  1. Hi Ray Of course not. Heat of the moment. I have just done exactly what you suggested in respect of my P3D installation. What 'memory' is the program referring to?
  2. Well, I've been backing up my C:\ as a disk image and my p3d disk as folders and files using AOMEI. So I'm getting floating trees in P3D so I thought why not test your backup? Imagine my disappointment when I received a message about insufficient memory to perform task on reboot. if it's RAM I've got 16gb. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong, or is this program a joke?
  3. Ray/newtie: thanks for the suggestion but NAS seems a little over the top for my needs. I've been using AOMEI Pro for the past few days and so far it's doing what I want. Cheers Garry
  4. Thanks Ray. All understood. I use a separate 1tb ssd for all p3d stuff I think will feel the benefit. I can see me wishing it was 2tb this time next year! I would respond to your comment re os drive failure but I feel that would be tempting fate on my part..... Thanks again
  5. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated. I have 1tb free on one of my hdds so I think I'll back up both my ssds to that - the total is more or less 750gb. And if I understand correctly, if a disk craps out or the software develops a problem it's simply a matter of restoring the entire folder system from the backup file either to the existing disk or a new one? So if I wanted to put P3D et al on another drive, say a 2tb ssd because I've added more software and need more space, I extract the backup file to the new disk and 'voila', job done? I assume I'll need to make a new disk the same drive letter as the old one? Also I think I'm worrying about the registry unnecessarily - that does not get affected if a disk develops an error?
  6. Hi All Now that I [finally] have a smooth running flightsim, I'm planning to backup or to be more precise, copy my P3D root directory installation which comprises P3D+ORBX+OTHER SCENERY & AIRPORT ADD-ONS from the likes of Aerosoft, FS Addons and UK2000, from the ssd on which it currently resides to an internal hdd. I also have other add-ons handled by the xml method via Lorby's excellent add-on manager which pose no concern in this respect. The SSD also holds in separate directories FS Pilots mesh, REX Skyforce & WWA, MyTraffic 06a and a whole bunch of Return to Misty Moorings stuff. I've read a previous post from 2016 in the forums related to this, but no mention is made of the registry. I suspect I will need to make a copy of my registry also? Surely some of the add-on programs I've installed to the P3D root directory write to the registry? Or if I use a back-up tool, this is taken care of automatically? Could some kind soul advise, please? Thanks.
  7. no luck. i found a [dead] link to a fxml to flt converter on pete dowson's page but that's about it.
  8. aeronauta/jabloom- thanks for the help. you learn something new every day being a flightsimmer! the software seems to be working just fine but I will try to find that conversion utility. I'm thinking it's got to be better in the correct P3D format, right?
  9. whoops, my bad. could you tell me why these files are there, please? the folder is installed by uk2000 and there's a few wx and save files also, so i'm assuming they're there for a reason? i've only flown a couple of flights yet there's FLT files for each airfield in the folder.
  10. Hi All I've installed UK2000 VFR Airfields scenery into P3D v4.4 and see that the 'situations' folder for each volume contains flight plans in FLT format. They don't open in Plan G or P3D so i'm hoping there's a way to convert/use them. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  11. kiki-fwiw i sent some feedback to amd. i got a response from their customer care saying they would pass it on to the relevant dept. fingers and toes are crossed.
  12. kiki-glad to hear that! the only thing i see we lose is the amd add on package to change global and game settings, vsr et al. a small price to pay. let's hope the next driver release fixes this. and thanks for starting this thread.
  13. gotta love the avsim community
  14. Simbol - SUCCESS!! Can't thank you enough. Kiki-I uninstalled the AMD Software entry in programs and features, this removed all the amd package and rebooted. Grateful thanks to all others that gave their time to help me.
  15. d'oh!😣 Simbol- I have opened programs and features and there are 2 AMD entries - Ryzen Master and AMD software [that links to a 78mb BIN64 file] and no Radeon entries either. Seems like I do not have the driver correctly installed?
  16. simbol-btw i'm not seeing any artifacts in p3d
  17. simbol - do i do this via device manager and 'uninstall device'?
  18. whoops Jim v-sorry. I found the other dll.xml in app data> roaming. Is this to be renamed or turned 'off' and then rebuilt by p3d?
  19. Jim - could you give a little more clarification on your comments re renaming the dll.xml. I have found the file in program data but I'm being a bit thick this morning. I believe you are saying rename dll.xml to scenery.cfg? and then rename scenery.cfg [also in program data] to p3d.cfg? simbol - I'm running a factory oc'd AMD RX580 8gb made by XFX & v19.2.2 driver
  20. no i neither use reshade nor pta. however i did find a help page that suggests deleting the ui nterface file in app data>roaming. i did this and p3d rebuilt the file ok, however apart from making the splash screen revert back to normal size [it was showing about half size] nothing was fixed. perhaps it might work for you kiki. yes i noticed sometimes it is worse, and the pics of the planes appear like they have no aa applied. the edges are jagged.
  21. kiki - chaseplane connects automatically and i usually activate fsxwx and plan g when p3d is loaded I have just booted p3d with nothing else running or loading at the same time to no avail. thanks for the thought though. chapstick - my win 10 theme was a downloaded theme 'snowy mountains'. i switched to a stock solid colour and my lock screen was windows spotlight so i switched to a stock win10 picture but no success. thanks for suggestion.
  22. well this gets more annoying: last night I was talking to my wife whilst P3D booted and the plane in my sim scenario kept crashing . Because I was talking to my wife I gave her my full attention and left the pc alone [I'm not as stupid as I look].. When I had finished talking to her I noticed the dialog box appearing after the plane crashes was FINE all of a sudden. However when I went to change planes the problem reappeared. Curiouser and curiouser.....
  23. Jim-just tried your suggestion, thanks - no change and I completely reset my monitor.
  24. yep everything else is fine here too.
  25. no. the reason i reinstalled was something went wrong, the problem just appeared and i also lost my rudder and yoke inputs. the last thing i did was mod my registry to run p3d v3 installers in p3d v4 and that worked just fine because i ran 2 installations no probs. my monitor is lg ultrawide 2560x1080 and i tried with virtual super resolution at default and lower and higher rez and the controllers work fine in the new install.
