  1. Found this video on youtube, From watching the video, it does show that Vulkan is more " powerful " than DirectX12 based on this 3dmark benchtest, if that's the right choice of word to use? Would Prepar3d benefit from switching? Well that's something we would have to wait and see. With X-plane, DCS World, Aerofly having/are making the switch, that could be the deciding factor, if there is noticable improvements on all of those sims that are making the switch, surely it would be a no brainer for LM to follow suit?
  2. Ahh I see, I will have to keep my eye on that, thanks.
  3. I remember the days of playing the " B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th " sim and how cool it used to be to fly the B-17, take off from the airfield, fly all the way to the target, having your aircraft blown to piece by the flak and incoming fighters, limping back home, not knowing if you was going to make it back to base, those were the days ( going slightly off topic there lol ) back to the subject, so what is the best one available? Couldn't really find any reviews on the two I found. How they never got around to developing a newer version of that game, puzzles me, was fun.
  4. Upgrade to a new CPU and the addition of DDR4, you should see a slight improvement but all depends on what addons your running and that, also just to note, you could have 2 identical setups but they could perform totally different to each other, personally if you looking to upgrade in general, I'd go ahead and do it, nothing more statisfying than buying new hardware lol.
  5. I would like to see PBR, more realistic sounding ATC, those ripples effects you see at the back of the engines, better optimization.............but Personally I don't think we will see any drastic improvements all the time LM are using the ESP engine, every update they do get closer and closer to the engines limitations, look what happens as soon as you add multiple addons, the sim gets quite unsteady, realistically in my opinon, those that have the 12+ core CPU's and all the other top of the range hardware should be getting a nice and steady 60fps, but we just don't see that happening with the ESP, that is what is holding the sim back 😞 maybe LM can find a way to totally revamp the ESP so it utilises all the latest hardware efficiently but I think personally getting away from the ESP will be the best thing. We can only wish and pray lol. Nevertheless, I will continue to support LM, like most peeps, to much time and money has been invested in this and FSX lol.
  6. Right this is probably a silly question but here goes, when we install payware sceneries addons or even freeware for instance, do the P3D default sceneries still try to load behind the new ones we added? For example, you install all of the Orbx FTX files, i.e Global, Vectors, LC's etc etc, those are what show up in the sim during flight and also show up higher on the priority list in the addons menu, now are the P3D default sceneries still loading but behind the Orbx files or hidden, I didn't know if you unticked the default P3D files that your payware are replacing, could explain the performance hit, I did say it was a silly question. 🙂
  7. LOD_RADIUS = The distance at which you see things/start to spawn. TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP = The texture resolution size, i.e 8=256x256, that's from my understanding, could be totally wrong though lol. So anything outside the lod_radius limit would be blurry/not loaded I guess?
  8. What about the "Level of detail radius" under the terrain setting? Would that effect it if you up it higher?
  9. No problem Nelson, glad to help.
  10. Check to see if you have deleted C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 folder before trying to install, forgot to mention that folder, other than that, I haven't a clue.
  11. Check to see if you have deleted C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 folder before trying to install, other than that, I haven't a clue.
  12. If your still having problems completely uninstall P3D V4.3, delete these folders C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin and C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin, then reinstall P3D V4.3 and all should be working, this is what I had to do, wouldn't work for me otherwise. Edit, when you uninstall P3D if it is on a different drive to the OS, these folders do not get removed by uninstalling P3D.
  13. @Chock, American 833 Heavy, thanks for those write up, very interesting 🙂 that's the sort of info I wanted to know, in regards to the 747-8 coming out, it seems best to wait until both products have been released, knowing my luck for example, I will purchase one of them and then the 747-8 will be released and it turns out to be 10x better by the company I didn't go for lol, safe to say I will be waiting now, thanks to everyone who chipped in on the convo, everything been taken onboard.
  14. Isn't the PMDG 747-8 being released as an expansion to the 747 base package? I thought I had read it somewhere on the PMDG forum section, I'll see if I can find it.
  15. Thanks everyone for taking your time to reply back, I will give the iFly version a try first, see how I get on with it, if it's not what I expected, I'll just bite the bullet, refund it and go get the PMDG version as I know they do make exellent products and having FS2Crew is always compatible is a plus. I too try to keep a limit on how much I'd spent for an addon (£80) but if needs be, sometimes you just have to go for it I know it might be alot to ask and I have tried looking around on the net, but what are some of features that the PMDG version have that the iFly doesn't?
