I think folk don't understand the shaders.

These are the instructions that describe the shaders.

They build the cache - that's the code of the shaders when the sim runs.

Once they've been built they might be updated when LM decides to change them.

There is no need to delete them because the ones required for change are flagged for changes in the update from LM and are rebuilt when you run the sim.

If you used an addon that changed them then it's possible these addons don't respect that, and so a plan has evolved to remove the cache and shader instructions completely first.

I know how shaders work haha.

I'm just trying to say shader addons modify the shader source files (ShadersHLSL) and sometimes uninstalling client doesn't remove the modified ones, which can cause issues after an update.

My CPU: i7 4790K, 4 Ghz, turbo boost up to 4.4 Ghz

    GPU: GTX 1070

    16GB RAM

I want to know how much FPS will I gain from overclocking to say 4.8 Ghz at the most demanding situations (i.e. on final approach to EGLL/EHAM with ORBX OpenLC) ?

If I'm getting an average of 20 FPS right now on approach to EHAM/EGLL on a PMDG 777, will a 20% increase from 4 to 4.8 give a 20% increase in FPS from 20 to 24 FPS?

    1. Is that Math correct? Is it a simple linear thing like that or more complicated?

    2. I'm guessing the overclocking will not solve the FPS fluctuations that are typical when you have a 60Hz monitor and the FPS jumps from 30 to 15 and back to 30.. If the average FPS stayed above 60, i can lock it to 60 FPS.. In AFS2, it stays solid at 60 or even 100 on approach to KLAX with ultra settings.

    3. Is that 4 FPS gain even worth the trouble of overclocking? Am i better off waiting for P3D V5 where hopefully they pull a rabbit out of the hat and do something with multicore/multithreading and give us a 60 FPS sim...

    1. If you are CPU bottlenecked then yes, increasing your core speed will give a linear increase. So yeh you'll get 4 extra fps.

    2. Nah it wont, some people lock it at a low limit but I much prefer leaving it unlocked. With Gsync fluctuations are MUCH less noticable, and stutters are pretty much gone.

    3. I think so, those times you drop to 15fps, you might drop to 18 or 19fps instead, you won't notice much difference in Average FPS but you'll notice the drops during the most demanding situations are less severe.

  3. The Vman speeds in the table on the top right of the page are the minimum maneuvering speeds for that flap/slat setting.

    From the fcom:

"If autothrottles are engaged, the autothrottle system (ATS) will reference to alpha floor (1.3 VS in landing configuration) or speed selected with the airspeed command bug, whichever is greater."

So if you're getting the ALFA speed it means you're trying to go below minimum safe speed.

Also the maximum speeds for extension are quite high as mentioned above.

    VFE speeds:

    0º - 13º  280 kts

    15º - 20º   240 kts

    21º - 25º  220 kts

    26º - 27º  200 kts / 205 kts MD83

    28º - 40º  195 kts / 200 kts MD83

That's one indication of trying to avoid something that can go wrong if you've installed something that messes with the sim. In your case: Shaders.

When you get an upgrade from LM the shaders requiring a rebuild are already flagged (for rebuild), so no need to delete the shaders. Which, if you sim all over the world, can take months to replace in reality. Generally most are built in the first two minutes giving rise to poor performance during then.

Think he means deleting the actual Shaders themselves not the cache, as in ShadersHLSL, sometimes when uninstalling client if you've modified the shaders they won't all be deleted.

  5. It bothers me that they show it reduced from 134.99 down to 59.99.

Do they really plan to sell it for more than the PMDG?

The PMDG might be a bit more expensive but I think it's worth every penny even if you aren't after a study level sim. It's more about peace of mind and knowing that the aircraft is working as it does in real life.

If something goes wrong on the PMDG I feel comfortable knowing I made a mistake with something, whereas with the CS I wouldn't know if I was doing something wrong or if it was just a bug.

I downloaded the pbr update today and just a short question. Does that look normal to u with the pbr update? I mean it looks like a christmas tree in the middle of the night. No Tomatoshade profile is active btw

Looks like you're still using the non-pbr version. Did you disable the reflection profile before or after you updated?

If after, try reinstall the update.

I find it puzzling how much negativity there is to a point release whether on here or FB or other forums.  Whether that very long list of fixes, and improvements affects you personally, I think its absolutely fantastic that LM continues at this pace (about every 6months ) to release an update. It keeps getting better.   How many did we get with FSX?

These reports that things are worse than before just dont make sense. Clearly LM with many high level professional customers is not going to deliberately release something thats worse. Pretty sure that if you install a vanilla 4.4 vs 4.5 the improvements are there. When we have all the addons, something is bound to get a little wonky, but it will get sorted out as it usually does.

Your going to see releases from devs that say requires 4.5 and thats simply for features behind the scenes deep into the core of the sim that we cant see but get utilized by devs.  So I for one am thrilled for this update, and had no problems with client and content update. (FSL uninstalled previous to doing update) Everything seems to be working great. Performance the same but so what knowing that a whole lot underneath was even further optimized whether you see it visually or not, it just makes the foundation stronger for the future.

You've got to remember people are much more likely to post only if they're having issues.

There's thousands of people out there having no issues who probably aren't going to comment on this thread.

  8. It's been like for as long as I can remember. It's a limitation of 2d clouds unfortunately.

You can rotate them in the air to make them look 3D, but as soon as they clip through the ground they look a 2D picture intersecting 3D terrain and the illusion is lost.

But this is not the correct way to build the airport in accordance with P3D SDK instructions, now as a result all your AI Models including cars will receive shadows and this might affect your performance.

I believe addon developers do it to get higher resolution ground imagery. Before 4.4 the photoreal scenery resolution was quite limited and this was a common workaround.
