners such as the PMDG lot, but I cant have smooth performance there,, in England say - taking off from Gatwick let alone Heathrow -without everything on normal and autogen on sparse. That way I get into the 30's but even then over, say, London there are stutters. As for every one commenting that they don't have HT - yeah, your probably right and I read that long thread that tRob did on the i9, I just wont be entirely satisfied unless I try it for myself because we have all learnt how different set ups work differently according to individuals computers etc. tahnks foro the replies. Neil
  5. Thanks guys - got the figure: 1048575, Gatwick call gave me binary and calculator converter binary to decimal gave me the final figure.
  6. Does the Gatwick call go up to 10? I’ll check again.
  7. Sorry, I should add that the performance I seek is smoothness. I remember a brief period back in P3Dv2 when I was taking off from Heathrow in a PMDG 737 with just 20-23 FPS, and it was beautifully smooth. Oh to recapture the moment.
  8. Hello all I have project lasso, I have - much against my better nature - overclocked my CPU very slightly, Ive monitored the way P3Dv4 utilises the i9 and there are certainly high load times when virtually all cores are employed, but also long stretches when they are not and yet there are stutters and stalls in high load areas. Ive wondered about overclocking my card, and all to get P3D to operate smoothly, every other game I have is smooth as silk, as ever flight sims are always the most hungry. I am still not convinced that P3Dv4 utilises my hardware as fully as it should, but can only think of affinity mask as a means of getting it to do so. I am, therefore, wondering if there are any of the clever people out here, who read this post, who is able to calculate a figure for affinity mask for an i9. Ive tried to understand binary, and how to calculate it for myself, Ive tried the 'Gatwick' calculator but of course it does not go up to a 10 core processor, 20 with hyper threading. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Thank you all. 9. I second that, wonderful model - and we are told that the model will be updated for P3Dv4
  10. Hello all I would like some advice please on using PMDG aircraft in VR. I have Orbx everywhere at the moment and performance is pretty smooth outside VR but stuttering inside. I have quiet powerful co outer but I guess none of the add ins were ever designed for VR. Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Neil
  11. Hi All, Anyone know what on earth this is? It happens on start up after sceneries builds and then seems to cause my version 4.3 to crash, but in some sense still to be on because you cant try and restart it as it tells you a version of Prepar3D is running. Again here it is: An error box in which it is said: Hacklib::initContactPointsOffset()-Unsupported Prepar3D Version Ha! Seems like it was caused by FSLabs A320
  12. OH!! Just read the other posts. Great! Going to update now
  13. Its incredibly frustrating isn't it? You spend the money, expect the performance to match the outlay, and....And if your able to monitor what is happening on the CPU, you find that it is hardly utilising 20%. I've upped my chill pill intake! Hope you get it sorted better. Neil.
  14. Sorry about that. Will sort that out. I'm not quite sure how you do it at the moment, but I shall read the posts and find out. Thanks for the replies. Neil
  15. Excuse me asking but has there been any recent update of the 747 that could possibly cause her to perform less well (FPS - wise)? I ask because my 747 used to be one of my best performing models, but recently Ive lost nearly 10 frames. Thanks Neil
  16. Thanks for that Mike, I needed some reassurance after some of the responses that I received on the P3D forum. You would think that Id just forked out a goodly portion of my pension on something that ran on orange juice and elastic bands. Thankfully, someone also said that Id be better off coming to Avsim because people are generally more knowledgeable
  17. Thank you for your replies all. It does seem to me that despite all the things that we are doing to make our hardware work harder that P3Dv4 still does not use all the power that we through at it most efficiently, but I am not technically knowledgeable enough to say that with conviction. I run DCS and X Plane 11 and they both run so much more smoothly. But over the years I have invested far too much money in sceneries and I want to enjoy them a bit. Take a look at the following settings and screenshot of the default F22 at Heathrow. They are high settings but not, I would argue, absurd. And Heathrow is a known resource hog. However, 15-17 FPS? Really? Anyway, tell me what you think. 18. Thanks for the replies. I do use full 4K, but have reverted to 1920/1080 and it didn't make much of a difference at all. I am not overclocking at the mo and have thought that maybe I would try it. And also will try Dynamic FFTF. Thanks again Neil
  19. Hello all. Please help someone. I am annoyed, defeated and somewhat dispirited and turn to the considerable bank of knowledge held by some of the people who use this forum. I have been simming since the turn of the millennium and Pentium processors. I bought FSX when it came out and along with everyone else saw the huge potential but tore my hair out at the strain it put on hardware. I've never stopped reaching out for the ideal balance of performance and spectacle, and have tried to obtain the processor and eventually graphics card to do the job, as I know many of you will have done. Through FSXSE, P3Dv1.2.3 and 64bit 4, the increasing levels of complex models from the likes of PMDG and the great array of ORBX sceneries, and so on, I have tried to find the elusive 'sweet spot', whilst remembering that flight simulation is about flying, learning and having fun, not worrying about FPS (it is easy to forget this when your fiddling with config files hoping to gain from the latest 'tweak'). Finally at the time of my retirement I thought to get as a present to myself, the computer that would, after all these years, give me what I looked for. Here are the specs: · Asus PRIME X299-A Motherboard · NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Graphics Card · 32GB DDR4 2400MHz Memory (2 x 16GB Sticks) · Intel Core i9-7900X CPU, 10 Cores, 3.3 - 4.3GHz · Corsair Hydro H100x CPU Cooler · Windows 10 Home 64-bit · Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold 850W PSU Samsung 4K Monitor OK, this will do it says I - no it bloody wont, says God. I have all principle ORBX's installed, I open up in default F22 at Egin with sliders, admittedly, almost to the right (but not quite), and I get around 40FPS. What this means is that PMDG 747 at Gatwick is around 22 and will, of course, take off reasonably adequately but with a fair bit of stuttering as well. It is better than I have had before, true, but not much, certainly not £2000 better. I look, not so much for high FPS, but for fluidity, but do not really obtain that at the slider levels I would like. So, is it just a matter of putting sliders back? I, perhaps expect too much. Some of you may say so and if that is true then ok, Ill just get on with it and try and get the best performance I can. But I would really like to know your opinions, any advice and anything you think I ought to be doing. Thanks guys. Neil.
  20. I've posted this on the Milviz Forums as well, I just hoped maybe someone here has an idea what might be going on. Basically, I can't take off. I start up, everything on and seemingly ok. I push throttles forward and hear the afterburners kick in. I build speed and reach v1 and V2-have moved to rotate and the nose pulls up around 10, 15%. But that is it, I don't rise from the runway but continue on the back wheels. It maybe that the front has not fully lost touch with the runway either but I can't really tell. Anyway, I shoot off the end of the runway. Depending on where I am I keep moving at speed and then , eventually, the nose flips up, a/c gains height quickly, like a rocket, but I've now lost control altogether and she starts to stall and drops like a turning brick. If anyone else has had this problem I'd love to know, and especially how anyone may have addressed it. If you think I've left something out of start up or am performing an incorrect manoeuvre- I'd appreciate any help. thanks Neil G