  16. Over last few week, I have been looking at getting either one of these planes, I have read up on these and watched youtube reviews but I can't seem to make heads or tails of them, what I want to know is, what one is the " better " choice to go for in regards to quality, performance, flight dynamics, functions etc etc, could someone with some experience with these crafts share some pros and cons of each please. At the moment I am slightly in favour to the iFly version as the PMDG one is like over double the price at $139.99/£105, as to compared to iFly at $59.99/£45, so it's quite alot of pennies to cough up if there is not much difference is these or if anyone else has any suggestions for another long range jetliner, that would be much appreciated. I have been keeping my eye out on the developement of the new Aerosoft A330 which could look promising. Any advice is welcoming. Thanks Marc
  17. To be honest I can't answer that as I only played about for like 10 mins, had to go to work, only just got back, erm......I just looked on the Prepar3d release notes and all that is mentioned is Prepar3D Scenery Fixes and Improvements Fixed scenery errors causing trenches to appear along Cyprus. Fixed elevation and exclusion issues at YBUD. Fixed elevation issues in Guam. Added American Elm and Acacia mild winter SpeedTree variations. They did also mention installing the scenery/contents was optional, so hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to give a correct answer, sorry I couldn't be much help.
  18. Hey Andy, not sure if anyone has mentioned how to fix this, but I had the same problem, what I did was completely uninstall everything p3d related including addons, I had to delete these folders - C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin and C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin and then reinstall v4.3 and everything work perfectly, not sure if this was the correct way to resolve this issue or the easiest but it worked for me. Marc
  19. I'm pretty sure all 3rd party payware will be updated in the next few days if not sooner, if your wanting to continue to fly with your addons, just hang on until they are updated, saves you going backwards and forwards updating P3D client/scenery/contents. Do it all in one hit.
  20. Great work in keeping up a list of compatible addons Simbol, well done.
  21. Thanks for the info Simbol, I shall keep an eye out on your forum 🙂 also I may hold on buying the new addons, wait until the update and all addons are up to date.
  22. Doesn't LM give release dates/patch note in advance of launching an update? Or it is a case, that LM just release an update and tell everyone about it the same day? Just curious as I'm looking to buy a few new addons Friday but don't want to go buying them if the new update hasn't been released.
  23. I attempted to sign up to Vatsim recently, I entered all the correct details that were needed, I got an e-mail to verify my e-mail address, upon clicking the link, a new webpage opens with a message saying "ID VERIFICATION FAILURE" I did file a support ticket, was meant to of received a support ticket number but wasn't given one, so I'm unable to track what is happening, has anyone else had this issue before? Wondering if theres anything else I can do to get this issue sorted. Was looking forward to joining the community.
  24. Just found this on another forum, could be of some use? " I have something you can try though, it's not something that will fix visuals and I haven't tested it much but once you open the sim and it is on the menu, open task manager and go to the Prepared v4 task. Then right click it and 'go to details'. Once there, right click again and 'select affinity'. Then, untick CPU 0 and click ok. Load the sim in your desired way and once everything has loaded, turn on CPU 0 again. This shares the processes across each core for P3D. Not sure if Lockheed Martin know about this but I just hope something performance wise will be fixed in 4.1 on 10th October. I upgraded my CPU a while ago to a Skylake 6700K at 4.6 and it substantually increased my performance back on v3. After spending all my money's, this is the only thing I have found that increased the performance a lot (A high CPU clock). The CPU 0 thing on Task Manager might not be ideal for now, but my performance is around 30/40 fps at Heathrow now with max to medium settings whereas it was around 15-20. " I have been reading about and it is mentioned quite alot that P3D V4 heavily replies on a high cpu clock speed, so you may have to overclock your cpu to around 4.5ghz, by all means get watercooling first before attempting to overclock, even if it's one of those All-in-One Corsair watercoolers, I wouldn't recommend doing that on an air cooler. Also I've heard that most of the "work" is undertaken by CPU 0 so maybe trying that above about unticking CPU 0 might help, I can't confirm if it does as I have not tried it, maybe someone who has can? Just thought I'd mention it. Hope you get the issue sorted.
  25. For anyone interested, Steam has X-Plane 11 on sale at the moment, 30% off, was £54.99, is now £36.29, offer ends 5th July 2018. To bad really, I had been using FSX for a good few years, decided to make the switch to P3D v4.2 recently, started to build up a collection of payware and now X-Plane comes on offer lol, oh well, may as grab a copy whiles it's on offer.
