  1. Found this video on youtube, From watching the video, it does show that Vulkan is more " powerful " than DirectX12 based on this 3dmark benchtest, if that's the right choice of word to use? Would Prepar3d benefit from switching? Well that's something we would have to wait and see. With X-plane, DCS World, Aerofly having/are making the switch, that could be the deciding factor, if there is noticable improvements on all of those sims that are making the switch, surely it would be a no brainer for LM to follow suit?
  2. Ahh I see, I will have to keep my eye on that, thanks.
  3. I remember the days of playing the " B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th " sim and how cool it used to be to fly the B-17, take off from the airfield, fly all the way to the target, having your aircraft blown to piece by the flak and incoming fighters, limping back home, not knowing if you was going to make it back to base, those were the days ( going slightly off topic there lol ) back to the subject, so what is the best one available? Couldn't really find any reviews on the two I found. How they never got around to developing a newer version of that game, puzzles me, was fun.
  4. Upgrade to a new CPU and the addition of DDR4, you should see a slight improvement but all depends on what addons your running and that, also just to note, you could have 2 identical setups but they could perform totally different to each other, personally if you looking to upgrade in general, I'd go ahead and do it, nothing more statisfying than buying new hardware lol.
  5. I would like to see PBR, more realistic sounding ATC, those ripples effects you see at the back of the engines, better optimization.............but Personally I don't think we will see any drastic improvements all the time LM are using the ESP engine, every update they do get closer and closer to the engines limitations, look what happens as soon as you add multiple addons, the sim gets quite unsteady, realistically in my opinon, those that have the 12+ core CPU's and all the other top of the range hardware should be getting a nice and steady 60fps, but we just don't see that happening with the ESP, that is what is holding the sim back 😞 maybe LM can find a way to totally revamp the ESP so it utilises all the latest hardware efficiently but I think personally getting away from the ESP will be the best thing. We can only wish and pray lol. Nevertheless, I will continue to support LM, like most peeps, to much time and money has been invested in this and FSX lol.
  6. Right this is probably a silly question but here goes, when we install payware sceneries addons or even freeware for instance, do the P3D default sceneries still try to load behind the new ones we added? For example, you install all of the Orbx FTX files, i.e Global, Vectors, LC's etc etc, those are what show up in the sim during flight and also show up higher on the priority list in the addons menu, now are the P3D default sceneries still loading but behind the Orbx files or hidden, I didn't know if you unticked the default P3D files that your payware are replacing, could explain the performance hit, I did say it was a silly question. 🙂
  7. LOD_RADIUS = The distance at which you see things/start to spawn. TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP = The texture resolution size, i.e 8=256x256, that's from my understanding, could be totally wrong though lol. So anything outside the lod_radius limit would be blurry/not loaded I guess?
  8. What about the "Level of detail radius" under the terrain setting? Would that effect it if you up it higher?
  9. No problem Nelson, glad to help.
  10. Check to see if you have deleted C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 folder before trying to install, forgot to mention that folder, other than that, I haven't a clue.

  12. If your still having problems completely uninstall P3D V4.3, delete these folders C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin and C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin, then reinstall P3D V4.3 and all should be working, this is what I had to do, wouldn't work for me otherwise. Edit, when you uninstall P3D if it is on a different drive to the OS, these folders do not get removed by uninstalling P3D.
  13. @Chock, American 833 Heavy, thanks for those write up, very interesting 🙂 that's the sort of info I wanted to know, in regards to the 747-8 coming out, it seems best to wait until both products have been released, knowing my luck for example, I will purchase one of them and then the 747-8 will be released and it turns out to be 10x better by the company I didn't go for lol, safe to say I will be waiting now, thanks to everyone who chipped in on the convo, everything been taken onboard.
  14. Isn't the PMDG 747-8 being released as an expansion to the 747 base package? I thought I had read it somewhere on the PMDG forum section, I'll see if I can find it.
  15. Thanks everyone for taking your time to reply back, I will give the iFly version a try first, see how I get on with it, if it's not what I expected, I'll just bite the bullet, refund it and go get the PMDG version as I know they do make exellent products and having FS2Crew is always compatible is a plus. I too try to keep a limit on how much I'd spent for an addon (£80) but if needs be, sometimes you just have to go for it I know it might be alot to ask and I have tried looking around on the net, but what are some of features that the PMDG version have that the iFly doesn't?
