Am I doing something wrong. When I advance the throttle the engine rpm/map increases as it should, when I pull the throttle back it seems to go to idle in about the middle of the lever position, and when I pull it back further  the engine increases again. As if it were going into reverse/ Help! I haven't changed by control parameters so I am not sure what to do.

I had this same issue and it nearly killed me on my first landing. How I resolved it was going into the Controls section in MSFS -> Power Management -> Throttle. I then removed the mapping that was there and then mapped THROTTLE 1 AXIS. I think I had to untick the reverse axis box and then it worked fine after that.

    Hi,

Absolutely new to MSFS and AaO. I’m thrilled to arrive home, purchase it and start configuring it. From what I saw extensively on YouTube it’s very much integrated with the Steamdeck (which I’ll be using), but wanted to ask if it’s also possible to use it to configure all my Virpil peripherals.

    Cheers

Yes should be fine. I have my Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo along with my Stream Deck configured through AAO without any problem. Haven't tried with my VKB gear but no reason it wouldn't work.

Maybe a dumb question but what impact will DLSS have on frame rates?

You should get better frame rates while maintaining or possibly even improving visual quality. DLSS is upscaling where e.g. you can render at 1440p which is less demanding on your GPU but the image gets upscaled to 4k. It's not always going to be quite as good as a native 4k picture but for most practical purposes it's going to be really close. You just need to have a RTX card to be able to use DLSS.

So my question: Can the damage functions be disabled anyhow?

Switching engine damage off should remove any hot starts / wear. Wouldn't be my favourite way for this to be controlled as would prefer an in-plane setting but if you don't like damage simulation at all you can just switch this off in the MSFS settings and should be good to go.

It grabbed the gamers thats all

And it's maybe not the best point for him to make really. Expanding the market to gamers and people who flew combat sims but were drawn in by the visuals has been a huge boon overall. There's fast food for those who just want that and it's probably the best fast food out there. But there's also some high end choices for those who want that. And the prices of the high end items got slashed thanks to the success of the former. This combination is usually holy grail stuff for a flight sim and a place most developers would like to be in.

I'm not knocking XP as it looks like a top class sim and I wish it well but it never grabbed me in the way MSFS did when I saw the previews. XP couldn't really convince me to leave DCS and try something new. MSFS blew my mind when I first saw it and got me hooked into a whole new ecosystem to the point it's where my money is going to be invested for the foreseeable future.

Thinking of buying a Stream Deck! Anybody here use one and was it a pro or con to your flight simming experience?

I got one about a month ago. Use it with Axis and Ohs and profiles you can get on flightsim.to which are quick and easy to setup. I think it's great. Barely have to use my mouse now in flight. Absolutely worth the cost in my opinion.

  7. Don't use it but in the FAQ there's:

Q: I’m using the ThrustMaster Airbus TCA controller and throttle quadrant but can’t map the controls properly
A: MSFS has multiple control binds for throttle controls. For the TCA controller you need to map your controls to ‘Throttle 1 Axis’ & ‘Throttle 2 Axis’.

Maybe your issue could be there?

what is the best yoke for Xbox?

Probably the two best options are either the Turtle Beach Velocity One ($380) or the Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Pack Boeing Edition ($499). Check out some reviews and see which option might suit you better. If you plan to do more general aviation flying maybe the Velocity One would work better. Or if you just want to fly stuff like the 737 maybe the Thrustmaster would be the one to get.

We have (finally) bought this hardware and will be "testing" using it... however, the aircraft is actually quite pitchy, especially at lower speeds.

Thanks - I'll check later to see if the elevator continues to move after I've hit the stop in the virtual cockpit but am still pulling back on my physical yoke. I suspect that it will still move ok and that it's maybe just a yoke animation issue being out of sync with the actual elevator movement.

Anyone knows which function to map. I have tried Primer 1 and 2 without luck.

It's a LVAR - you can see the full list of hardware bindings in the user guide on pages 87-88.

    Primer Switch (L:C310_SW_PRIMER, enum) 0=Left 1=Center 2=Right

If you have Axis and Ohs or SPAD you can map these controls to your hardware. You won't be able to map them to the in game controls I think.

  11. I'm using the Honeycomb Alpha and the length of travel of the elevator doesn't seem to sync up with the length of travel of the yoke in the cockpit. When I've pulled the Alpha back about 2/3 of the way (at most) I've hit the full travel length of the cockpit yoke. Is anybody else getting this too? Just seems a bit weird as in every other plane they sync up I think.

  12. Got the Milviz 310R yesterday and I'm having an issue when trying to add buttons to Stream Deck that reference the Lvars. I'm pretty new to this so probably I'm just missing something and any help would be appreciated.

I can add the standard K: events no problem on the Stream Deck and they work fine with the buttons. I tried to add both a Toggle or On/Off button for a simple on/off windshield de-ice switch for example using write event = L: and took the name from the Lvar list in AAO after I had the Lvars read from the sim. I copied the same format that worked ok for the K: event buttons filling in the send value and the A: info but it doesn't work. The on button just flashes momentarily and the switch doesn't move or make any sound.

Is there some intermediary step that I'm missing? I can add the button for windshield de-ice using the Lvar to my Honeycomb Bravo no problem. Just can't seem to get it to work on the Stream Deck.

Hmm, my DC-6 seems to have developed oil leaks on all 4 engines. 1st flight would have ended in a ditching in the sea. I guess a re-install of the aircraft is in order.

You're right. Delete the module. Download from PMDG and reinstall. I had the same issue with a previous update and that fixed it.

Keep in mind that the user base for MSFS is a lot larger than P3D or FSX -- there are going to be more than a few buyers who haven't used earlier versions.

Exactly. I always flew combat sims like DCS, IL-2, etc. and had no real interest in the likes of X-plane, P3D, etc. Then I saw the visuals and what MSFS was offering and decided to take a jump into a new world. There'll likely be lots more like me.

I feel the prop animation is poor.  The textures ahead of the aircraft are flickering. Surely the prop should be more or less invisible.

I saw that in the previews and thought it looked a bit off. For their Kodiak the prop is more or less invisible in flight and looks great.

Have anyone notice any problems after hitting ESC and then resume flight?

I don't have this plane yet but the DC-6 definitely had this issue. You'd hit ESC for a bit come back and all the engine/oil temps would have shot up. But at least the DC-6 has AP so can just leave it run on it's own if you need to and leave ESC alone.

The Alienware 38 became available on DELL site. I purchased it for 1199$. I have it running now and am quite happy with it.

I have the same one and love it. Couple of things to note:

    • The HDR implementation isn't great as it only has 16 zones and your monitor gets set to searingly bright if it's on. I switched it off on mine
    • The max refresh rate is 144Hz but all reviews say you should leave it at 120Hz for the full 10 bit colour depth and better performance. If you leave it at 144Hz you only get 8 bit colour
    • In settings go to Game -> Response Time and set it to "Fast" for the best all round performance / quality. You could try "Super Fast" as well to see if you like it better. Don't go with "Extreme" as it introduces way too much overshoot
    • The recommended monitor calibration settings are Brightness around 20-30%, Contrast 75%, R (100%), G (100%), B (94%)

Please if you can help me. Is it possible have two commands to one joystick button assignment?

In MSFS at least you can have a single button fire off two commands at the same time e.g. I have the Autopilot and Yaw Damper buttons assigned to the same button on my yoke so when I switch on the AP then YD automatically comes on too. But as pgde noted above you can't have it perform different things at different times i.e. I couldn't use the button on my yoke just to switch on AP but leave YD off.
